After the Affair: Falling into a Billionaire's Arms Chapter 25
The pain hit her hard, and she winced.
George noticed and his eyes widened in concern. "Are you okay?"
He reached out to help her but hesitated, afraid of causing her more pain.
Louisa gritted her teeth, trying to bear it. She didn't want to suffer any more than she had to, so she stopped at the bottom of the stairs and spoke in a calm but weary voice, "What do you want, George? Just say it all at once."
There was a brief silence before he finally said, "Vivian and I..." He wanted to say there was nothing.
But seeing Louisa's cold, knowing eyes, he sighed in defeat. "Yes, I admit it. I do find her cute and likable, and I did have a moment of feeling something, but the person I love the most is you. That has never changed."
Louisa laughed bitterly. "Your love is really disgusting and cheap."
"Louisa!" He called her name sharply. "Don't mock me. Yes, I had a moment of feeling something for her, but nothing happened between us. It was just because her brother wanted her to gain some experience with me.
"Our company and the Price Group are about to sign a contract. The Price family made a small request. Do you think I could refuse?
"Believe me, it was all just an act with her."
Louisa nodded. "If everything is for the company, why not make the act real?"
"What do you mean?"
"She's the Price family's daughter. She can help you a lot in your career. Why not just divorce me and be with her?"
At that moment, she genuinely hoped he would agree to the divorce.
That way, she wouldn't have to wait those seventeen days.
"What nonsense are you talking about?" George glared at her. "Do I need to rely on a woman to get ahead?"
"Don't you?" Louisa chuckled, shattering his pretense.
George was taken aback, his face darkening.
After a moment, he spoke in a stern tone, "Forget about the divorce. It's not happening. I promise you, this won't happen again. Once we sign the contract with the Price Group and the project is underway, I'll keep my distance from her and make our relationship public."
Though she never said it, he knew that their secret marriage had always been a sore point for her.
He knew she wanted their relationship to be public.
Louisa nodded. "Do whatever you want. I'm tired. I'm going to rest."
Seeing the life drain from her face, George felt a bit relieved and even managed a small smile.
He knew she was just upset about Vivian and throwing a tantrum.
Watching her struggle up the stairs, he scooped her up. "I'll take you up."
He carried her to the master bedroom.
With her injuries, she couldn't fight back and ended up sleeping in the master bedroom.
The next day, he didn't rush to work. He waited for her to wake up.
She had gotten used to being alone these days. Seeing him first thing in the morning felt strange.
But she didn't realize how alluring she looked, waking up with those dazed, vulnerable eyes.
He leaned in to kiss her.
She turned away. "I haven't brushed my teeth."
But George could tell she was still resisting him.
He was annoyed but didn't want to upset her further.
He held back his temper. "I'm not going to the office today. I'll stay home with you."
"No need."
She'd be more comfortable without him around.
George was about to say something when his phone rang. It was Vivian.
He looked embarrassed and was about to hang up.
Louisa got out of bed and left the master bedroom, heading to her own room.
George finally answered the call. "What's up?"
"George, you need to come to the office. My brother's here."
"Got it."
Yesterday at the office, Vivian had been upset, and her brother wouldn't let it go.
George quickly got ready.
Before leaving, he told Louisa, "There's something at the office. I'll be back. Call me if you need anything."
"Okay," she responded.
Hearing the door close downstairs, she looked at the paper calendar on the nightstand. After a moment, she tore off the "17."
Great, only 16 days left.
...
Meanwhile, George arrived at the Capulet Group.
Entering his office, he saw Caden sitting on the couch, looking grim.
"Why are you here so early?" George asked casually.
Caden stood up angrily. "I entrusted my sister to you, and you let her get bullied in your office? Don't you think you owe me an explanation?"
George nodded. "I didn't take good care of her. I'm sorry."
He didn't throw Louisa under the bus, taking the blame himself.
Vivian, hearing his nonchalant tone, was furious. "George, it's not your fault. Why are you apologizing?"
She turned to her brother. "Caden, don't blame George. It's that vicious woman Louisa. She's just a secretary, but she barged into George's office, called me names, and hit me."
Caden patted her hand reassuringly and looked at George. "Since this started because of her, hand her over. I won't allow anyone to bully my sister!"
"Exactly!" Vivian, emboldened, demanded, "That wretched woman, that old hag, she dared to hit me. I want her to kneel and apologize, and I want to hit her back tenfold until she begs for mercy!"
George's face turned cold, and he refused flatly, "That's not happening!"
"Why not?" Vivian shrieked.
Caden's face darkened as he stared at George. "She's just a secretary. Are you really going to jeopardize our families' relationship and cooperation over her?"
