Five minutes passed, and a sudden knock on the door snapped me out of my reverie. I rose to answer it, finding Layla standing there, her appearance indicating that she had been out clubbing last night. Her dress seemed rumpled, and there was smudged mascara on her face, a paper bag in hand.

"Hey there! Good morning, pretty! Got some clothes for you," Layla exclaimed, seemingly unfazed by her disheveled appearance.

“Good morning to you too,” I chuckled and opened the door wider. "What happened? Did you just get in?"

Grinning back at me, Layla nodded. "Yep, just got home, and Oliver caught me as I was about to head to my room. He asked me to bring some clothes for you instantly."

“I told him not to bother you.”

She leaned towards me, “Did you say something to him?”

“What do you mean?” I asked, taking a seat across from her.

“I mean when I came back from my room to get your clothes, he was still guarding the stairs and looking at his room like he is making sure you're not going out or something. He only left when I came.”

I couldn't help stifling a laugh, “Really? Just how doubtful is he of me?”

“Well?.....” she said expectantly.

“I just told him I would go out to find you to borrow clothes.”

Layla eyed my clothes, “In that outfit?”

“Yeah, I know.”

“Oh, that's why. Well, as an Alpha, he was something.”

I shook my head, “He's still a jerk.”

She grinned at me, "Anyways, so, what brings you here?"

“Nicholas requested my presence. Seems his wolf's been feeling restless. It's almost been two weeks."

"Ah, the Alpha has been a bit restless lately. We've been trying to convince him to take a break, but he's stubborn. He has trouble sleeping but wakes up early”

Surprise painted my expression as Layla's words sank in.

"But he woke up late today."

“Really? Oh gosh yes!” she happily exclaimed as if winning a lottery prize.

“Um... yeah.”

"Guess that's because he's calm and at ease when you're around," she teased, her words carrying a knowing undertone. "It's a natural behavior for mates, you know. His wolf is calm, and maybe he still doesn't know it yet, but his human side might be feeling the same."

I shrugged, trying to act nonchalant, though hearing from others that he was calm around me sent my heart racing for some reason.

That’s too dangerous... for my heart.

"So, what happened between you and Samantha? She was still here when I left," Layla continued.

"Oh, we just had dinner together."

"Just that? Nothing happened?"

I shook my head. "Nothing interesting at all, but it was pretty annoying, to say the least. But… What's really going on between Samantha and Nicholas?" I couldn't help but ask.

Layla hesitated for a moment, "Hmm… It's hard to say. They might seem like more to most of the pack, but to us close to the Alpha, it looks like just a fling."

Her words took me aback. "I thought Nicholas would still… have feelings for her since he was keeping her and was planning to make her Luna."

Layla shook her head gently. "Yes, that plan has not yet changed. But I'm quite sure he doesn't have any feelings left for her. Samantha was just the best option the Alpha had for our Luna, nothing more. He always thinks more for the pack and not for himself, you see."

“He's an unpredictable man for sure,” I said, diverting my attention to the paper bag she had brought along.

Glancing inside, I spotted a lovely lavender dress accompanied by a pair of white sandals.

"This lavender dress is beautiful," I murmured.

"I really wanted to see you in that dress, so I had to bring it!"

I smiled at her, "Thank you, Layla.”

“No problem. There are some other things you might need as well,” she stood up, “Gotta go. I've got to put cucumber on my eyes, you know. Beauty regimen calls!"

I chuckled until she closed the door, leaving me alone in the bedroom. Gazing at the lavender dress adorned with delicate flowers, a soft smile tugged at my lips.

"This is really pretty."

After taking a refreshing bath and slipping into the lavender dress, I stood before the mirror. With my dark blonde hair cascading loosely on my back and my hazel eyes sparkling, it seemed like I had slept so soundly compared to the normal days I had.

My gaze shifted to the lipstick inside the paper bag. I uncapped it and carefully applied the shade to my lips. The pink color complemented the lavender dress.

“Okay, let’s go”

Stepping outside, the lavender dress swayed gently with each step as I walked through the corridors, taking in the exquisite paintings hanging on the walls. While looking around, I noticed the maids going back and forth. They seem really busy early in the morning.

I continued my stroll, peeking into various rooms until my gaze settled upon a set of grand double doors, ajar and inviting. Approaching the grand double doors, I leaned in and peeked inside, greeted by the sight of a vast and spacious hall. It looks like a Great Hall of how big it was. It is the biggest room I have ever seen while exploring this estate.

I stood there for a moment, seeing the maids lined up, all their heads hung low. Meanwhile, a few people who looked like organizers with their clipboards looked frozen in place and interestingly, Samantha was at the crime scene.

My gaze landed on the woman standing in front of a girl not more than 7 years old. Their resemblance suggested they might be sisters. While an old and strict-looking woman was beside Samantha. My eyes darted around, noticing a tray on the floor and a shard of porcelain plates scattered nearby. Foods are scattered on the line of fabrics.

The child might have dropped the food then….

“So who is lying between the two of you?!” Samantha exclaimed angrily.

That surprised me. I never thought she would raise her voice to the maids knowing that she was pretending to be a sweet kind woman.

“It is true that Mrs. Olga ordered me to bring—” the girl tried to explain but the old woman cut her off with a deadly glare.

“I didn't order you anything, child. Aren't you just begging for attention, that's why you think you can meddle with things?”

“My younger sister was not like that!”

“Oh please, Lena, you're sister always a mischief and troublemaker”

Samantha cut in, “Stop both of you! Instead of defending your sister, why don't you teach her not to lie? And just how stupid she can be to drop that food huh?!”

I had no plan to intervene whatever their problems were so I turned to leave the hall. However, before I could step away, Lena spoke up.

“Instead of being such a bitch, why don’t you look at the CCTV camera there! The Alpha installed one” Lena gritted. “Let’s see who's the stupid one here, my sister or your old minion!”

Samantha's hand swiftly met the woman's cheek in a sharp slap, startling everyone present. A collective gasp echoed through the hall. The young girl, caught in the middle, began to cry.

“How dare you say that to me?!” Samantha seethed.

I can feel the sudden change of her aura like her wolf was close to resurfacing.

Haist, Lycans….

I shouldn't intervene, I know but does my wolf understand it? Solid NO. Nasya wanted me to step forward and defend the people she viewed as her responsibility being their rightful Luna.
