Victor, who had been watching Aurora closely, quickly pushed her to the ground. The arrow grazed his cheek and embedded itself in the wall, its feathered tail trembling with a hum.

After making sure he was alright, Aurora immediately got up and went to the arrow.

Following the direction it came from, she saw a familiar figure moving in the center of the Northern army.

But it was too far away, and she was now a mortal with no power to enhance her vision. She couldn't see who it was.

Aurora pulled out the arrow and examined it carefully. A small detail caught her attention.

"Dad, have someone bring over a few bodies from the Northern army."

Her father waved his hand and ordered someone to do it, adding, "You can't desecrate the bodies. That's a military order."

Aurora didn't speak. Although she had no intention of doing so, the Northern army had long ignored the rules of war, torturing prisoners and slaughtering civilians. They had done it all.

They were a pack of inhuman beasts. If the world fell into their hands, it would be a living hell.

In a chaotic world, it was always the perpetrators who thrived, while the true victims clung to the rules.

Aurora looked at her father seriously. "Dad, don't worry. I will protect you, and I will defend this city."

Before her father could react, Aurora had taken the bodies and walked away quickly. She needed to confirm something.

Victor followed her.

Aurora took a small sample of flesh and blood from the still-warm body and examined it carefully.

Victor leaned over. "What did you find?"

"Look at their blood."

Victor looked closely, a look of surprise in his eyes. "This is..."

Aurora put the sample away. "I thought their excitement was due to the Northern wolf army's natural bloodlust. But what if they are also being controlled?"

"They've conquered city after city without much rest, yet they're still so energetic, almost frenzied. It's too abnormal."

"It wasn't until I saw that arrow that I was finally sure of something."

As they were discussing, the door was pushed open.

Kaelen entered and saw their heads close together. A flicker of anger crossed his eyes, which he quickly suppressed.

"I went back to the wolf world. I'm sorry I wasn't here with you."

Aurora didn't look at him. "It's not necessary. You should go back, Kaelen."

"Aren't you going to ask me what I did there?"

Aurora didn't stop what she was doing, nor did she pay any attention to his words.

"Kaelen, I'm busy."

The implication was clear: don't bother me.

Kaelen stood next to Aurora. "Whether you need me or not, I'm here."

Aurora ignored him and continued to discuss the war with Victor.

A look of hurt crossed Kaelen's eyes, but he remained steadfastly by her side, though no one paid him any attention.

At night, the sky suddenly lit up with fireworks.

Aurora was startled awake by the sound. She threw off her blanket and got out of bed. She had been sleeping in her clothes for the past few days for convenience.

The fireworks exploded one after another. It was an enemy attack!

And it was happening in multiple places, all needing support.

Aurora rushed to the nearest location. What she saw made her pupils shrink.

Besides the Northern army, there were snakes!

They swarmed like a tide, slithering and writhing on the ground, their intertwined bodies casting grotesque, dark shadows in the firelight.

Soldiers screamed as they were entangled, bitten, and choked to death.

The dark night hid all evil, leaving only the sound of agony echoing through the sky.

Aurora looked up and saw Seraphina’s familiar face smiling triumphantly at her from the enemy lines.
