The Alpha King's Mistress Chapter 25: Petty Fight

The guard next to me snarled, "Where are you staring at?" and grabbed my arm, forcing me to gaze straight ahead.

I rolled my eyes and kept walking down the long series of stairs. Bright lamps adorned the stone wall. My planning and thought processes were active as I moved. I was much more aware of my surroundings, able to hear the breathing of the guards standing next to and behind me, their footsteps, and the sound of keys clinking.

After taking the final step, we immediately started down the corridor. As we walked onto the other corridor, I cracked my fingers, choosing to carry out my last-minute scheme. Suddenly, I was startled by the sound of racing footsteps approaching us from behind. I came to a complete halt and turned around to face the darkened passageway.

A burly guard arrived a little while later and appeared distraught, saying, "Hey."

All of the guards surrounding me halted in their stride and turned to see the newcomer.

The guard on my left scoffed, "Why do you seem like you're in deep shit, Carter?"

"Who wouldn't when Scyther was starting again? I swear I am so close to murdering that guy."

Another guard chimed in, shaking his head, "So he has a crazy episode again, huh?"

The man called Carter complained frustratedly, "He had stabbed two of the guards in their eyes who served him food until I walked in and intervened. One of the guards was close to shifting and tearing that wretched man into pieces."

I masked my shock by pursing my lips in a tight line. Scyther is here. I didn't anticipate that he would be captured anytime soon. Part of me wanted to laugh, but the darker part of me crept out. Lycans impressed me right now. Capturing that man was an accomplishment in and of itself.

Scyther was a notorious madman who killed rogues and even werewolves. Nobody knows what led to his actions, which some have labeled as unfair. But after working as a spy for too long and encountering enough so-called awful criminals, I discovered that occasionally their motives were reasonable.

I remained silent, allowing the four guys to become engrossed in their discussions. It was fortunate that they were unconcerned with me being next to them.

The soldier who was holding me said, pointing down the dim corridor, "Then you should have let him murder that moron! I don't know why the Alpha still wants him alive."

"Have you gone insane, Ralph? If he died, the Alpha would be displeased. There's a reason we didn't get any orders to execute him."

I silently agreed with the statement. There is always a reason to keep a horrifying criminal alive, mostly one-sided only.

"Fuck the order. If I were in that situation, I would damn sure that man was ripped to shreds now," Ralph sneered, tightening his hold on my arm.

I clenched my fist. One was from the tightened grip on my arm, and the second was the disrespectful statement towards Nicholas.

I let out a frustrated sigh at the way my mind was working right now.

Seriously, Florence? I shouldn't be concerned about whether Nicholas was stabbed or not. I shouldn't care at all about this pack or whatever happens to this damn guard!

My train of thought stopped when the man who closed the door earlier stepped in. However, most of it was merely one-sided.

"Let's stop arguing about this right now; we have more important things to address than this," he said, casting a suspicious glance my way before turning to the guard Ralph and saying, "You two may take her to her prison while I go with Carter to deal with Scyther."

Nodding in agreement, Carter added, "That's what I wanted to hear, Simon."

Ralph irritably stated, "Or we can simply barge into where that damned Scyther is and kill him."

"You're being too full of yourself, Ralph. Scyther can easily kill you," Carter snapped aggressively.

It didn't escape my observation that the guards were acting aggressively, so it didn't come as a surprise when Ralph shoved me aside and moved in front of Carter, demanding authority.

When the second guard instantly caught my arm in his hold and pulled me back, bolting at this point was not even an option. I simply watched the two Lycans get on each other's nerves. After all, at the end of the day, this would just benefit me.

"What did you say? I fucking dared you to say it again, bastard," snarled Ralph as he roughly grabbed Carter's collar.

"I said that you are too proud of yourself when you are only a recently appointed warrior and evidently foolish," Carter responded with a condescending sneer.

“You scumbag!” Ralph growled and landed a hard punch on Carter, who stumbled backward. “I will kill you!”

The man that was holding me quickly shoved me away and got in between the two, along with the guard named Simon. I hissed when I hit my shoulder on the wall, glaring at the back of the head of the guard. While the four guys engaged in their pointless altercations, I stroked my shoulder and took in my surroundings.

“What do you two think you're doing?!” Simon scolded once they finally pulled apart and stopped tearing into each other. “Are you two-year-olds?!”

“Let me damn go! I am gonna kill that arrogant bastard!” Ralph yelled as he struggled to wriggle free from his comrade's iron hold.

“Shut up, Ralph, or I am gonna report you to Beta Clifford,” Simon growled warningly.

It made the three men all fall silent at the name of their pack’s beta.

“Damn it,” Ralph swore and angrily pulled his arm, running his hand through his hair before marching out of the place.

The three men just stared at the retreating back of Ralph before shifting their attention to me. I had my arms crossed over my chest and was leaning on the wall. I raised a brow at the three men who looked taken aback seeing me, or more like finding me there.

“I am not dumb enough to attempt an escape,” I muttered with a shrug and let the other unnamed man hold my arm again.

I didn't appear to have a choice either.

“That bastard was still lucky that the Alpha was not here,” Carter mumbled, smoothing his black shirt.

“Let's just ignore him. He's still new and young,” Simon pointed and turned to face the man who was holding me, “You can bring her to the dungeon by yourself, right?”

“Of course, what can a woman so weak do to me?”

To prevent myself from responding, I bit my bottom lip. I would love nothing more than to punch this man in the face.

“Alright. We better get moving,” Simon glanced at me before walking away along with Carter, disappearing into the dark hallway.

With one last look at the creepy and eerie hallway, I let my feet cooperate as the guard dragged me away to the left side of the dungeon. There was a smile plastered on my face from knowing that my good-for-nothing excuse of a mate left his pack. It looked like the heavens were on my side today.
