The Choice Chapter 14
She laughed triumphantly, powder falling from her face, revealing freckles underneath.
"Nobody grab it—give me the disinfectant, or we're not going anywhere!"
Kevin Wright, driving up front, spotted them fighting over my backpack through the rearview mirror.
He simply stopped the car.
Derek, no longer focused on me, reached back and started grappling with Sarah.
"RAWR! RAWR!"
Outside, zombies were multiplying, but these people acted like they didn't care.
Two options appeared before my eyes again:
A. Exit vehicle
B. Wait
The car finally quieted. I immediately checked both options.
First, option A. I was never one to wait for death—I felt A was more reliable.
I saw myself pull open the right door, roll into the roadside bushes. The car instantly went quiet.
Each person showed a different expression: Kevin looked shocked; Derek sneered viciously.
Sarah looked confused. Only Tyler also made a move to exit.
Then during the struggle, Kevin accidentally hit the gas, and the van crashed into a storefront wall.
It happened to be next to a hot pot restaurant full of propane tanks.
BOOM—the zombies were incinerated in the explosion.
Seeing this, my heart pounded.
No wonder there'd been no warning when that guy attacked earlier, but suddenly there was one.
It was waiting for me here.
That patch of grass was the only safe zone.
I steadied my breathing, selected my choice, and executed the jump in one smooth motion.
