Luna. Chapter 141

(Lyra's POV)

The Alliance Council meeting was set for three o'clock at the neutral ground conference center in Silver Ridge. I'd been looking forward to finally addressing the growing Ashwalker threat with a united supernatural front.

But when Magnus wheeled me into the conference room, only two people were waiting.

Kael sat at the far end of the long table, his expression carefully neutral. Beside him, General Cassius wore the satisfied smile of a man who'd successfully orchestrated a political ambush.

"Where is everyone else?" I asked, though I already suspected the answer.

"Alpha Greyson sends his regrets," General Cassius said politely. "As do Alphas Morrison, Blackthorne, and Richardson. It seems they've been called away on urgent Council business."

"Called away by whom?"

"By royal decree. His Majesty felt it important to discuss certain concerns about recent unauthorized activities in various territories."

Magnus pushed my wheelchair closer to the table. "You mean you threatened them."

"I mean we reminded them of their obligations to maintain stability and order within the supernatural community."

"And those obligations don't include protecting children from torture?"

"Those obligations include respecting chain of command and proper authority."

I looked around the nearly empty conference room, feeling the weight of complete political isolation. The other Alphas weren't just absent—they'd been actively prevented from attending.

"So this isn't a Council meeting," I said. "This is an intervention."

"This is an opportunity for reasonable discussion between concerned parties," General Cassius replied.

"Reasonable discussion?" I couldn't keep the anger out of my voice. "You attacked me in my own pack house. You're holding children in underground laboratories. You're threatening my family."

"We're managing dangerous situations before they spiral out of control."

"By torturing children?"

"By studying supernatural abilities that could threaten the stability of our entire society."

Kael spoke up for the first time. "General, what you're describing is systematic child abuse."

"What I'm describing is necessary research into potentially catastrophic power levels."

"Research that involves kidnapping, imprisonment, and experimentation on minors."

"Research that prevents another supernatural war."

"By creating the conditions for one?"

General Cassius leaned back in his chair, clearly enjoying the confrontation. "Alpha Blackwood, you seem to be under the impression that this is a negotiation. It isn't."

"Then what is it?"

"It's an ultimatum."

The word hung in the air like a threat. I felt the baby move restlessly, as if responding to my elevated stress levels.

"What kind of ultimatum?" I asked.

"Simple. You cease all activities related to the royal research programs. You discontinue your investigation into estate operations. You accept Council oversight of your pregnancy and submit to regular evaluations of your developing abilities."

"And if I refuse?"

"Then your pack faces immediate investigation for harboring terrorist activities. Your mate faces charges of conspiracy against the Crown. And your children face protective custody for their own safety."

"Protective custody meaning imprisonment."

"Protective custody meaning appropriate supervision until they demonstrate the ability to control their dangerous abilities."

I felt rage building in my chest, the kind of anger that made my supernatural powers flare dangerously.

"You're threatening to kidnap my children."

"We're offering to prevent them from becoming threats to innocent people."

"They're three years old and unborn. They're not threats to anyone."

"Yet."

The single word carried the weight of everything I'd been fighting against. The assumption that supernatural children were guilty until proven innocent. The belief that extraordinary abilities automatically made someone dangerous.

"General," Magnus said quietly, "you're making a serious mistake."

"Am I?"

"You're underestimating the response this will generate. Other packs, other supernatural communities, international oversight organizations."

"Other packs will follow royal decree once they understand the consequences of opposition. International organizations have no jurisdiction here. And oversight committees can be... influenced."

I stared at him, understanding for the first time the full scope of what we were fighting against. This wasn't just about my family or even the children being held at the royal estate.

This was about whether the supernatural community would be governed by law and justice or by fear and authoritarian control.

"You're planning to rule through intimidation," I said.

"We're planning to maintain order through strength and clear hierarchies."

"The same way you've maintained order by experimenting on children?"

"The same way we've prevented supernatural abilities from destroying human civilization."

"By becoming the very threat you claim to be preventing?"

General Cassius stood up, clearly done with the conversation. "You have twenty-four hours to decide, Luna Lyra. Compliance or consequences."

"And if I choose consequences?"

"Then you'll discover exactly how far we're willing to go to protect our society from dangerous individuals."

As he left the conference room, I felt the full weight of our isolation. The other Alphas had been silenced. The Council had been compromised. Our legal protections had been systematically dismantled.

We were on our own.

"What are you thinking?" Kael asked quietly.

"I'm thinking that we just declared war on the most powerful supernatural authority in North America."

"Are you okay with that?"

"I'm terrified of that. But I'm more terrified of what happens if we don't fight."

Magnus moved my wheelchair toward the exit. "Then we better make sure we win."

As we left the conference center, I felt the baby move again—stronger this time, like a reminder of what we were fighting for.

In five months, I would give birth to a child who could change everything. The question was whether there would be a world left worth changing.
