(Lyra's POV)

We couldn't get enough of each other.

After months of separation, months of longing and missing and wondering if we'd ever find our way back together, we were desperate to reconnect.

"Again," Kael whispered against my neck.

"Again," I agreed, already reaching for him.

This time was different. Less desperate, more intense. Like we had all the time in the world to rediscover each other.

Kael worshipped my body like he was trying to memorize every change, every new curve, every place that was different since Nova's birth.

"You're so responsive," he said, making me arch beneath him.

"I've been touch-starved for months. Of course I'm responsive."

"Touch-starved?"

"I haven't been with anyone since you. Magnus never tried, and I never wanted anyone but you."

"Good." The possessiveness in his voice made heat curl low in my belly. "I never want you to need anyone but me."

"Jealous?"

"Completely. Irrationally. Desperately jealous."

His hands were everywhere, claiming me, reminding my body who it belonged to.

"I'm yours," I whispered.

"Say it again."

"I'm yours, Kael. Only yours."

"And I'm yours. Forever yours."

"Even when I'm difficult?"

"Especially when you're difficult."

He made me feel beautiful. Desired. Loved in a way that went deeper than just physical attraction.

"I love your possessiveness," I admitted.

"Do you?"

"It makes me feel wanted. Like you can't stand the thought of sharing me."

"I can't. The idea of another man touching you, holding you, seeing you like this..." His grip tightened on my hips. "It drives me insane."

"What about you? Did you... while I was gone?"

"No. Never. I couldn't even think about another woman."

"Not even when you were angry at me?"

"Especially not when I was angry at you. You ruined me for everyone else."

The way he said it, like being ruined for other women was the best thing that had ever happened to him, made my heart flutter.

"Good," I said, pulling him down for a kiss. "Stay ruined."

"Gladly."

When we came together this time, it was with complete trust. Complete surrender. No walls, no guards, no fear of being hurt.

"You feel so good," Kael said, his voice rough with emotion. "So perfect."

"So do you. Like you were made for me."

"I was made for you. Everything about me was designed to make you happy."

"Everything?"

"Everything."

He proved it with his body, taking me higher than I'd ever been before. Making me cry out his name like a prayer.

"That's it, love. Let go for me."

"I can't. It's too much."

"Yes, you can. Trust me."

"I do trust you."

"Then let go."

When I finally did, the intensity of it left me shaking in his arms. Completely undone and utterly satisfied.

"Beautiful," Kael whispered, kissing my temple. "You're so beautiful when you let go."

"I've never... it's never been like that before."

"Like what?"

"So intense. So overwhelming."

"Good overwhelming or bad overwhelming?"

"The best overwhelming."

Kael gathered me closer, our bodies still connected, both of us breathing hard.

"I want to stay like this forever," he said.

"Eventually we'll have to check on the kids."

"Eventually. Not yet."

"Not yet," I agreed, snuggling deeper into his embrace.

"Lyra?"

"Mm?"

"Are you happy? Being back here, being with me, are you actually happy?"

I lifted my head to look at him. "Why would you ask that?"

"Because I keep waiting for you to realize you were better off without me. That you had a good life with Magnus's pack, and coming back here was a mistake."

"Do you want me to think that?"

"God, no. But I want you to be honest with me. If this isn't what you want, if being back here doesn't make you happy..."

"Kael." I placed my hand on his cheek, making him look at me. "I've never been happier than I am right now. In this bed, with you, knowing our children are safe and loved and wanted."

"Really?"

"Really. Magnus gave me security and protection when I needed it. But he never gave me this."

"What's this?"

"Home. Love. The feeling that I'm exactly where I belong."

"You are where you belong. You belong with me."

"I know. It just took us a while to find our way back to each other."

"Worth the journey?"

"Worth every painful step."

Nova's cry came through the baby monitor we'd set up in my old room, and we both sighed.

"Feeding time," I said.

"She has perfect timing."

"She's probably hungry and wondering why she's in a strange room."

I started to sit up, but Kael pulled me back down.

"Five more minutes," he said. "She's not screaming yet. Just fussing."

"You want me to let our daughter cry so we can cuddle?"

"I want five more minutes of having you all to myself. Is that terrible?"

"A little terrible. But also sweet."

Nova's fussing escalated to actual crying, and I couldn't ignore it anymore.

"Now I have to go to her."

"I know. But tonight, after the kids are in bed..."

"Tonight?"

"Tonight, I'm going to make love to you until you forget there was ever a time when we weren't together."

"Promise?"

"Promise."

I kissed him quickly and climbed out of bed, grabbing my clothes.

"Lyra?"

"Yeah?"

"Thank you."

"For what?"

"For coming home. For giving us another chance. For making me feel complete again."

"Thank you for not giving up on us."

"Never. I'll never give up on us."

I blew him a kiss and went to take care of our daughter, feeling more content and hopeful than I had in months.

We were going to make this work. We were going to be happy.
