After the Affair: Falling into a Billionaire's Arms Chapter 69

Flora explained, "After your fever broke around dawn, Teddy called Sadie to come let you in. Since I was staying at Sadie's place last night, we both came up."

"Where's Sadie now?" Louisa glanced around, seeing no sign of her friend.

Flora gave her a strange look. "You really don't remember anything from last night, do you? You sent George, Hazel, and Vivian to the detention center. Their families' lawyers will definitely be trying to bail them out, so Sadie left early to handle it.

"Those bastards—how dare they do this to you! We're not letting them off easy. They deserve to rot in jail!"

Meanwhile, at the police station, George sat at a table with six photographs laid out before him—the six people who had assaulted Louisa two nights ago. Five men and one female server, each with shifty, repulsive features like rats from a sewer.

George closed his eyes in pain. He couldn't bear imagining what would have happened if Louisa had truly been violated by these people. How desperate and broken must she have felt that night?

"Your wife states that the female server injected her with anesthesia first, dragged her into a room, and she lost consciousness," the officer explained.

"When she woke up, she discovered she'd been injected with another drug and found poison placed beside her. She was disoriented but managed to call you for help. Your mistress, Vivian Price, answered."

"Vivian claimed that you two conspired to harm your wife. Your wife has a recording as evidence. Would you like to hear it?"

The officer pressed play. George had already heard it at the gala—those venomous words, that devastating experience. Each syllable had stabbed his heart like a knife.

Hearing it again was still unbearable. He turned away, fighting back tears that eventually streamed down his face anyway.

The officer, having seen all kinds of criminals, knew these tears could be from genuine pain or mere regret.

He remained unmoved, even looking at George with contempt. "Tell us why you conspired with your mistress to harm your wife."

"I didn't." Unlike other criminals who might protest their innocence loudly, George just shook his head in anguish.

"My wife and I have been together since college. We married right after graduation and have always been deeply in love. Even when I gave in to temptation and had an affair, I still loved my wife. I would never do this to her—I couldn't bear to."

His voice was low, heavy, and pained.

"We've already investigated that aspect and confirmed what you're saying," the officer continued. "However, our team also discovered that your company, the Capulet Group, has a collaborative project with the Price family's Price Group.

"This project is in crisis, and the only solution appeared to be a marriage alliance between the families. Isn't that right?"

George nodded. "That's true, but I refused. I told both Caden and my mother that I wouldn't divorce or agree to such an arrangement."

The officer believed this part. Their investigation had revealed George to be stubbornly principled. The Capulet Group had grown to its current status without him ever being coerced or threatened into making decisions. In this regard, he had maintained his integrity.

"Then why did you let your mistress answer your wife's call? Why was your phone in her possession?" the officer pressed.

"The project was in trouble. I was busy in meetings. Vivian offered to manage my phone, so I gave it to her," George explained.

"You gave something as private as your phone to your mistress?" The officer clearly didn't buy this casual explanation.

George nodded, his face ashen. "Vivian isn't just my mistress; she's also one of my assistants who handles some of my work matters.

"We've been close lately with no secrets between us, so I didn't think much of it. You can verify this with my secretary and special assistant."

"Rest assured, we'll investigate and gather evidence," the officer replied.

In two other rooms, Vivian and Hazel were also being questioned.

Vivian pushed all blame onto Hazel, but when asked if George knew about the plan, she immediately denied it, passionately insisting he had nothing to do with any of it.

She claimed she only said those things on the phone to make Louisa give up hope and drive a wedge between the couple. Her entire demeanor screamed "everyone else can die, but my beloved George must be protected"—the act of a devoted lover.

The female officer questioning her sneered. It was hard to tell if Vivian was being foolish or just plain stupid.

As for Hazel, she had maintained her dignity for most of her life. Even during the Capulet family's lowest times, she had preserved her elegant facade. She had never faced anything so distasteful, let alone a police station.

Unlike Vivian, she didn't have as many malicious intentions, so she answered the police questions honestly, confessing to what she had done.

However, she claimed she only wanted Vivian to teach Louisa a lesson and didn't know Vivian's specific plans. The officer didn't believe her and informed her that Vivian had shifted all blame to her.

Even though she had already experienced this betrayal at the gala, she still trembled with rage. She never imagined that a Price family daughter, who appeared obedient and filial, could harbor such venom.

She had thought Vivian would make a good daughter-in-law, and now she regretted it bitterly, wishing she could tear Vivian to pieces.

How could such a woman ever be worthy of the Capulet family? Vivian would never marry into the Capulet family—not in this lifetime!

The female officer listened to her furious cursing with inward contempt. 'You find your carefully selected daughter-in-law horrible, but how well did you treat your actual daughter-in-law?'

Now both mother and son were in detention, still thinking their family name was so noble. What kind, intelligent person would willingly join such a family?

After the interrogations concluded, the lawyers from both the Capulet Group and the Price Group arrived, along with the entire Price family, all intent on bailing out the three detainees.

Sadie had anticipated this. She had arrived at the police station early, engaging with both legal teams.

She had also submitted evidence of Hazel and Vivian's crimes to the police and expressed the victim's intention to pursue the case to the fullest extent.

However, she faced two powerful legal teams now working in unison. Even with solid evidence, she was somewhat overwhelmed.

During a break, she called Louisa.
