After the Affair: Falling into a Billionaire's Arms Chapter 24
Louisa hadn't even spoken yet when Flora chimed in, "Louisa, whatever you decide to do, we've got your back. No questions asked."
Louisa felt a warmth in her heart and smiled. "It's not like I just found out he's been cheating. I chose this way because I don't want to get tangled up with them anymore.
"Honestly, I never thought I'd lose my cool like that, fighting in the office. That's not me.
"I don't want to turn into a crazy person over a guy who's rotten to the core.
"All I want now is to get through these next seventeen days and start my new life, never seeing him again."
She lowered her head and continued eating, her expression calm throughout.
But Flora and Sadie could still see the fleeting pain in her eyes.
Ten years of youth, ten years of love, ending like this—how could she be truly at peace?
Sadie said, "But I don't think George will let go that easily."
Flora snapped, "What's he gonna do? Expect Louisa to stay home cooking and cleaning while he parties and cheats? He's dreaming!"
Sadie was about to say something when her phone rang. It was George.
She glanced at Louisa, who focused on her food.
Not wanting to ruin Louisa's mood, Sadie turned off her phone.
Then George called Flora's phone.
Flora, unlike the other two, couldn't keep her cool. Seeing George's name made her blood boil.
She answered and immediately started yelling, "George, can't you take a hint? Louisa's out of your life. You and that skank can do whatever you want, just leave Louisa alone!"
George, realizing they were together, said in a low voice, "Put her on the phone."
"She's not here!" Flora lied without hesitation.
"Put her on the phone," he repeated firmly.
Flora got even angrier at his demanding tone. "George, why do you think Louisa's with me? You think she has no one else, so you can treat her like crap? Well, guess what? Sadie and I are her family now. You mess with her, you mess with us!"
George, losing patience, said, "I'm telling you one last time, put her on the phone, or else—"
"Or else what? You gonna threaten me?" Flora shot back, unafraid.
Louisa, hearing the conversation, didn't want her friends to suffer because of her. She reached out calmly, "Give me the phone. I'll talk to him."
Flora hesitated but handed it over.
Louisa took the phone and cut straight to the point, "I'll be back tomorrow. Stop calling."
She was about to hang up when George quickly said, "Don't hang up."
Louisa's voice was cold, "What do you want?"
George's tone softened, "Send me your location. I'll come get you. You're hurt, right?"
Louisa laughed bitterly, "George, let's not pretend you care. It's disgusting."
"I didn't mean to hit you today. It was an emergency, I wasn't thinking." His voice was gentler now. "Let's talk at home. Tell me where you are, I'll come get you."
"I said, I'll be back tomorrow."
"No, you need to come back today, or I'll search all of Silverlight City to find you." His tone was firm.
Louisa was silent for a moment. She knew George could go crazy and turn the city upside down looking for her. She didn't want to expose her new place.
Finally, she gave in.
Flora was about to head home and offered to drop her off.
On the way, Flora ranted, "That jerk cheats on you, hits you, and still acts like he's in charge. His control issues are scary. If he finds out you tricked him into signing the divorce papers, he might kill you."
Louisa joked, "Good point. Maybe I should keep some poison handy, just in case."
When they reached Louisa's place, Flora reminded her, "Call me if anything happens, okay?"
"Don't worry, I'm not a pushover."
Flora nodded, and they parted ways. Louisa went inside.
...
Hearing the door unlock, George, who was sitting on the couch, immediately got up, looking anxious.
Louisa ignored him and started changing her shoes.
As she bent down, she accidentally pulled at her injury, wincing and holding her lower back.
George quickly brought her slippers and tried to help her.
Louisa recoiled, "Don't touch me."
She preferred to lean on the entryway cabinet, enduring the pain, rather than let him help.
George felt uneasy but didn't want to upset her further now that she was back.
As she walked into the living room, he followed, trying to explain, "I really didn't mean to hit you today. If you want, you can hit me back."
He watched her reaction closely.
Louisa gave him a cold look, "What good would that do?"
A dog bites you, you don't bite back, especially not a dog you've already discarded.
She didn't want to talk to him anymore and headed upstairs.
"Can we just talk, Louisa? Please?" George, losing patience, grabbed her arm.
Already weak, Louisa's lower back hit the stair railing hard.
