The Alpha King's Mistress Chapter 69: Request

The next few days became so hectic at the flower shop that once I got home, I was knocked out instantly. I didn't even notice that there were only 3 days left before the Werewolf Council visited this place.

Ever since the conversation I had with Percival and Quin, I decided to follow their suggestion and just lay low for now. I decided to wait for the meeting of the Werewolf Council to pass before I set my plan to action, which was to get close to Nicholas as much as possible–maybe make him fall in love with me. However, I continued to familiarize myself with the map Jake had given me, just in case.

It's always good to have a backup plan.

During this time, I hadn't seen Layla or had any visits from Gayle. And as much as I don't want to admit it, I was expecting Nicholas to visit unexpectedly but he never did. He must be really busy.

While wiping down the counter, my attention shifted to a stylish elderly lady engaged in a serious conversation with Sammy. I couldn't help but eavesdrop a bit.

"Sammy, darling, we simply must ensure we have peonies, dahlias, and a dash of lavender for the centerpieces," the elegant old lady stated.

"Peonies, dahlias, lavender... got it," Sammy nodded, scribbling furiously on her notepad. "Anything else, Mrs. Carmichael?"

"Yes, a touch of baby's breath and wildflowers for the bouquets," Mrs. Carmichael added.

Sammy glances around as if taking mental notes. "Sounds like we're setting up for a royal gala for that demanding old geezer"

Mrs. Carmichael chuckled softly, "Oh, you bet. But appearances can be deceiving. What's essential is often invisible to the eye”

After Mrs. Carmichael's left the store, Sammy sauntered over to me, "Florence, you comin' to the dinner party?"

I raised an eyebrow, "Everyone’s invited?"

Sammy nodded enthusiastically. "Absolutely everyone. We might not want the Council but we love parties. Also, I heard they will bring some of their families here so new faces”

I shake my head, “I think I'm gonna pass. I don't feel like partying this week. I'm gonna stay home”

"You won't?"

I chuckled, “Yeah”

She sighed, “Okay but if you change your mind, give me a call okay?”

I smiled at her, “Noted”

After the last customer left, we finished closing up shop. With a quick wave to Sammy, I headed to my car wanting to rest on my bed for the day.

Driving home, I glanced in the rearview mirror more often than usual, half-expecting to catch a glimpse of Gayle. Yet, the road remained empty.

“There’s no way I will see her in act tailing me” I murmured to myself.

I wanted to check the map Jake gave me, to venture to the borders but the thought that Gayle was just nearby made me have second -thoughts.

As I parked my car and prepared to step out, another vehicle pulled up alongside mine. My brows furrowed in mild surprise as I recognized Isaac and Gayle stepping out of the car.

Isaac sported dark jeans, paired with a plain white tee and a denim jacket. Its sleeves rolled up casually. Gayle, on the other hand, donned a pair of fitted black jeans cuffed at the ankles, accompanied by a loose, button-down shirt in a muted color that draped over her slender frame. Her hair was kept as usual in a high ponytail.

"Isaac, Gayle, what brings you here?" I asked, frowning at the sight of them.

Isaac and Gayle exchanged a glance, their expressions taking on a serious tone that immediately made me feel uneasy.

"The Alpha has requested your presence at his residence," Isaac began, his voice curt and serious.

"The castle?" I blurted out.

"Yes, the castle," Gayle confirmed, her gaze fixed on me.

"Why does he want to see me?"

Isaac hesitated for a moment, "He didn't specify. He just gave us orders to fetch you"

As if I would go to his residence willingly. Yes, I want to see him but I should steer clear these days to his residence.

"I'm sorry, I can't go," I firmly replied, my mind racing to make up a plausible excuse. "I have... plans. Sorry."

Isaac's stoic expression remained, "I understand your reluctance, but the Alpha insists on your presence. It's important."

I crossed my arms, raising a brow, "But why now? Nicholas never needed me before,"

"You should come with us, Florence. It is an order"

"And I just said I can't. Not tonight. Not to that place."

Isaac's demeanor softened for a moment, and sighed, "Look, Florence, I don't really want to say this….but if you didn't come with us willingly, you will leave us no choice but to force you"

I stare at them, sensing they will not be backing down on this one. With a resigned sigh, I dropped down my arms, shrugging.

“You should have not shown courtesy in the first place if there’s only one answer you would be accepting” I grumbled and walked into their car.

They both looked away as I hopped into their car. Gayle and Isaac took the front seats while I settled uncomfortably in the back. The knots in my stomach tightened – this was the first time I'd be heading towards the castle after that one breakfast tradition.

As the car moved onward, silence permeated around the three of us. I focus my gaze on the forest passing by. The dense trees swayed in the evening breeze.

Soon enough, the looming silhouette of the castle emerged into view. Isaac and Gayle wasted no time getting out. I moved to follow suit, but Isaac was lightning-fast, opening the car door before I had a chance to reach for the handle.

I offered a quick "Thanks" before stepping out.

The sight that greeted me made me more confused. Servants bustled around, their hurried footsteps echoing in the fading light. While a group of men I was sure were warriors with their combat clothes and weapons were hurrying into the forest.

My attention shifted to Gayle who gestured to the entrance of the castle.

“Let us go” she curtly said, offering me a small smile like we didn't have a serious talk last week.

“Is he inside?” I asked.

Gayle shook her head, “The alpha was busy overseeing the warriors' training and wouldn't be inside the castle until later. They were going at it until 8 tonight”

“Training huh” I murmured, glancing at the forest. I think it would be fun to see it myself. "Cool, I wanna meet Nicholas there."
