Our Luna, Our Mate Chapter 146
*Author's Note: Hey everyone, I know I was aiming for November to be the final month for Our Luna, Our Mate, but between work and the holidays things had gotten a tad crazy for me, so I wasn't able to completely finish the book. So, just a heads-up, I plan to post the last 15 or so chapters this month and then this book will finally be completed. Also, just a quick note, one that I need to address now before I forget, but it was brought to my attention about the order in which Athena's children will rule over the packs once they become old enough to do so, and I just want to apologize for the confusion, but this is the correct order moving forward, Adrian (Mystic Shadow Pack) Ryder (Blood Rose) and Nathan (Silver Moon). Samara will still become Luna of the Dark Moon Pack and baby No. 5, who shall not be named yet, will go on to be Luna of the Snow Moon Pack. With that said, please enjoy Chapter 146. Thanks.*
**Eros's POV**
When the sound of warning bells had gone off do I instantly jump into action. Having been over at the pack house with Kai, Seth, and Sam along with Lucas, Emma and Emily, each of us were trying to hash out different plans to locate Ares alongside Rick, Alex, Kade and of course, my father. Each of them attempting to help where they could.
Rosalyn having returned from her Coven of Witches only to discover it empty. Those still alive were either dead or gone, along with the Rogues who were keeping tabs on them. Almost as if they had been planning that for a while.
"Fuck" I roared, appearing just outside the pack house. My eyes taking in the sight before us.
Rogues. Hundreds of Rogues now swarming our home while three of them suddenly turn and run in the opposite direction of the others. Almost as if they were hoping that the Rogues were enough to distract us from their true purpose.
'ATHENA AND THE CHILDREN' cries Deimos, having seen the three wolves as well.
Damn it, could things get any more complicated than it already was?
Knowing what we had to do, Deimos was quick to take over, our clothes shredding on site as we moved to follow the wolves who were heading in the direction of our home, only to be blocked by a group of Rogues. Their teeth bare as they growled.
MOVE IT, I roar within my mind, my own teeth bare as Deimos and I growl. Kai and the others soon joining among the forces.
'Kill those who attack us' I command among my warriors, not one to play games at the moment as I move to barrel through the Rogues, the need to follow the three who ran from the group rising, knowing that Athena and our children could very well be in danger.
'Hurry' whispers Deimos, only to yelp when something heavy lands on top of me. My body twisting to get free of whatever it was that was on top of us just as something bites into my left shoulder blade, drawing another yelp to fall upon my lips.
Howling in pain, I try again to shake the mass, only to reach behind me and sink my own teeth into the back legs of a wolf. A yelp and howl later they finally let us go, allowing me to see that it was a Rogue. And not just any Rogue either, a feral one at that. Their eyes red which was a clear indicator that they were no longer of sound mind or sound body.
Son of bitch, I groan, not in the mood to be dealing with feral wolves even as the wolf in question attacks me. Deimos and I on the defense. Our jaw eventually finding its way around the wolf's neck before chomping down. Instantly killing it as we rip out its throat.
Pulling away, I moved to look for Kai among the wave of wolves attacking.
'Don't kill the innocent. Look for those with the red eyes. Their feral and can't be saved' I ordered, hoping to prevent unnecessary bloodshed if I could.
'Got it' was all I heard as I turned back towards the task at hand. Athena as well as my children.
Hang on Athena, I murmur, more to myself than to Deimos, worry filling my chest at the thought of losing Athena as well, hoping that I arrive before it's too late.
NO, we can't afford to think like that, I say to myself. Knowing it was true and that we couldn't afford to think negatively, especially if we wanted to save Ares along with our mate.
Racing towards the house, I slowly began to feel dread. Dread rising at the sight of a broken window as the house begins to come into focus, an eerie silence filling the air the closer we had gotten.
'I don't like this' murmurs Deimos. The scent of the three wolves along with our mate lingers within the air as a sense of uneasiness settles around us upon reaching the house.
'Neither do I pal, but hopefully whoever it was, was too stupid to follow through with their attack' I say, a part of me hoping that it was true and that Athena would be inside waiting for us.
Sniffing the air, I attempt to make sure the house was clear of any other intruders before I slowly moved to nudge the door open with my nose, freezing upon sight. The whole lower level is just about trashed. As if bodies were thrown around multiple times as vases lay broken alongside windows, furniture tipped over on their axes as if slammed into them, even pictures had been knocked off walls as well.
Sniffing again, I suddenly smell blood. The coppery scent strong. Following the scent, I soon realize that the blood I was smelling belonged to that of Athena. Her blood radiating pureness along with a subtle hint of her scent. The same scent that Ares and I had come to love when we were around her.
'Athena?' I called through the mindlink, careful around the broken glass as we walked. Our paws carefully moving throughout the house as we search for our mate.
'Athena?'
Worried about our mate, we slowly began to head upstairs once I deemed the lower part safe. The wolves who attacked gone. A part of me hoping that Athena had gone upstairs to check on the children after the attack.
Leaping along the stairs, two at a time, I slowly approach the second floor of the house. Athena's scent the strongest here as I attempt to follow it, the scent leading me to the triplets' room. Fear slowly gripping at my chest at the thought of something happening to our children. Nudging the door open, I carefully embraced what I was about to see, only to pause. The room clean, no furniture or anything skewed around like it was downstairs, which meant either the fight happened only downstairs or Athena prevented them from ever reaching the upstairs area.
'Athena?' I try again, only to whine when I still don't get an answer from her. Her absence hitting me only to pause when I hear the sound of whimpering coming from the closet within the room.
Curious, Deimos and I slowly move to approach the closet door, only to now realize that we were still in wolf form. Naked at most, which prompts us to retreat, but only long enough for us to race further upstairs and to our room before throwing on a pair of sweats once Deimos allowed me to shift back.
Once presentable, I move to head back downstairs and back towards the triplets room, my feet leading me just outside the closet door. My hand shaking as I slowly move to reach for the door, only to pause. The sight of my frightened children all huddled on the floor of the closet is a gut rerenching sight once I open the door.
"Adrian?" I called to him slowly, careful not to frighten them further, his brown eyes slowly moving to find mine.
"Papa? Mommy... Mommy's gone" cries Adrian, my blood running cold at the thought of Athena being taken as well.
"Are you sure son?"
"Yes. We heard it all the way up here. The howling, the fighting, the growling. Items being smashed or knocked over. We heard it all, even while Mommy howled and whined in pain. Yet all I could do was sit there and protect my brothers and sister like Mommy asked me to do."
"Oh Adrian, sweetheart. You did such a good job at it too. Your mother would be so proud of you. Your father too. Because I know I am," I admitted to him softly. My bare arms carefully pulling the four of them into my half-naked body, a purr of comfort rising from deep within Deimos as we try to sooth our children.
A howl eventually emanating into the air as I attempt to signal to the others that I had been too late in arriving and Athena was now gone too.
Distant howls following my own, howls letting me know that the Rogues had all escaped. Rage beginning to bubble within me at the thought of whom those three wolves were and what they could have possibly wanted with our mate.
