The Alpha King's Mistress Chapter 91: Worried??
In a haze, I felt the motion of Nicholas running. I struggled to comprehend his words as the lack of air overwhelmed me. I could feel and hear his heartbeat, loud and fast. Was he scared?
“Please, just a little more. Open your eyes, baby. Come on, baby. You're going to be okay. Just breathe."
Suddenly, as if in a blur, we were in his room. I managed to hear him shouting at someone inside the room.
“Evelyn, please help her!”
Nicholas gently placed me on the bed, cradling me against his chest. I felt a sharp prick on my arm as someone injected me with something. The room echoed with faint voices, assuring that the medicine would take effect soon.
Nicholas gently settled me on the bed, cradling me against his chest. A sharp prick on my arm signaled an injection, and faint voices echoed in the room, assuring that the medicine would take effect soon.
"The medicine should take effect soon. She will be fine, Alpha,” reassured a voice.
“Are you sure? But why the fck is she not opening her eyes?!” Nicholas exclaimed, his concern evident.
“Please calm down, Alpha. We need to wait,” a soothing voice replied.
“Please, Florence, baby.”
After agonizing minutes, I gradually felt a release of the tightness in my throat. The suffocating feeling eased, allowing me to take hesitant breaths. Slowly, I opened my eyes. An elderly woman stood before me, holding a mini flashlight to check my eyes.
“Can you finally breathe fine?”
I managed a weak nod, still exhausted and gasping for air.
“That's good.”
Nicholas held me tightly, his trembling grip as he laid me on the bed. He kneeled on the floor, touching my face. Panic etched across his features, visibly relaxing.
He chuckled, breathing heavily, “Shit, you scared me there, woman. Please don't do this to me again. Just please, don't.”
The elderly woman approached, her steady gaze assessing my condition. "She should be fine now. But to be sure, I would check her again. I'll just get my things.”
Nicholas's eyes softened, “Thanks, Evelyn.”
As the doctor left the room, his worried gaze lingered on my face. “Are you sure you're okay?”
The itchiness and the swollen feeling were slowly lessening, and my breathing was improving.
“Y-yeah,” I weakly replied, suddenly feeling drained of energy.
Then, to my surprise, he rested his head on my shoulder.
"I should have stopped you so firmly back there,” he murmured.
A few minutes later, when I could breathe regularly again, I mustered a weak smile, teasing him with a question.
"Were you worried? I heard you panicking back there."
I felt him stiffen, and he raised his head, staring at me. He cleared his throat, “Why would you even do that?”
I didn't dare to feel hurt at his change of topic.
"You know I can't let them see their Alpha King with a weak mistress, a laughing stock because of a simple allergy," I weakly said.
“Why would you even worry about that? You are mine, and you don't have any duty to—”
I cut him off, "I know. But I need them to respect you, to see you as the powerful Alpha that you are. I heard that they used to intimidate other women in the past and used it against you. No matter how lame I think it was, I won't let them use my weakness to tarnish your image."
Nicholas's expression shifted into genuine surprise as he looked at me before shaking his head. He cleared his throat, “I don't want this thing to happen again. Promise me you won't take such risks of eating something you're allergic to. Don't…worry about my image or even me. You should look out for yourself first….always.”
“Nicholas—”
“It's an order as your Alpha King, Florence.”
I stared at him and forced myself to nod. “O-okay.”
He stood up and poured himself a glass of water when I suddenly remembered something about a tour of the pack.
“I think you should join the council. They might get suspicious if you're not there. I'll be fine; the doctor is here to take care of me. Besides, it's just a tour,” I suggested.
He frowned and replied firmly, “Clifford can take care of that. I have had enough of their presence for today.”
“But they might get suspicious that something is wrong with me because of our sudden leave. They might really think I have an allergy or that you're worried about me if you don't make a slight appearance there.”
He looked at me and sighed, “Damn it.”
I smiled, “Now, go there. I'll be fine if that's what you're worried about.”
“I'll wait”
“I promise I am fine—”
He smirked, “You can't change my mind on this one. So, drop it.”
I just nodded and closed my eyes, feeling the sudden heaviness of my eyelids and drowsiness kicking in. A few minutes later, I heard the door open. As I slowly gave in to sleep, I could register the faint voices.
"Doctor, is she going to be alright?"
"Rest assured, Alpha. I've administered the necessary medication, and there's no need for hospitalization. She should be in full recovery soon.”
"That’s good. Don't leave her side. I'll handle the council outside; I'll be back quick.”
"You have my word, Alpha. I'll stay with her and monitor her closely."
In my semi-conscious state, I sensed a gentle kiss on my forehead and a light squeeze of my hand, then the next thing I heard was the closing of the door.
…….
**Nicholas’s POV**
As I stepped outside, my mind weighed heavily with concern for Florence. Outside, the other council members were leisurely strolling through my garden, guided by Clifford. My warriors stood watch nearby, a silent reminder of the boundaries they dared not cross. The council members glanced my way as I approached, their expressions curious yet no one dared to ask me something.
I acknowledged Clifford with a subtle nod, allowing him to continue his tour of the estate.
Clifford continued his explanation with a calm and composed demeanor. "Now, this here is the main courtyard, beautifully adorned with rare flowers and plants, a testament to the richness of our pack's heritage. Over there, you'll find the training grounds, where our warriors hone their skills to protect our pack."
The council members listened attentively. Their eyes occasionally darted to me, seeking approval. I maintained a stoic expression, my mind preoccupied with Florence.
During the tense tour, Mr. Agares suddenly asked about Florence. His interest didn't sit well with me, and I responded in a cold tone, masking the protective instincts stirring within me.
“Alpha Nicholas, it's not like you to keep your mistress away from gatherings. Where is she?"
I responded icily, "Florence has pressing matters to attend to, Mr. Agares. She won't be joining us."
Mr. Agares just cleared his throat and looked away from me with a scowl on his face. Then, a woman near chimed in a teasing tone.
"Alpha Nicholas, if you may, please contact me whenever Florence’s contract with you ends. I want to set her up with my son. She might be a good match for him."
Jealousy flared within me, an emotion I hadn't anticipated. "Absolutely not. Florence stays with me," I declared possessively, my tone leaving no room for negotiation.
The woman’s eyes widened for a second before she chuckled and nodded, "You're even more possessive than I thought, Alpha"
