Clifford interjected, "The video showed Sara with a male companion. Were you involved, and what explains her northward direction? Based on the traces, she seemed so sure about her destination."

A small smile played on my lips. I knew Sara was a clever girl.

"Yes, I instructed her to head north," I explained. "Though she could shift, she lacked proper training. I offered basic guidance for her and her wolf, directing her to my house to collect any necessities."

That’s….” Gayle shakes her head, “Badass”

Isaac remained unconvinced. "How can we be sure you're telling the truth?"

"The CCTV footage from Madam Barbara's club can verify my story. The man who struck the deal with me visited on May 12th, around 9 pm."

Nicholas's voice turned dark and dangerous. "Was he the one who marked your neck with those red lines that night?"

I nodded curtly. "Yes."

"Do you recall his name?"

"Austin Bates. And..." I hesitated, "he's a member of the Mad Crest Pride."

Clifford raised an eyebrow. "How do you know that?"

"During my time in hiding, I extensively investigated the Mad Crest Pride," I explained. "My job occasionally exposed me to mentions of the group, and I learned that only their squad leaders bore Greek tattoos. Austin Bates sported such a tattoo on his neck, and I happen to be multilingual, including Greek."

Nicholas's voice hardened. "So, the connection between the Swiftmane Pack and the Mad Crest Pride is confirmed."

I decided to just spill everything I knew. “Austin mentioned that time that Alpha Jason promised them something but he pulled back so….” the memories of the people dying flash in my mind, “They attacked his pack”

Nicholas runs his hand through his hair which even in my worst condition I find hot. I was just too into him now.

“I think he promised his own pack members to be a subject for experimentation then he got scared and pulled back. If he was still alive, I would kill him myself” Nicholas darkly said.

“You are really Makayla Ellis or should I say Veilios,” Layla said in a shocked surprise.

“Yes, I am,” I responded forcefully. “I am all of those names”

Nicholas’s laughter filled the air, a bitter sound that cut through me, mingling with the smoke of his cigarette.

"Can't believe I let the daughter of a madman into my pack, or worse, as my soul mate. Fell right into the trap of a spy like you—of a fcking criminal."

“Because she was good at acting,” Layla shot me a death glare.

I met Layla's glare head-on until she looked away. A spy like me never had real connections. The moment I made friends, I knew that once they discovered my true identity, they would abandon me, or worse, I would need to distance myself from them for their safety. I was a danger to myself, and I shouldn't have held onto hope that this time would be different.

“In everything you said, is there... even the truth?” Nicholas asked while a cigarette held firmly between his fingers.

He looked impossibly intimidating today and I bet that if I wasn't his mate, I was already trembling from fear.

“Yes, from—”

He cut me off, shaking his head. “You don't need to answer that. I realize I don't need to know since I won't be able to believe you. I mean, who would’ve believed a spy like you, right?”

I wanted to explain that everything I shared with him about families and emotions, it was all genuine. But I held back, recognizing the truth in his words. I couldn't blame him. If I were in his position, I wouldn't believe me either.

Then Isaac spoke, his voice surprisingly soft, filled with sympathy. “Was Samantha’s mother really your biological mom as well?”

The ache in my heart deepened, but I concealed my emotions behind a poker face.

"Yes," I replied quietly. “She left me when I was a child, leaving me with my father.”

“The famous rogue man—Francis Lancaster who killed himself,” Clifford added.

I swallowed the lump forming in my throat at the memory of my own father.

“Yes, I am his daughter. He killed himself years after my mother left us. He would always say her name and would hurt me asking why she left,” I recounted with a bitter smirk, a feeble attempt to mask the pain. “He always said my eyes resembled my mother's. So when he was not in the right state of mind, he would hurt me, blaming me for leaving us.”

I could almost see the flash of pity in their eyes.

Isaac pressed on, “Then how did you become acquainted with Keith Caldwell?”

“When my father died, I left our house. After wandering alone for two years, he found me and offered me shelter”

Clifford frowned, “How old were you when that happened?”

A sad smile graced my lips. “Thirteen,” I replied.

Layla gasped, her hand flying to cover her mouth in shock. “Oh my god,” she exclaimed.

“He raised me and practically trained me. At first, I thought it was just for self-defense. But when I was old enough, he assigned me my first mission, which was to spy on a wealthy human handling a major corporation.”

Isaac grimaced, “I guess you underwent intense training,” he murmured.

I shrugged, downplaying the gravity of my past. “Mostly involved silver. I became accustomed to it and learned to handle the toxin quite well.”

Isaac looked at me as if realization dawned on him.

“On the airplane on your first day here, did you think the liquid in the syringes was mixed silver?”

“I do. Keith would use a syringe on me and mostly it was a chemical containing mostly silver”

They regarded me with a mixture of shock, pity, and perhaps a flicker of doubt but Gayle who was silent the whole time cursed under her breath.

“That bastard. How could he do that? He is practically killing you!”

My heart warmed when I heard her concern tone to me. But it instantly vanished when my eyes landed on Nicholas who observed me with his usual cold detachment, his expression unreadable. He was a master at maintaining such a stoic facade.

"Enough about your life,” Nicholas interjected sharply. “If you're telling the truth, what can you offer in exchange for your life?"

I met Nicholas's gaze squarely, resolved to offer something valuable.

"I have evidence of Keith's illegal activities over the years. Everything he tasked me to do," I began, my voice steady. "I'll assist you in bringing him to justice, and afterward, you can decide my fate."

Nicholas studied me in silence, his expression inscrutable. With a gesture, he signaled for Clifford to escort me back to the dungeon. I cast one last glance at Nicholas, who stared blankly into space before Clifford led me away.
