The Choice Chapter 21
The arrowheads reeked of disinfectant—much stronger than mine. Clearly they'd been soaked in it.
"We detected multiple life signs here. How come you're the only one?"
A commanding officer looked at me questioningly.
I shook my head, but thinking of where the punk appeared, could there be a shelter underground?
"Maybe there—I saw someone come out from there earlier!"
I pointed to where the punk had emerged and jogged over with the soldiers.
"Anyone there? We're the rescue team! If you're there, respond!"
The officer shouted down. After a while, the noise below gradually increased.
"It really is the military! The military came to save us! Let's go!"
"Everyone come out! We're saved!"
"Quick, quick! Finally we can leave!"
These people hiding below emerged one by one, tears in their eyes. They'd known eventually someone would come.
They just hadn't expected to wait this long.
Over a thousand people—men, women, elderly, children, all types.
"Everyone, listen up! We're too many for one helicopter! So elderly, sick, and children first!"
The officer waved his hands for quiet and started giving orders.
"No way! Why? This place is surrounded by zombies. What if—everyone, right?"
Just as the officer finished, a gaunt, professionally dressed woman stepped out from the crowd.
I had to admit, when facing death, human nature really couldn't withstand the test.
This woman's provocative words immediately stirred up others' emotions. Everyone started agreeing.
