When the Moon No Longer Answers the Wolf Chapter 32
Victor appeared behind Aurora, watching the chaotic scene with her.
Aurora looked at the frenzied crowd and sensed that something was wrong. She tried to move to save her parents, but she couldn't.
She had been here for almost two years, and this was the first time she clearly felt the world's will guiding her.
The people, as if consumed by rage, surged forward after someone shouted, "Get them!"
Aurora watched with wide eyes as a mob of what looked like demons swarmed her parents, countless hands reaching for them.
To support the war effort, the City Lord's mansion had very few guards left. Most had been sent to the battlefield, leaving only a few powerless servants.
With no resistance, her parents were tied to the stake.
Aurora struggled against the invisible bonds, but it was useless. She could only watch in horror as they were hoisted up and the torches were lit...
Tears streamed down her face. She hadn't known them for long. Compared to a werewolf's long life, it was just a fleeting moment.
Why did it hurt so much?
Victor sighed and used a handkerchief to wipe her tears.
"Don't try. It's useless."
"I'm not bound, which means the world's will is only targeting your desire to save them. You should know that their fate was to die in this war. Even we can't change that."
"You should focus on the battlefield now. That's what matters."
Controlled by the force, Aurora turned and walked back toward the battlefield.
Before her was the battlefield where she fought to protect the people. Behind her were her parents, being killed by those very people.
Without Seraphina’s control, the Northern army was like a pack of lost, sick wolves. Her poison spread through their bodies, and no one could control them. These terminally ill soldiers were sometimes weak, sometimes crazed.
They took up their swords and killed each other.
Without a doubt, even if the Greystone City army just watched, they would all die, either at the hands of their own people or by the poison that would make them explode. The scene was incredibly bloody.
The Greystone City army watched from a distance, muttering, "This is divine retribution. They've committed so many sins. Heaven will punish them."
"And that witch, she's dead too. They deserve it!"
"We won! We won!"
Victor stood by Aurora. "It's all over."
Aurora stared at the battlefield. After this, she was no longer restricted.
But it was too late. Her parents' death was a predetermined outcome by the world's will.
"What did you do to Seraphina? Why was she so badly injured?"
"Nothing much. I just added something when she was poisoning the Northern army. She suffered a backlash, that's all."
"What did you add?"
"Guess. If you're right, I'll tell you."
Aurora suddenly noticed that Victor’s body was fading, gradually disappearing. She felt a surge of panic and cautiously touched his hand.
"What's happening to your body?"
Victor’s already translucent face smiled nonchalantly. "Breaking the rules has its consequences. I failed the trial again."
"Aurora, you have to compensate me."
As Victor disappeared, a soldier's report reached her ears.
"Report!"
"Aurora, a message from the mansion. The City Lord and his wife... were tied to the stake. They're gone."
"Please accept my condolences."
Aurora stood motionless. She had lost everything to defend a city.
She suddenly laughed. Was this the path of the ritual?
What a path.
Aurora looked at the clearing sky and the golden light pouring down. Without looking back, she walked into the light.
The trial was over.
