Luna. Chapter 156

Lyra's POV

The twins left the next morning. Watching them pack their bags felt like losing pieces of my heart.

"You don't have to do this," I told them for the hundredth time.

"Yes, we do," Elena said. "You and Dad need people you can trust."

"And we're the only ones who can move between the packs without raising suspicion," Dmitri added.

They were right. As young adults, they could travel freely without anyone thinking twice about it.

"Asher made you something," I said, handing Elena a small package.

She unwrapped it carefully. Inside was a watch that looked ordinary enough, but I knew better.

"What does it do?" she asked.

"It tracks your location," Asher said, bouncing on his toes with excitement. "And it has a panic button. If you're in trouble, you press it three times and it sends an alert to Mom's watch."

Dmitri looked impressed. "How did you figure out how to make something like that?"

Asher shrugged. "I just did."

Sometimes my youngest son's abilities amazed me. And scared me a little.

"There's one for each of you," I said, giving Dmitri his watch. "Promise me you'll wear them."

"We promise," they said in unison.

"And promise me you'll be careful. No unnecessary risks."

"We'll be careful, Mom."

"And call every day."

"We'll call every day."

"And if anything feels wrong, anything at all, you get out of there immediately."

"Mom," Elena said gently. "We know what we're doing."

"I know you do. But you're still my babies."

Dmitri laughed. "We're hardly babies anymore."

"You'll always be my babies."

They hugged me goodbye, and I tried not to cry. They needed to see me being strong.

After they left, the house felt too quiet. Too empty.

"It's just us now," I said to Asher.

"And the baby," he said, pointing at my belly.

"And the baby."

"When's she going to be born?"

"Not for a few more months."

"I can't wait to meet her."

"She can't wait to meet you either."

We spent the rest of the day setting up our communication schedule. Cordelia would call at noon and eight PM. The twins would check in at six PM. And hopefully, we'd hear from Kael within the next day or two.

All we could do now was wait.
