Aurora almost blurted it out, but then she remembered her promise to Victor and shook her head.

"Nothing."

Kaelen looked at Aurora’s tired face, his fists clenched, the veins on his hands bulging. A mixture of anger and jealousy churned in his gut, making him feel sick.

Aurora waved her hand and started to walk away. She didn't watch her step, tripped on a small stone, and was about to fall.

Kaelen caught her.

His low voice was laced with overwhelming jealousy. "That tired?"

Aurora steadied herself and pushed Kaelen’s hand away. After thanking him, she nodded wearily.

Anyone would be tired after shaking a bed for half the night. And Victor was still not satisfied, insisting on doing it for three days to prove his manliness. She felt a little desperate.

Her mind filled with sleepiness, Aurora didn't notice the dark storm brewing in the eyes of the man beside her.

After leaving Aurora’s wedding, Kaelen hadn't slept a wink, his mind consumed by memories of their past.

He was supposed to be the one standing by her side, the one she looked at with a smile. Why was it someone else? How could it be someone else?!

Kaelen tore apart his memories, crushed them, and pieced them back together. Only one thought remained—

He loved Aurora.

Before he even realized it, his thoughts and his heart had already accepted this truth.

That's why he could remember every little detail between them, why he felt such panic and pain when she left and no longer loved him.

He was thrilled to discover that he didn't hate this fact.

What had held him back was what others would think of Aurora. He wanted her to be the respected and beloved Enforcer, not to have her reputation tarnished because of him.

Kaelen had always acted accordingly. But when he got what he wanted, and Aurora was about to sacrifice herself for her people, he panicked.

Was he really going to give up Aurora because of what others thought? Was her reputation really worth it?

His heart told him it wasn't.

Aurora was his most precious treasure. Everything else had to make way for her.

Kaelen couldn't wait to find her, to confess his feelings, to tell her that he loved her.

He had deliberately avoided them on their wedding night. But when he came to find her last night, he heard… things.

The love that had been surging through him turned into an indescribable rage.

He had almost burst in, sword in hand, but he was afraid. He was afraid of what he would see, a scene that would drive him mad with hatred.

So, Kaelen had stood outside their door all night, torturing himself.

His eyes were empty, his ears filled with the sounds of their lovemaking, the cold wind chilling him to the bone, shattering his burning heart.

He had stood there stiffly, listening to them until the lights went out in the middle of the night.

If it had just been their wedding night, he could have excused it as them putting on a show. But last night too.

He couldn't find any more excuses.

Kaelen staggered away.

Victor emerged from the room, strolling leisurely, and said with schadenfreude, "Oh, someone's been triggered."

Aurora was in a hurry to eat. "Shut up. You're an old man too."

They were two of a kind. Neither was as young as she was. She was only five hundred years old.

This time at the dining room, her parents were very pleased, putting food on both their plates.

"Going out to have fun again today? You must be tired."

"Eat more, eat more."

After their meal, Aurora and Victor went out.

Suddenly, a man on horseback galloped past them, shouting, "Urgent military message! Clear the way!"

Victor pulled Aurora into his arms, shielding her from the crowded street.

With a whinny, the horse and rider sped past, disappearing down the road in an instant.

Aurora broke free, watching the horse head toward the City Lord's mansion. She exchanged a look with Victor.
