The Alpha King's Mistress Chapter 67: Calling Percival Part 1
After almost an hour, I exited the bathroom only in my robe, my eyes were swollen from tears, and droplets of water clung to my skin. With a heavy heart, I made my way to the bed, grabbing the phone I borrowed from Sammy. I sat on the floor, hugging my knees. My fingers trembled slightly as I dialed the number I had memorized by heart.
The phone rang once, twice, and then a click followed but no one answered first. A sad smile appeared on my lips since I told them that if the call was from me, I would speak first and they should wait for me to speak first. It is for safety purposes.
"Hey," I said softly, trying to mask the weight in my voice.
A familiar voice came through, "Took you forever, kiddo."
I managed a faint smile at the familiar greeting. "Give me a break, Percival. How's Sara?"
Then, in the background, I heard someone approach the phone.
“Dad, is that Florence?”
There was a pause, then another voice, full of excitement, “Florence?! Is that really you?! We were worried sick! Thought you might have met a grizzly bear!”
I let out a chuckle, “Hi there, Quin Horton.”
“It's Queen, not Quin! How many times do I have to tell you?”
“Yeah, yeah, I know. That’s what I said.”
“Nuh-uh.”
“Anyways, how's Sara?”
Quin sighed, “Oh gosh, she’s fine but the girl got some courage, I must say. She was so skinny and dirty when I saw her which was a total disaster since she was so panicky. Did you even know how shocked I am to see a teenage girl in my house one day saying your name?”
“You're the only person I know who can guarantee the safety of that girl”
“Anyways, she listens to me fine then when I took her with me, she never stopped bugging us like every day to save you! Save the most conniving spy fcking Florence Lancaster! Can you believe it? So, I told her that….”
I raised a brow, “That what?”
“I'm sorry, okay. I told her that you are a spy so she can stop worrying about you and stressing me out”
“Figured as much,”
He chuckled, “That’s why I love you my honeybee!”
I rolled my eyes at his nickname on me, “Where is she by the way?”
“Oh, she was having her training with some of our warriors. They are spoiling her”
I smiled, relieved that the girl was fine, “Thank you for taking care of her”
“It was not hard to love her when she has the heart of a warrior. Well, I can't blame her when she idolizes you” Quin said softly.
Then I heard the calm yet firm tone of Percival, “Let’s talk about the matter in hand”
“Yes, Sir” Quin replied and I heard a shuffle in the background.
I chuckled, “Did you just put me in a loudspeaker?”
“Yes,” Quin laughed then I heard Percival’s serious tone.
"What's wrong?"
“Can't hide anything from you, huh? I’m in trouble,” I confessed, my voice wavering slightly, "Like a 10 out of 10 kinda trouble.”
“Seriously bad, then?” Percival's response was straightforward, demanding a clear answer.
“Yeah, seriously bad,”
“F*ck, are you okay?!” Quin’s exclaimed from the other line.
“I am fine….for the meantime”
Percival’s firm voice cut in, “What is happening, kid?”
“I...I was auctioned off to be a mistress after the Swiftmane Pack attack, and I was bought….” I confessed, feeling a lump in my throat.
For some reason, it was harder to confess the truth.
“Who bought you?”
My grip on the phone tightened, “Nicholas”
“Acworth,” Percival deduced swiftly.
“WHAT THE FCK?! THE ALPHA KING?!” Quin’s shocked voice echoed through the phone.
“Yeah,” I breathed defeatedly.
Quin exclaimed worriedly, “Being bought by a guy who wanted you dead? Damn, you're having a streak of bad luck!”
Percival spoke again, “I heard he was taking women as his mistresses so I guess you are the current one”
“Yeah, I tried to escape once I got here but he caught me easily”
“It makes sense. Moonstone Pack is heavily guarded, and their warriors are top-notch. Escaping from there isn't a walk in the park,”
“Yeah, that’s why I am stuck here”
Uneasy silence stretched in and my heart raced as I felt like Percival already saw something off with my statements.
“But…” Percival's voice trailed off, a discerning tone edging into his words, “You don't escape carelessly, Florence. That's not like you.”
I chuckled softly, “I expect nothing less from the Alpha of the Silvermoon Pack”
Percival Horton’s the alpha of the Silvermoon Pack up in the North. They’re like the lone rangers, the only pack around those cold parts. Not too big, not too small, and they don’t mingle much with other packs or big gatherings. They’re all about doing their own thing. Men and women there are all warriors. They are deadly wolves like Lycan’s who are bloodthirsty and undergo harsh training, unlike normal packs.
And Quin Horton, he’s Percival’s son and heir to the pack. He’s a wild spirit, loves mixing it up with the humans, and he’s gay but he's proud of who he is, and never hides his alpha side. Next to his old man, he's the top dog in that pack. I’d bet a fortune he could take down Caesar Burton, the big-shot alpha from the second-strongest pack.
I was lucky enough to be associated with them after I saved Quinn when he almost fell into the cliff. After that, I stuck around their turf for a good three years. Despite knowing who I was, they still accepted me and even offered me to become a member of their pack. But I refused the offer. I care too much for them to get mixed up in the mess I’m in. But they still help me out whenever I am in danger.
I suddenly miss the small house Quin made for me where I put all of my devices and equipment.
“You're right, that is not me” I replied, looking at the bright moon through my window.
“Nicholas might just decide to let you go after a mistake. Escaping carelessly wasn't needed,” Percival seriously stated.
“It's not about if he can. It's about if he would,” I explained.
“What do you mean?”
“He wouldn't kick me out even if I made a lot of mistakes because he wanted me here since…. I am his mate”
