After the Affair: Falling into a Billionaire's Arms Chapter 20
George knew he couldn't let Louisa's hard work go down the drain; he had to patch things up with her.
He jumped right into action.
But by the time they wrapped up their work and headed over to the marketing department, the place was deserted.
Louisa, thinking it might be her last chance to see everyone, decided to take the team out for dinner.
George's face turned sour. Louisa was making decisions on her own again without giving him a heads-up?
...
At Louisa's dinner, the vibe was upbeat.
Still, there was a touch of sadness in everyone's eyes.
Louisa quipped, "What's the deal, guys? I treat you to the seafood feast you've been dreaming about, and you're still not smiling?"
After a moment of silence, someone asked, "Ms. Forbes, are you really not coming back?"
"All good things must come to an end. We all have to go our separate ways eventually," Louisa replied.
"Then, Ms. Forbes, wherever you go, can you take me with you?"
"Yeah, Ms. Forbes, take me too."
Everyone chimed in.
Louisa was torn about leaving them; they were her team, her last bit of warmth at the Capulet Group.
She didn't want to make a hasty decision that would impact them, so she laid it out, "You've all worked hard at the Capulet Group, each of you has projects, and you earn good bonuses every month. Walking away from all that would be a waste, wouldn't it?
"Plus, starting fresh somewhere else, would the modest salary be enough to support your families?"
The crowd fell silent. It was a tough reality.
It wasn't until the end of the dinner that someone remembered to ask, "So, Ms. Forbes, where are you planning to go?"
"Haven't decided yet."
Louisa didn't mention the Tudor Group.
After all, her sudden move to the Capulet Group had disrupted the Tudor Group's project, and whether she could keep that job was still up in the air.
Someone suggested, "Ms. Forbes, have you thought about the Tudor Group? In Silverlight City, they're in the same field as us, but better in some ways."
"Yeah, I heard the CEO of the Tudor Group is super handsome. Working with a boss like that would be a pleasure just to look at."
The conversation drifted back to Julian.
Louisa stayed quiet. She remembered she needed to explain her situation to Julian.
So she pulled out her phone and shot him a message.
She kept it simple: [I can't make it for now.]
The prestigious Tudor Group, where people would do anything to get in, and she was bailing on them.
She was ready to be fired.
But his reply came quickly: [Project investments take time. Handle the Capulet Group's matters first, no rush.]
Louisa was genuinely shocked. Did this mean he was holding her position for her?
A thought crossed her mind, and she asked him, [Did you foresee the issues at the Capulet Group?]
Julian replied with just one word: [Yes.]
Louisa was stunned.
Was Julian some kind of genius?
He had seen it all coming and made the best call for her, saving her a ton of hassle.
Feeling a warmth spread through her, she texted back, [Thanks, Mr. Tudor. I won't let you down.]
She promised herself she'd work hard, earn more, and bring more value to the company to repay his kindness.
She made a silent vow.
His response was quick: [Noted.]
A simple, understated message, but Louisa could almost feel his smile through the screen.
Why did his words feel a bit off?
On the other end, Julian's lips curled into a barely noticeable smile as he read their last exchange.
Teddy noticed. He was surprised, eyes wide. The boss had been smiling more lately.
And using his phone during overtime?
That wasn't like Julian at all.
Curious, he wanted to see what was on that phone.
Julian shot him a cold look. "Are you free?"
"No, no, I'm not free, not at all." Afraid of being assigned more work, Teddy quickly said, "I wanted to ask about the lawsuit against David. His wife has been causing a fuss, trying to get him out on bail. What's your take on it?"
He thought that since David was from the Taylor family and the assault was only attempted, maybe a lesson would suffice.
But Julian's icy stare cut him off, his deep voice carried a chilling authority. "Do I need to teach you how to do your job?"
Teddy shivered involuntarily and quickly said, "I understand."
...
Meanwhile, Louisa and her colleagues had finished their meal and were getting ready to leave.
Everyone had drunk quite a bit, standing around in a tipsy state, waiting for cabs or calling for rides.
Someone asked Louisa, "Ms. Forbes, how are you getting home?"
Louisa replied, "I didn't drink, so I can drive myself."
Everyone dispersed. She headed towards her car.
Suddenly, a car horn honked from the roadside.
Louisa looked over; it was George.
He had been waiting there for who knows how long, looking a bit impatient. "Get in!"
Louisa didn't want to get in his car.
Jared quickly came over and took her car keys. "Mrs. Capulet, I'll drive your car back. You should go home with Mr. Capulet. He's been waiting for you a long time."
Louisa had no choice but to get in his car.
"Why didn't you tell me about the dinner?"
"I forgot." Her tone was nonchalant.
George held back his frustration and instead placed an elegant shopping bag on her lap.
"Latest from Cartier, for you."
Louisa opened it to find two boxes, one with a necklace and the other with earrings.
She glanced at them briefly and put them back, her face expressionless.
George frowned. "Don't like them?"
