After the Affair: Falling into a Billionaire's Arms Chapter 74

Louisa's words left George's face ashen, each syllable feeling like a knife stabbing deep into his heart.

She had never spoken to him like this before. Even when his mother had insisted on the prenuptial agreement, she hadn't objected—she'd simply signed without a word.

Only now, hearing her bring it up, did he realize how deeply he had hurt her, in so many ways.

After a long moment, he finally managed to explain, "Honey, believe me, I've never stopped loving you. You're the only one in my heart."

"Really?" She smiled faintly. If she were the only one in his heart, would he have cheated?

Her smile made his heart ache terribly. Lying to her face was pointless.

"I admit," he conceded, "lately I've felt some... boredom between us. When Vivian appeared, I was unconsciously attracted to her, looking for excitement. But I swear, you're the one I love most. I never planned to be with her.

"As for the Capulet Group and Price Group collaboration—if it fails, it fails. The Capulet Group won't go bankrupt over one project.

"And my mother? Let her say what she wants. You don't have to deal with her. If you don't want to see her, don't. She can't do anything about it."

Little did he know, his self-important promises only made Louisa laugh out loud. "George, have you forgotten? All the pain you've caused me this past month was because of your project with the Price Group. You made me suffer repeatedly for this project, and now you say 'if it fails, it fails'? What then?

"Am I supposed to bear all the blame?"

Her final question came with a suddenly sharp tone.

George quickly responded, "No, I'm not asking you to take the blame..."

He didn't know how to explain himself anymore. She had always been perceptive about business matters, able to foresee the consequences of every action.

When she posed that final, soul-searching question, he instinctively fell silent.

After a while, he asked, "What do you want me to do?" Whatever she asked, he would do it for her.

Louisa gave a cold laugh. "I want a divorce."

Without hesitation, George replied, "No. That's the one thing I won't agree to."

Louisa was speechless, unable to understand what he was holding onto. She shouldn't have come today. Not wanting to say another word to him, she stood to leave.

Seeing this, George hurriedly followed her. "Honey—"

"I told you, stop calling me that," she cut him off harshly.

"George, whether you agree or not, this divorce is happening. So stop calling me over. I won't believe a single word you say anymore. Remember—five days from now, the 24th at 9 AM, at the courthouse. Otherwise, I'll sue for divorce."

Her words were firm and final as she walked away without looking back.

George watched her retreating figure and closed his eyes in pain. But he couldn't bring himself to divorce her. He wouldn't do it.

He couldn't believe that their ten years together could end just like that. She was only angry about his affair with Vivian, he told himself. He was confident he could win her back.

With renewed determination, he returned inside, picked up his phone, and called Jared, "Find out where Louisa is living right now."

Louisa took a taxi home, still fuming from George's stubborn refusal to face reality.

That evening, Sadie came directly to Louisa's place after work, bringing dinner for two.

Louisa's gloomy mood lightened at the sight of her. "You don't even go home after work anymore, coming straight here instead?"

"Of course," Sadie replied. "Eating alone was so lonely before. Now that you've moved here, we can share meals together. Go wash your hands—dinner's ready."

She set down her bag and the food, then headed to the bathroom, completely at ease as if in her own home.

During dinner, Louisa told her about the day's events.

Without hesitation, Sadie responded, "Don't worry about this anymore. Don't waste your emotions on that jerk. Leave the rest to me—I'll handle everything."

"That would be great. Thanks for the trouble."

"What trouble? This is literally my job," Sadie replied.

Louisa nodded. She truly didn't want to deal with George anymore. Thankfully, Sadie was a lawyer who had seen plenty of difficult clients and would have more strategies than she did.

Louisa decided to let Sadie handle everything while she focused on returning to normal work and life.

The next morning, she woke up early, giving herself plenty of time to make a simple breakfast before going upstairs to change.

She wasn't sure what to expect on her first day at the new job, but she could imagine it wouldn't be easy.

She put on gray pants with a pinstriped shirt tucked in, topped with a white blazer. Looking in the mirror, she adjusted the collar and cuffs, then added a silver watch and some silver accessories.

The overall look was professional yet approachable—competent with a touch of softness that wasn't overly assertive.

Finally, she put on white shoes, grabbed her bag, and headed out.

She thought she had allowed plenty of time, but when she tried to get a taxi, she discovered the rush hour traffic would make her late. The ride-sharing app showed over thirty people in queue—at least a twenty-minute wait.

And there were no taxis in sight. In this upscale neighborhood where everyone owned cars, taxis rarely came by.

Plus, she occasionally had to decline approaches from neighbors or passersby trying to strike up conversations.

Taking out her phone, she was about to call Sadie to see if she could get a ride, but before she could dial, a black Maybach pulled up in front of her.
