The Alpha King's Mistress Chapter 92: Order
Soon after, the tour ended and I went to my office. The air in the castle felt tense, and I needed to address the unsettling situation.
Concerned about the safety of my pack, I asked, "Are all council members in their rooms?"
Clifford replied, "Some are in the Grand Recreation Hall, Alpha."
"Keep a watchful eye on every corner of the castle and the entire territory. I don't trust those people"
"Understood, Alpha”
I clasped my hands, adding, “Also, please bring Samantha to me.”
He nodded, stepping outside my office. There was a pressing need for a conversation with her.
Turning to Isaac, I issued another command, "Go to the kitchen. Remove all nut ingredients and find out who prepared Florence's meal earlier."
Isaac bowed at me before stepping outside as well, leaving me alone in my thoughts. I badly wanted to take a wink of sleep but the possible threats to my pack, especially that my foes were inside my territory, stopped me from closing my eyes.
……
Soon after, Samantha's hesitant knock echoed, but I didn't make her wait. "Come in," I grumbled, not in the mood for formalities.
She entered, and her face already spilled apologies, like she sensed the storm she was walking into.
“Look Nick, I'm sorry—”
Leaning against my desk with crossed arms and a loose tie, annoyance painted all over my face. This chat was long overdue, and she knew it.
"Why did you barge into the council meeting like that? It was completely inappropriate," I directly asked.
“I really didn't mean to.”
My annoyance deepened. "Cut the act, Samantha. This isn't the time for your games. You disrupted an important meeting."
"I honestly don't know what got into me. It must be uh…..the excitement for the event"
I retorted, my tone sarcastic, "Excitement? Samantha, that is not a damn party. That is serious business."
Samantha nodded and walked towards me, about to hold my hand, but I yanked it away. She took a step back, hocked, and cleared her throat. "I'm sorry, okay? I promise, Nicholas, it won't happen again. You know I'm just trying to be involved in your affairs. I care about you."
"Care or not, there are boundaries, Samantha. Learn to respect them."
“What?" She frowned, "I would be your Luna, so I don't know why my presence there was such a big deal! Yeah, I get that what I did earlier was wrong, but it is bound to happen anyways—”
I cut her off, my jaw tight, “Do you think Luna would do that? Barge in and include other people at the table that will clearly be used against me?!”
She clenched her fist and shouted at me, “Is this about Florence? Huh? That’s why you're angry at me because of her!”
I stare at her for a moment, partly because it is my first time seeing her like this. I ran my hands through my hair, “No, Sam. It is not just about that. It is the fact that you make decisions that don't consult me or care about the fcking repercussions.”
“You're just going around in a circle, Nicholas,” she pointed to the door, “That bitch out there was the reason, just say it. Since she came here, you never once sought me out, talked to me, or even spared me a glance. You're so busy, but whenever you have time, I hear from others that you are with her! It's all because of her!”
My patience wore thin with Samantha, and my voice turned sharp and cold.
"Is that why you brought up her name earlier in the meeting?"
She swallowed, avoiding my gaze, her racing heartbeat betraying her nervousness. I knew the answer without her saying a word.
“Sam,” I warned.
"Because you’re always so protective of her that you even asked Gayle to watch her!”
"This is not a joke, Samantha. Your antics today had consequences. Someone got hurt because of your recklessness."
"Hurt? Who? Florence? It's not my fault she can't handle her allergies. Why should I be blamed for that?"
Frustration dripped from my voice. "You're missing the point, Samantha. It's about responsibility and the consequences of your actions. Florence could have been seriously harmed because of your thoughtless behavior."
“She’s a nuisance to us, to you," she insisted.
My temper flared, and I snapped, grabbing her arms and pulling her toward me. She gasped, trembling in fear.
She winced, “T-that hurts,” attempting to free herself from my grip.
“I already warned you to stay away from her and not to cross the line,” I said coldly, causing her to freeze.
“N-Nicholas, this is—”
“I've turned a blind eye to your fcking pathetic actions whenever you threatened my women in the past. I've ignored how you spent my money and slept with every guy you encountered in your damn travels using my funds while you were away.”
She gasped in shock, “How…how did you….”
“I know everything, Samantha. I've been kind to you and had only one request since you came back here—stay away from her.” I pulled her close, causing her to whimper in pain. “But you still messed that up.”
I pushed her, nearly causing her to stumble, and she rubbed her arm as she stammered to explain, “Nicholas, let me explain, please…it's um, all a one-night thing. It doesn't mean anything with those guys—”
I took out my cigar and lit it, puffing out the smoke. As I said before, I kept her around because she was once an important part of my life, and I'm comfortable with her. Partly because we also had a deal in the past and I still saw her as the best candidate to be a Luna for my pack until now.
Everyone has limits. Involving Florence and unfair treatment is my limit.
“I don't care who you sleep with, Samantha, since I do the same. It's not about those lame reasons such as sex. I don't care about those things. It's about your behavior. I heard about what happened yesterday with Lena.”
I could see her frozen in place, “Look, Nicholas, she is disrespecting me—”
“You disrespected her first,” I snapped, my fingers deftly dancing around the edges of the cigar. “And you dared to hurt her, to hurt my people.”
She cried, “I'm sorry, okay! I'm sorry, please forgive me for this once.”
I shook my head, “If you can’t act appropriately or make decisions fairly, I don't need you around here.”
“W-what do you mean? Nicholas, please, I am sorry, okay? I already said sorry!” she pleaded.
“And I've had enough. Starting tomorrow, you're not allowed to come to the castle.”
"What?! YOU CAN'T DO THAT TO ME!" she exclaimed angrily.
It was my first time seeing her this unreasonable and out of control. Inhaling, the smoke wound its way through the air, and as I exhaled, a fragment of anger seemed to dissipate. I pointed to the door.
"No! Nicholas, you can't do that to me just because of that woman!"
"Leave," I coldly demanded.
She looked at me, shocked and hurt, before stomping her way out of the door and slamming it shut. The fact that, until the end, she saw Florence as the one to blame for her actions spoke volumes. She didn't even bother apologizing for what she did to Lena. It was my first time hearing her do that. At first, I couldn't believe Gayle but she showed me a video showing the incident. It needed to be done before she did something again.
"You are not suitable in the end after all," I muttered to myself, staring out the window and bringing the cigar to my lips again.
