The Alpha King's Mistress Chapter 73: The Man

Finding myself alone in Nicholas's bedroom, I couldn't resist the temptation to explore the room. It's not like I would have any chance.

My curiosity led me to notice the connecting door, revealing a mini living area. Despite the sparse furnishings, the space felt roomy enough to rival a master bedroom.

“Damn, he is wasting space” I murmured to myself, shaking my head.

Returning to the main room, I scanned the bedroom, but nothing else caught my attention until my gaze landed on the only picture frame in the whole room atop the table.

Raising a curious brow, I inspected the photograph, but what I saw left me speechless.

Like someone poured a bucket of ice on me right now.

The person in the picture—a very familiar man—brought an unexpected wave of emotions.

The man was the person who had saved me years ago. But what struck me most was seeing him standing beside Nicholas, both of them sharing a wide grin. The realization hit me hard; the man I owed so much to seemed much more connected to Nicholas than I had anticipated.

The shock of this realization made my heart race. I reached for the frame, but in my trembling hands, I accidentally dropped it, the glass shattering upon impact.

“Shit”

I quickly knelt to clean up the broken glass, collecting the shards, even if some brought cuts on my hands. Placing the picture back on the bedside table, I quickly disposed of the glass shards in the trash bin.

As I settled on the edge of the bed, suddenly, I was drained of energy. I knew that the man who saved me from the rogues years ago was a Lycan. But I thought the man was just a random or a regular pack member or warrior but it looks like he wasn't regular at all.

And I can't help but think that he would 100% not think twice about killing me when he found out that the man died from saving someone like me—a spy. That thought was enough to kill me inside, brought ache to my heart to me and to my wolf.

I quickly wipe the tears that escape my eyes, taking a deep breath.

After a few moments, I made an effort to regain composure, deciding to distract myself by freshening up. Retrieving some shirts from Nicholas's closet which looked like a jacket on me, I took a quick bath, using whatever I found in his room.

Moments later, the door swung open, revealing Nicholas while I was sitting still on the edge of the bed, staring at completely nothing.

“Why are you still awake?” he asked, closing the door.

I noticed his eyes going through my body. His jaw clenched for a second before looking away.

Seeing him makes the guilt in my chest intensify. I cleared my throat, gathering myself.

“I.. Uh… I was waiting for you”

He suddenly frowned, looking deeply concerned at me.

"Why do I smell blood?"

He took my hand, inspecting it closely for any sign of injury. His gaze scanned me, searching for any wounds or harm.

"Oh, I accidentally dropped the picture frame. I'm sorry”

He shakes his head as if relieved or something.

"You're an idiot for picking up the glass carelessly,"

"Are you not angry?"

"Why would I be? It's just a frame. I can replace it easily," he replied dismissively, “You should sleep, I'll just take a bath”

I nodded, watching him disappear. A few minutes later, I settled myself on the bed. Despite my efforts to stay awake, exhaustion slowly took over, its weight finally catching up with me until I gave in to the lulling darkness.

Nicholas’s POV

I emerged from the bathroom, towel wrapped around my waist as I dried my hair. Glancing toward the bed, the figure of Florence sleeping peacefully in my bed.

Damn.

I didn't she would look good sleeping on my bed. Now, the regret of making her live in that damned cabin is kicking in when I can make her sleep here in my room and have this view every night and morning.

She was wearing only nothing but my large shirt that reached her slender thighs. Her dark brown hair is beautifully sprawled on the mattress. Her arms are crossed over her chest, making her breasts appear bigger than they are. I lick my lips, seeing the two nipples pierced on the cloth.

It's just a mere sight of her, but I then realize how I instantly feel the addicting and burning desire brewing within me that I never felt before. It's been too long since I had taken her.

As I stared at her, sleeping in my bed made me oddly calm, and so was my wolf. It's like the sound of a wave and the view of the forest wash over me, making my mind at peace.

And no matter how I deny it, Florence is the only person now who can bring me that calmness.

I felt a sudden urge to touch her, but I hesitated, remembering her boundaries. Instead, my hand accidentally brushed against her lips, and I immediately pulled away, cursing under my breath as I began to get dressed.

Approaching the bed to switch off the remaining lamp, I intended to leave Florence to her rest. Yet, just as I reached out, she unexpectedly grasped my arm.

“Sleep…with me” she murmured softly, her eyes remained closed.

The simple plea caught me off guard, stirring an unfamiliar emotion within me.

I stare at her for a second until her hand loosens on me. Shaking my head, I went to my closet and got dressed in sweatpants and a simple white shirt, all while Florence’s sleeping figure and what she said was playing in my mind.

I quietly went outside, shutting the door as quietly as possible. Hands in my pocket and lost in thought, I made my way to my office when I crossed paths with my Beta—Clifford.

"Hey, Clifford”

Clifford sighed as if he knew what I was about to do, "Boss, you should really get some rest,"

"I'll just sign a few papers and hit the sack afterward. You should do the same."

"Wow, that's a first. You actually agreed to rest when I Can't count how many times I reminded you to do that for the past weeks. Is it because Florence is waiting for you?"

I shook my head. "Nah, she's already asleep."

“Make sure to take a rest today, Alpha. You need that”

“You should say the same to yourself, man”

“My rest is better than yours” He bowed at me with a grin, “Have a good night then with Florence, Alpha”

“Shut up, Clifford”

Clifford chuckled and moved past me, giving me a pat on the back while I headed to my office.

But….

It had been about an hour since I left my office. As I returned to my room, I opted not to switch on the lights. Fatigue and weariness cling to every part of my body. I settled onto the bed with a sigh, keeping a cautious distance from Florence.

I sank onto the bed, trying to maintain a respectable distance from Florence, even though every fiber of my being wanted to be closer. It was like some magnetic force pulling me in.

Out of the blue, she shifted in her sleep and reached out, wrapping her arms around my side. Caught off guard, I froze for a moment. However, unknowingly, it brought a faint smile to my face.

I discovered something about her tonight—she was clingy when she slept. And it was something……

Without really thinking, I instinctively put my arms around her waist, pulling her close until her head rested on my chest. Her addictive scent filled the air—like a fresh, soothing flower that wrapped around me like a cozy blanket.

For the first time in what felt like forever, I found contentment and calmness in my own bed. It's funny how a simple moment like that can change the whole vibe of the night.
