The Alpha King's Mistress Chapter 21: Say It
I looked away. The fact that my mate was as powerful as him and didn't want me left a bitter feeling. It was like I was almost saved but not totally.
Because no matter how powerful my mate was, if he didn't want me, what was the point? Nothing. Nothing will change in my life. I was stuck where I had been. And the only thing that can save me from all my problems was me.
"What did you call me for?" I snapped, my hands clenching. My long nails dug into my palms.
A sane part of my mind knew that if I tried to harm him, I would end up hurting myself badly and I wanted to avoid that. And in exchange, I resort to inflicting pain to stop myself from doing something harsh.
Nicholas sat unperturbed in his chair. "Does staying for three days in the dungeon make you love it?"
"Well, I prefer that place than seeing you actually"
"Still stubborn, I see"
I pursed my lips in a straight line to stop saying something.
"Are you not going to say thank you for the clothing and food that I provide for you?" he asked calmly.
I smirked, "You ought to do this to me at least after hurting me. So why should I thank you for it?"
He stared at me for a second before he tiredly sighed, "Fair enough. Then let's move on to the real deal"
He stood up and walked towards me like a predator preparing to rip its prey to pieces, only this time it felt that he was going to break me.
"I told you that you need to make a decision in three days, didn't I?" He looked down at my fisted hands on my side. He smirked and glanced at the other door on his right before focusing his attention back on me. Without breaking eye contact with me, he gave an order.
"Come in," he commanded.
The door burst open, revealing his gamma—Isaac who was dragging Barbara. I instantly turned my head to the door. I gritted my teeth at the sight of Barbara.
Nicholas’s laughter boomed in the tense, quiet hall before he mused, "It looks like you've already decided"
I diverted my attention to Nicholas and glared at him.
"And it looked like you're having fun," I seethed.
He nodded arrogantly, "Indeed, I am having fun, especially in knowing your decision"
"May I know what's happening? Why did you call me, Alpha Nicholas?" Barbara asked calmly, looking between us.
With Nicholas's eyes holding nothing but apathy, he glanced at Barbara and spoke.
"She was misbehaving and ill-mannered. I have little patience and a lot of work to do to spare some time in teaching her how to submit to me. Using a quick method was appropriately needed"
Shock registered on the old woman's face before she glanced at me. "I apologize. I didn't know this will happen"
"I didn't bring you here to hear your apologetic excuse" Nicholas replied, looking at me. "You are here as part of our deal. If she decided to be obedient and do her duty, she will live but if not, your death will be today"
Despite the threat, Barbara merely stares at me, and her eyes quickly assess my appearance. Her gaze softened upon seeing my thinner body and possibly the dark circles under my eyes. I mouthed sorry at her, feeling guilty for this whole ordeal.
“I will—'' I began to prevent whatever craziness Nicholas was playing but Barbara interrupted me and my eyes just widened at her next words.
"Instead of that deal, I will just take her and I will double the money you paid for her as compensation for all the trouble she caused. That will resolve the—"
Barbara couldn't finish her sentence when Nicholas had already his hands wrapped around her neck. His gaze was terrifying and menacing which made my skin crawl at the thick power coming from him.
"Who told you that you can take what's mine? I don't care if you triple the money. I already bought her and there's no way you can just put her out of this mess" Nicholas snarled in a pit of anger, squeezing the thin and frail neck of Barbara so that her feet were slowly elevating from the ground.
"STOP! LET HER GO!" I shouted, grabbing his arm. My distressed voice echoed in the hall.
Tingles and sparks flew on my skin as soon as I touched him but I ignored it. He closed his eyes and harshly pulled out his hand from me, moving away from me. I quickly looked down at Barbara who coughed and gasped for air while on the floor helplessly. I cannot believe that Nicholas hurt the old woman. This man was really good at proving all the names commoners have on him.
A cruel and ruthless man.
"I will follow your orders……" I trailed off. “I will follow you from now on”
Nicholas took a controlled breath, his growling darkly as he roughly dropped Barbara to the ground “You fcking will. That is not a question”
"So stop this act!"
"Then say it" he completely faced me.
I frowned, "What the heck are you saying? I have just agreed to follow your orders!"
"Tell me you are my mistress. Tell me you are mine" he demanded like he has my life in his hands.
I clenched my fist so tight that my nails dug into my palm painfully. I take a shaky and slowed breath.
"I...I am your mistress" my voice was almost a whisper. "I-I a-am yours"
Saying the last phrase felt as if my heart was being crushed into pieces saying it. Because it made our relationship more clear than before. I was his. But he will never be mine. A messed up relationship.
But I will not show him how it breaks me. I had cried in front of him enough. It should not happen again.*
