The Choice Chapter 22
"Yeah, why? Kids going is understandable, but why the old, sick, and disabled? They're useless!"
"Exactly! They should give up their spots to us young people!"
"We should go first, or nobody goes!"
With that woman leading, everyone started making trouble.
They desperately pushed forward. Many children got shoved down.
"Everyone quiet! QUIET!"
The officer had no choice but to fire his gun.
"Either elderly, sick, and children first, or nobody goes!"
After everyone quieted down, the officer's expression turned cold, his voice involuntarily louder.
He saw the professional woman about to say more and glared her down directly.
Then he began organizing orderly evacuation.
"Whir whir whir—"
As the propellers spun, many people watched the helicopter depart into the distance.
Some looked relieved. Others looked less than willing.
The latter were mostly those who'd been shouting loudest.
As the helicopter made trips back and forth, people rapidly decreased. Now less than half remained.
Soon it was the professional woman's turn. As she boarded, she deliberately stepped on the officer's foot.
This behavior immediately angered the soldiers present. They pulled her back down.
"The military's abusing their power! Everyone look!"
The woman transformed into a shrew, literally lying on the ground.
Her tantrum disrupted the previously orderly evacuation.
Most critically, the evacuation batches were too large, and rescue operations were happening throughout the city.
