When the Moon No Longer Answers the Wolf Chapter 23

Three months later, the City Lord's mansion was decorated with lanterns and red silk.

The city was abuzz with talk.

"I can't believe the City Lord's daughter, Aurora, is marrying a poor pretty boy."

"What other choice did she have? No powerful family would want her with that reputation."

Regardless of what others thought, Aurora was quite satisfied. She had relieved her parents' pressure, and she didn't have to pretend with Victor. They both knew it was fake.

In the main hall of the mansion, her parents sat on the main seats, smiling as they accepted the couple's bows.

"The couple will now bow to each other!"

Following the emcee's instruction, Aurora and Victor turned to face each other and bowed.

"I object!"

Hearing the voice, Aurora instinctively looked up. A strong hand gently pressed her head down, completing the ceremony amidst the chaos.

Kaelen pushed aside the people blocking him and stood in front of Aurora and Victor, blocking their path.

There had been trouble in the wolf world, and he had gone back to deal with it. When he rushed back, he found out that Aurora and Victor were getting married.

A year in the human world was a day in the wolf world. He had been gone for a few hours, and now this?

Kaelen didn't know what they were up to, but whatever the reason, Aurora should not be marrying Victor.

The crowd murmured, everyone loving a good love triangle.

"Who is this? He looks unfamiliar."

"Never seen him before, but he's here to stop the wedding. There must be a story."

Aurora stood quietly, not lifting her veil. "I don't know him."

Her parents testified, "Our Aurora has been busy preparing for her wedding. She has never met this man."

"What are you waiting for? Get this man who's ruining the wedding out of here!"

Kaelen stared at Aurora, his throat tight, his voice strained. "Do you want me to leave too?"

She took Victor’s hand. "What are you talking about? I don't understand."

Kaelen looked at the menacing guards and then at the closely-knit couple. The light in his eyes died out completely.

He didn't press the issue and turned to leave.

The wedding concluded smoothly. After taking off her headdress, Aurora collapsed onto the bed, muttering, "I've never been this tired, not even when I was killing rogue wolves."

They both washed up and went to sleep without a word.

The next morning, they went to the dining room early.

Aurora was so hungry she could feel her stomach touching her back. Before she even entered, she heard whispers from inside.

"I told you a pretty boy was no good. You said he was handsome. You can't eat handsome."

Her mother nervously patted her father. "Don't say that. Maybe the kids just weren't ready. Don't talk nonsense, what if they hear you?"

Aurora peeked in. Victor’s usually smiling face was as dark as the bottom of a pot. She couldn't help but chuckle.

That night, Aurora looked at Victor awkwardly.

"Do we really have to do this?"

Victor was calm, his gaze righteous.

"Of course. Otherwise, where would my dignity be?"

Aurora couldn't argue. She sighed. "Alright."

She went to the bed first, placed her hands on the headboard, and started shaking it vigorously.

Victor joined her on the other side, shaking and reminding her, "Don't tell anyone."

"If everyone knows I have to fake this, what will happen to my reputation?"

Aurora didn't understand him. Men were always so strange about these things. It was a small matter, and she readily agreed.

The next day.

Aurora got up with dark circles under her eyes. She opened the door to see Kaelen standing outside, his eyes bloodshot.

"What were you two doing last night?"
