When the Moon No Longer Answers the Wolf Chapter 35

4 min 3 views

Victor’s remaining soul was sucked in.

The images before her dissipated, and Aurora came back to her senses.

*Victor, why did you go to such lengths to open the Crimson Curse?*

With no time to spare, Aurora plunged a dagger she had prepared into her chest and took out her heart's blood.

With blood as the guide and her body as the sacrifice, she exhausted all her power to reseal the Crimson Curse.

After everything was done, Aurora let herself fall from the sky.

Extreme exhaustion was followed by a wave of weariness that swept over her. She wished she could just lie there and keep falling.

*Victor, were you this relieved when you died?*

A sigh echoed in her ears, and someone caught her falling body.

...

Three hundred years later, Blackwood Manor.

Kaelen was reading a book when he heard a movement from the bed. He threw the book aside and rushed over, his face full of joy.

"You're awake? I calculated the days. It should be around this time."

Aurora got up and walked outside. The servants of the manor treated her just as they had before, making her feel as if she had gone back in time, to a time when there was no rift between her and Kaelen.

"How long was I asleep?"

Kaelen caught up to her and draped a cloak over her shoulders. "Three hundred years."

Aurora didn't stop. Kaelen grabbed her arm. "Where are you going?"

"Kaelen, you shouldn't control me."

Kaelen didn't let go, his grip tightening. "Why can't I?"

"After you were injured, I wished for you to wake up every day. Now that you're awake, I wish you would just stay in my manor."

"Aurora, I was so scared. I was afraid you would close your eyes and never wake up again. I searched everywhere for gods and remedies, hoping to find a sliver of hope for you."

"Can't you... not treat me like this, not be so cold?"

Aurora paused. "If you need anything in the future, just ask. I will do anything for you."

"Now, I have to go."

Time seemed to stand still. Kaelen struggled to speak. "Who are you going to find?"

Aurora broke free from his grasp. "Kaelen, let's part on good terms. Don't let things get to an irreconcilable point. You wouldn't want us to end up like you and Seraphina, would you?"

Seraphina? She was comparing him to Seraphina? How could Seraphina ever compare to what they had?

Kaelen, as if drained of all strength, dropped his hand and turned away, waving.

"Go then. Be careful not to let anyone bully you."

"Thank you, Kaelen."

Kaelen went to the highest floor of the manor and watched as Aurora walked out of his territory, out of his sight.

These three hundred years had been their last time together.

From now on, Blackwood Manor would have no mistress.

...

The human world.

Aurora had intended to come alone, but her servant, worried about her recent awakening, insisted on coming with her.

The two of them were now standing in front of an art gallery, watching a young, pitiful-looking artist being harassed.

The servant was stunned.

"Enforcer, that's the reincarnation of the Shadowfang King, that great villain."

Aurora was unfazed.

"Since he's been reincarnated, he's no longer the King. The grievances of the past have nothing to do with him."

"The King was the King, Victor is Victor. The King is dead. From now on, there is only Victor."

When Victor’s soul entered the Crimson Curse, he should have been torn to shreds by the spatial turbulence and never reincarnated. She had used all her power to guide him into the cycle of rebirth.

For others, reincarnation was a natural process. But Victor had walked alone for thousands of years to finally get it.

Aurora walked over, her voice clear and strong. "I'll take all your paintings."

Victor had just dealt with a difficult customer when he turned to see a beautiful woman with a hint of heroic spirit walking toward him. She looked somewhat familiar.

"Why?"

Aurora stood before him, openly admiring him.

"No reason. I just can't stand to see a beautiful person being bullied."

Victor was taken aback, then a slow smile spread across his face, his eyes full of charm.

"Then thank you, Miss. May I ask if you have a beloved partner?"

"No. I think you'll do."

—The End.
