The Alpha King's Mistress Chapter 70: Impressive
Isaac replied, “We cannot allow you to do that. The order was to bring you to the Alpha’s chambers—”
I shot back, "You brought me here against my will, Isaac. The least you can do is respect my decision which is to see him right now"
“But—”
I sighed frustratedly, "I’ll scream my lungs out and bolt back to my cabin if you refuse me one more time"
There was tension in the air, each waiting for someone else to make a move. I stood my ground.
“I think it is not too bad to bring her there” Gyale breaks the tense silence.
Isaac glanced at her and sighed, “Fine” he gestured to the forest, “This way”
He led the way towards the forest while Gyale was behind me. I noticed some warriors glancing at us as they hurried deeper into the woods.
As we ventured further, the trees swallowed us whole. The air grew thicker with every step like a thick fog.
I can't help but ask, “Do you always have training at this hour?”
Isaac shakes his head, pushing and holding the bushes as I pass.
“Sometimes”
I expected some explanation but then I remembered that this man rarely spoke and maybe just hated to explain things.
“Why does he need to oversee the training? Isn't he busy?”
Gayle was the one who answered me, “The alpha sees to it that he oversees the training of our warriors as much as possible. He finds time even in his busy schedule”
Isaac suddenly chimed in, "That’s why….when you meet the Alpha, tell him to take a rest, get some sleep."
I blinked in surprise. "Why?"
"He's been sleeping less and less these last few months, especially these days. He is crazy busy with the investigation into the Swiftmane Pack and gearing up for the upcoming meeting," Isaac explained.
"Isn't the dinner party keeping him busy too?" I asked.
"Yeah, that too," Isaac nodded, his expression showing concern, "He needs to slow down, but he won't listen to us unless someone tells him."
The memory hit me like a ton of bricks – Nicholas had visited me out one time because he couldn't sleep without seeing me. Could that be the reason why they called me here?
"If he’s that busy and restless, why's he still overseeing the training?”
Isaac replied seriously and with an edge on his tone, "The Alpha just wants to be sure. Not all the council members are his allies."
It all started to make sense – Nicholas’s restless nights and his involvement in overseeing things. There was more at stake than I'd thought.
As we ventured deeper into the forest, the atmosphere changed. The surroundings became more rugged, with tangled underbrush and denser foliage making each step harder.
Suddenly, through the thick canopy, I spotted a clearing in the distance. Drawn to the sight, I gazed ahead, momentarily captivated by the open space.
Lost in my fascination, I failed to notice a protruding root snaking across the forest floor. My foot caught on it, causing me to stumble forward.
I stumbled a few steps, flailing my arms wildly in a desperate attempt to regain balance. Just as I felt myself losing balance, Gayle swooped in and grabbed my arm.
"Thanks," I mumbled.
Gayle chuckled softly, a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. "Careful there, clumsy."
Seeing her smile at me felt like we were back to being friends again.
With a self-deprecating smile, I nodded. "Noted."
Eventually, we emerged into the clearing. The sight before me was unexpected, catching me off guard. A group of topless warriors, their well-toned bodies glistening in the moonlight, stood engaged in a rigorous training session.
For a moment, I stood stunned, taking in the scene. The warriors' chiseled bodies made me momentarily forget where I was and what I was doing. The sight was both impressive and, I'll admit, a little mesmerizing.
Gayle's soft chuckle snapped me out of my reverie, reminding me that I was gawking.
"Impressive, right?" she whispered.
I chuckled. "Definitely."
Lost in my fascination with the warriors, Isaac's voice jolted me back to reality.
“Alpha”
Isaac's greeting was directed at none other than Nicholas. I faced Nicholas and found him walking towards me, his expression etched with a deep frown.
Seeing his face again after a week made my heart flutter for a moment. He just looks so rugged and handsome with his tailored dark trousers and a fitted, high-collared shirt that highlights his broad shoulders. His dark hair swept back from his forehead. His posture remained upright and poised, radiating confidence and control.
His intense green eyes felt like it could pierce through my thoughts, and a chill ran down my spine. I couldn't help but feel a pang of unease as he approached, his demeanor stern.
“She wanted to see you so we brought her here,” Isaac added.
Nicholas paid no heed to Isaac's presence and walked directly in front of me, his towering statue blocking the view of the topless warriors.
Feeling slightly irritated, I snapped, "Could you move a bit? You're blocking the view."
Instead of complying, Nicholas fixed me with a sharp glare. The only good thing about him ordering me to come here was seeing these impressive warriors. It's a feast for my eyes but here he was blocking it.
“Hey, dude—”
His gaze remained fixed on me as he turned slightly, addressing Isaac, "What did you let her go here? Are my orders not clear enough?"
But before Isaac could respond, I interjected firmly, "Because I chose to be here. And honestly, they have no choice"
Nicholas's expression hardened, annoyance flickering across his features.
“Bring her back to my chambers” he commanded.
“I don't want to”
He took a deep, calming breath, “I don't really care what you want. Now, go back, Florence”
I crossed my arms, "Why don't you join me, then?"
Nicholas's frown deepened, "I can't. I need to oversee the warriors,"
"But do they really need your oversight?"
Turning towards the warriors, I put on my best smile. "Hey, fellas, do you really need the Alpha here?"
The warriors remained silent, their eyes avoiding mine. Growing impatient, I raised my voice, exclaiming.
"Come on, speak up! I'll take responsibility!"
Nicholas's expression darkened, "That's enough, Florence" he commanded, his voice cutting through the air.
Facing him, I stated firmly, "From where I stand, it seems like these warriors can handle themselves. And I'm pretty sure they want you to take a rest too."
One warrior's voice broke through the quiet, "Yeah, Alpha, take a breather. We've got this covered."
Another chimed in, "We'll manage just fine, Alpha"
Nicholas remained silent. His piercing gaze surveyed the warriors, their loyalty evident, yet the strain of responsibility etched into their faces.
Taking a step closer to Nicholas, I spoke, my tone softer, "See? They want you to rest just for a little, Nicholas. They'll be fine."
He took a calming breath, “I know what I am doing”
“So, you'll stay here?” I asked, “Then I am too. This is really a nice view”
My gaze drifted back to the line of impressive warriors, their toned bodies captivating my attention. Before I could follow through with the impulse to sit and admire, I was suddenly swept off my feet—quite literally. A startled shriek escaped me as Nicholas effortlessly hoisted me onto his back.
"Hey, what are you doing?!"
Nicholas' voice boomed across the clearing, “Training's done for the day at 7!"
His command was met with cheers from the warriors, their cheers echoing through the forest. Isaac gave me a nod, while even Gayle couldn't help but crack a smile.
Perched on Nicholas's back, I shot back, hitting his back, “Okay, that’s good. Now, put me down!”
But I was met with deaf ears.
“I'll stay with them,” Isaac said.
Nicholas just gave him a nod before he resumed walking with me still perched on his back.
“Hey! Nicholas put me down!” I screamed.
Eager to get off his back, I squirmed and wriggled, when Nicholas's threat stopped me dead in my tracks.
"You keep squirming, and I'll tie you to a tree," Nicholas warned, his firm grip on my waist and back was making me lose my shit.
Damn this matebonds!
I stopped my struggles and looked ahead only to realize Gayle was no longer following us. Only moments ago, she was there, trailing behind, but now she was nowhere in sight.
