The Alpha King's Mistress Chapter 114: POV's
Another, sharper slap sent tears streaming down my face.
"I did everything for you, Samantha! I gave you everything, and this is how you repay me? By throwing away your future?"
"What future, Mom?" I cried. "There was no future the moment he found his mate! There was no future the moment I betrayed him."
"Don't you grasp the situation? His mate couldn't be Luna—she was branded a criminal as a spy!"
A bitter laugh escaped my lips. How utterly hypocritical I was. While I'd harbored the desire for Florence's demise, learning she was both Nicholas' mate and, to my immense shame, my stepsister, flipped my world upside down. I'd known of a stepsibling, but Florence never crossed my mind.
"Aren't you ashamed of yourself, Mom?"
"What is there to be ashamed of?"
"You abandoned your own child,"
My mother shook her head dismissively, "We've already discussed this. She is not my child. Forget everything and just accept—"
My voice trembled as I interrupted, "You're to blame for Dad's death!"
Her eyes widened in shock. "What... what did you just say?" she stammered.
"You vanished for twelve years, then reappeared as if nothing had happened," I continued, wiping angry tears from my face. "We welcomed you back, and I overheard you confessing to Dad one night about leaving your child behind. I didn't know the father's identity, but a month later, Dad left the pack. When I pressed him for a reason, he mentioned needing to 'save someone from her own father.' It never clicked until now..."
My mother averted her gaze. Tears welled up in my eyes as I pressed on.
"Now I understand. He was trying to find Florence, the child you abandoned," My fists clenched as tears streamed down my cheeks. "And he died because of it! He died trying to save the child you cast aside, died because of your selfishness, died trying to redeem your choices!"
She quickly wiped a stray tear and stated with forced conviction, "He died because he fancied himself a hero."
"You're my mother. I expected better." Shaking my head with finality, I said, "I won't be Luna," and walked away, leaving her voice echoing behind me.
"Samantha! Get back here!"
Tears streamed down my face as I walked away, the weight of my actions and the truth about my family crushing me. I couldn't fathom attempting to kill the very girl my father risked his life to save, my own step-sister.
……..
**Sarah’s POV**
The car door slammed shut. I stormed through the grand foyer, the opulent surroundings doing little to soothe my anger.
"Ungrateful child!" I muttered under my breath.
Reaching the kitchen, I snatched a glass and poured myself water, the cool liquid failing to quench my fury. Samantha's audacity in rejecting the Luna title, a future I'd meticulously orchestrated - was infuriating.
And the revelation that Florence, the child I'd cast aside, was not only alive but Alpha Nicholas's mate? It was enough to make me scoff. The very thought of that abomination, who should have perished alongside her wretched father, as Luna was utterly absurd.
Trembling with rage, I spun to find Olga, my loyal maid, standing silently in the doorway.
A flicker of frustration crossed my mind. While I couldn't deny Olga's usefulness, a part of me resented her approval of Samantha's connection with Agares which only led her to banishment.
"What troubles you, Madame?" her voice came.
Letting out a frustrated sigh, I addressed her, "Olga, that insufferable child! She has the audacity to refuse the Luna position after everything I've done for her."
Olga remained impassive, her aged face an unreadable mask. She knew all my secrets. And technically she heard me and Samantha arguing last night. She knew Florence was my other daughter and that Florence was Nicholas's mate and the infamous spy.
I can't believe the spy named Veilios and that abomination of a child was one person. Arghhh! Can't I just take a break?
Olga's voice, calm and measured, "Perhaps I can offer some assistance,"
I snapped my head towards her, a single perfectly arched eyebrow expressing my curiosity. Olga simply reached into her pocket, pulled out her phone, and dialed a number, the confident set of her jaw made me uneasy.
“Madame Sarah was here” she announced.
My heart hammered against my ribs as a voice, unfamiliar yet strangely familiar, greeted me.
"Sarah"
"Who is this?" I demanded, shooting my maid a suspicious glare.
"This is Keith Caldwell," the voice replied. He continued, "I hear you have a problem with a certain Florence."
The name sent a jolt through me. Keith Caldwell. I knew he was a member of the Werewolf Council. Why would he call…..
Realization dawned on me as my eyes fixed on my maid.
"I can help you with that," he said, his voice dropping a notch lower, “But I need your help in return."
My mind raced. The chance to get rid of Florence, to permanently remove her from the equation, to reclaim the future I had so meticulously planned for Samantha…
"What do you have in mind?"
He outlined his plan. It was audacious, bordering on insanity even, yet it had a point. a way to ensure Florence wouldn't be a thorn in my side anymore.
“You will help Florence escape you say? That is your plan?” I echoed.
“Yes” came from the other line.
I thought for a moment, looking down at my manicured nails. I can use his plan to my advantage. His plan was a perfect alibi to avoid raising suspicion.
“Okay, count me in then” I casually said, extending the phone back to Olga.
As the call ended, I didn't waste time asking.
"Olga, how do you know Keith?"
Her eyes are still cold and sharp like always, "I met him… years ago. On one of my… short trips. He mentioned a plan, something about a change in the monarchy,"
I raised a brow, “Like a new era?”
Olga's lips curved into a thin smile, “Yes, Madame”
A new era? What does that even mean? But his mention of Florence, the promise of her removal, was music to my ears.
"How long has he been contacting you?"
"Only since the council meeting,"
I still didn't like it. Olga had always been loyal but secretive. Yet, I had chosen to trust her.
"Alright," I conceded, nodding curtly. But a new worry gnawed at me. "Nicholas only allowed Samantha to stay for a week. She needs to be out of the pack by tomorrow."
Panic bubbled up through me. I need to make her the Luna Queen. And I will be able to do it only if I get rid of Florence.
"Then we find her another place close to the pack's territory," Olga said calmly.
"Arrange for her to stay at the nearest inn, just outside the borders. Find some men, reliable ones, to guard her. Don't let her leave, under any circumstances."
Olga bowed her head slightly, "As you wish, Madame," she said, her voice devoid of emotion.
I grumbled, "I require some sleep to deal with this mess." I retreated to my room, leaving Olga to her task.
