The Alpha King's Mistress Chapter 49: Enchanted To Meet You
As we approached the field, the atmosphere seemed to shift. The landscape transformed into a picturesque sight—a vast expanse adorned with vibrant colors. The field itself was a breathtaking sight to behold. Rows upon rows of flowers swayed gently in the breeze, a mesmerizing display of colors—deep purples, vibrant yellows, and soft pinks—all harmoniously blending together.
Benches were strategically placed around, inviting people to sit. At the front, a small stage stood proudly, hinting at the evening's entertainment. Tents dotted the area.
Excitement danced in Sammy's eyes as she eagerly hopped out of the car, and I followed suit. She beamed, “Welcome to the Sunset Field!”
I smiled at her, glancing around. As we walked further into the field, I noticed that quite a number of people had already settled in, finding their spots and waiting for the evening's performance.
As we made our way deeper into the field, Sammy gently tugged my hand, “Let’s go at the front” guiding me towards the front where a small stage awaited us.
Upon reaching the front, my gaze fell upon four men and one woman taking their positions on the stage, each holding an instrument.
“We arrived on time!” Sammy giggled beside me.
“Yeah,” I replied, smiling at her.
Just as I was taking in the scene, Sammy's voice rang out behind me, “Love!”
As I turned around, my eyes settled on a man with a warm smile adorning his face while waving at Sammy. This might be her mate. He had a casual demeanor, with clean style dark hair and a welcoming smile that reached his eyes.
"This is Charlie," she announced cheerfully as the man reached us "He's my husband and mate."
I extended a hand in greeting. "Nice to meet you," I offered with a friendly smile, trying to mirror the warmth he and Sammy radiated. "I'm Florence.”
“Oh, you are her new workmate,” Charlie exclaimed.
I nodded at him, “Yeah, yours truly ”
Soon after, the band kicked off their performance, and the melodic tunes filled the air, drawing everyone's attention. The music was infectious, and before I knew it, I found myself swaying gently to the rhythm.
I noticed Sammy and her mate, Charlie, standing beside me. They were wrapped in an embrace while listening to the band.
I joined in, singing along with the band, enjoying the music and the collective energy of the crowd. As the song came to an end, the crowd erupted into applause. Among the crowd, shouts and screams emerged, mostly from enthusiastic teenage girls.
That seems fun. Watching popular bands with your friend during school break. A sad smile crossed my face. Sadly, I don't have any privilege for that. I didn't even have the chance to make friends or attend a public school. I was homeschooled throughout my life to the strict order of my father. Keith did the same to me, teaching me himself, or some professor would come to my house and teach me. Sometimes online.
Pushing aside the envy and a tinge of sadness, I focused my attention back on the band as they prepared for the next song. The melody began to fill the air once more.
As the song played, I found myself not just caught up in the music's rhythm but also paying close attention to the lyrics this time. It was pretty famous.
***There I was again tonight
Forcing laughter, faking smiles
Same old tired, lonely place
Walls of insincerity, shifting eyes and vacancy
Vanished when I saw your face
All I can say is, it was enchanting to meet you***
As I listened to the song, the lyrics began to hit closer to home than I expected. Each verse echoed sentiments of longing and the pain of my own love story.
***Your eyes whispered, "Have we met?"
'Cross the room your silhouette
Starts to make its way to me
The playful conversation starts
Counter all your quick remarks
Like passing notes in secrecy
And it was enchanting to meet you
All I can say is, I was enchanted to meet you
This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you
The lingering question kept me up
2 AM, who do you love?
I wonder 'til I'm wide awake
And now I'm pacing back and forth
Wishing you were at my door
I'd open up and you would say, "Hey"
It was enchanting to meet you
All I know is, I was enchanted to meet you***
All of a sudden, a familiar tingle prickled across my skin, a sensation that I'd grown all too accustomed to. I instinctively placed my hands down and glanced around—finding him. There was only one person who had the power to evoke such a reaction within me—Nicholas. His presence or even just the mere thought of him always seemed to stir up this unsettling flutter in my chest.
***This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
That this night is flawless, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, dancing around all alone
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you***
As I scanned the area, searching for a glimpse of Nicholas. An involuntary smile formed on my lips after spotting him in the crowd. He was standing out like a beacon with that messy black hair making him look even hotter. He rocked that white polo, unbuttoned in a way that makes you look twice. Some locks of his hair swayed in the breeze. His green eyes seemed to sparkle in the afternoon sunlight.
But any admiration or flutter of seeing him instantly vanished when I saw Samantha with him, it felt like a sharp stab to the heart.
As if on cue, our gazes met, and as expected, his eyes held that familiar coldness towards me. His eyes seemed to lock onto mine briefly. When did he come back?
***This is me praying that
This was the very first page
Not where the story line ends
My thoughts will echo your name, until I see you again
These are the words I held back, as I was leaving too soon
I was enchanted to meet you*

As I stood there, still holding his gaze but Samantha leaned in, grabbing his attention, whispering something to Nicholas with a bright smile on her face. His gaze shifted away from mine, diverting his attention to Samantha. I watched, feeling a pang of hurt as he smiled at her, his whole demeanor softening in her presence. I realized that he was back-hugging her the whole time.
Then as if it was not painful enough, I saw how Samantha leaned in until their lips met into a slow, affectionate kiss. Their eyes both closed and content crossed their features. Layla was right, they look perfect together. The sight was enough for me to be frozen in place. Aching, longing, heartache, and a sense of resignation, all mingling together in my chest. I felt my wolf howling painfully inside my head—her hurt resonating with mine.
***Please don't be in love with someone else
Please don't have somebody waiting on you
Please don't be in love with someone else
Please don't have somebody waiting on you***
Feeling the weight of the heart-wrenching moment, I tore my gaze away from the painful sight of Nicholas and Samantha. I tried to redirect my attention to the band performing on stage. But the melody seemed distant, the lyrics lost in the background of my thoughts. My mind became a foggy haze, a numbing sensation enveloping my senses as the ache in my heart grew unbearable. It was as if a heavy cloud of emotions had filled my mind, leaving me unable to focus on anything but the overwhelming sorrow that gripped me. Each note of the song felt like a cruel reminder of the unspoken anguish I felt inside.
Because the truth was in my face already. I was the one enchanted to meet him. I was the one who had hopes of meeting him for the first time. But in the end, he was already in love with someone else. Someone was already waiting for him.
***This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
This night is flawless, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, dancing around all alone
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you
Please don't be in love with someone else
Please don't have somebody waiting on you***
Despite the difficult situation, I tried to tough it out and stayed for a few more songs, hoping to shake off the heaviness in my chest caused by witnessing Nicholas and Samantha's public display of affection. I don't want him to think I am so greatly affected by it.
As the current song came to an end, Sammy came over, “Hey, Florence, let's grab some food in the stalls over there, ”
I offer a weak smile, "Oh, I think I should pass. It's getting dark, and I better head home,"
Sammy nodded understandingly, “Okay then, take care on your way” she bid me goodbye with a wave.
I waved back at her and watched them leave. With a heavy sigh, I made my way through the crowd towards my car, my thoughts scattered. Wine will be sweet company tonight.
