Aurora was confused but didn't show it. She returned to her cave and focused on her cultivation.

A month had passed since her last encounter with the King.

For them, a month was a fleeting moment, a speck of dust in their long lives.

Aurora and Victor maintained a distant yet close relationship. They seemed friendly, but there was always a veil between them, making it impossible to see each other clearly.

But Aurora thought this was the best way to interact. They could talk, but they also had their secrets. They didn't have to worry about the other exploiting their weaknesses, nor did they have to go to great lengths for each other.

The only thing that changed was Kaelen.

Knowing about the entrance in Godfall Chasm and that the ritual ground's wards wouldn't harm him, Kaelen became more and more brazen.

He came here every day, staying for two hours before being pushed out by the wards. It was a daily routine.

Aurora was incredibly annoyed. Kaelen's behavior was disrupting her cultivation.

And to make matters worse, they had no power here. She couldn't even set up a barrier around her cave to keep him out.

Kaelen wasn't bothered by her cold shoulder. He would silently endure her sarcastic remarks and then come back the next day as usual.

If Aurora got really angry, he would go off by himself for a while and come back when he had calmed down.

This went on for another month. There were only three months left until the King fully unleashed the Crimson Curse.

Aurora felt that she was on the verge of understanding her path, separated by only a thin barrier. She could feel the immense power on the other side, but she couldn't grasp it.

Three days later, at dawn, a crisp sound echoed through the caves.

Aurora’s heart surged. She had finally broken through!

She felt a powerful energy filling her body and finally allowed herself a small smile.

Suddenly, Aurora froze. If completing the ritual allowed one to control power here, then didn't that mean Victor had power too?

After all these days, Aurora had a basic understanding of Victor. He wasn't a bad person, just a bit mischievous and fond of teasing people. His past was a mystery, and his movements were unpredictable.

She couldn't figure him out, but she knew he was not simple. For someone like him to have stayed here for so many years, it was impossible that he hadn't made a breakthrough.

If he had power but had never used it against her or Kaelen, pretending to be powerless, was he just playing with them like a cat with a mouse?

But beyond that, Aurora didn't believe he had no other motives.

For someone with Victor’s personality, such a long-term act couldn't just be for fun.

Aurora got up to find Victor.

The person she was looking for was already standing at the entrance, smiling at her as if he knew nothing.

"Congratulations on your breakthrough. How does it feel to have your power back?"

Aurora studied him carefully, finding no flaws in his act. "Don't you have anything to say?"

Victor looked at her innocently. "Say what?"

Aurora raised her sword. She was going to test his strength. "How about a little spar?"

Victor raised his hands in surrender. "Alright, alright, I'll talk."

"I was just having fun. I didn't mean to deceive you."

Aurora didn't lower her sword.

Victor’s smile faded, replaced by a look of helplessness and resignation.

"It's here."

"What?"

Victor looked at the sky and whispered, "Our trial."

In an instant, the world changed.

The sky tore open, and a rift sucked the two of them in.

And Kaelen, who had just arrived, watched in horror as it all happened. Aurora had vanished before his eyes once again.
