After the Affair: Falling into a Billionaire's Arms Chapter 29
"Alright, a dinner it is," Julian said, letting go.
Louisa didn't catch what he said; her focus was entirely on the ancient book in her hands. Her eyes sparkled as she gently caressed it like it was a precious treasure.
Julian watched her, a slight smile playing on his lips.
A serene atmosphere enveloped them.
A series of loud, angry honks suddenly shattered the peace. Louisa jumped and looked out the window.
Julian followed her gaze. It was George.
In the quiet night, their intense stares clashed.
One was furious while the other was cold as ice.
But Julian's words to Louisa were gentle. "You should go back."
Louisa nodded, thanked him again, and got out of the car.
George also got out, glaring at her with eyes blazing with anger.
Louisa pretended not to see him and walked towards the house.
George followed suit.
As they entered, he slammed the door shut.
"Louisa, what the hell is this?"
"What do you mean?" Louisa shot him a cold glance.
"Why were you at the auction? What's going on with you and Julian?"
"Nothing." She brushed him off and started to head upstairs.
But George wasn't having it. He stormed over, snatched the book from her hands, and glared at her. "Nothing, huh? Then why would he give you something so expensive? If you wanted it, why didn't you tell me? Wouldn't I buy it for you?"
In his rage, he tore the book apart.
It was an old, fragile book, and it didn't take much for him to rip it to shreds.
He tossed the pieces into the air, the yellowed pages fluttering around Louisa like snowflakes.
Louisa was stunned. A book worth two million dollars, and he just tore it up?
She was furious and shoved him. "George, are you crazy? I was going to return that!"
Ignoring him, she grabbed a clean bag and started picking up the pieces.
George stood at the top of the stairs, looking down at her as she gathered the fragments.
His hands trembled with anger. "You care so much about something he gave you, and you say there's nothing between you? Louisa, are you trying to piss me off?"
Louisa didn't respond. Her disgust when she caught him cheating now turned to pure hatred.
After a while, she finished collecting the pieces and headed upstairs.
As she passed him, she stopped. "George, your heart is so dirty that you see everything as dirty. Julian isn't like you. He values people, values my talent. I'm trying to piss you off with him? Do you think you're even worth it?"
Her words completely enraged George.
He glared at her back. "Louisa, you better explain yourself!"
Louisa didn't even look back as she went upstairs.
George, in his fury, punched the banister.
Not long after, Louisa heard him leave, slamming the door behind him.
Her heart felt nothing.
She locked her door, took out some clear tape, and sat at her desk, piecing the book back together.
By the time she finished, it was morning.
She put the book away, took a shower, and went to bed.
The next day, she took out a new notebook and started copying the book by hand.
The book was now a mess of tape and torn pages, but she had promised to return it.
For the next few days, she locked herself in her room, focused on her work.
She only went downstairs to get food, completely ignoring George when she saw him.
George was still angry, so he didn't talk to her either.
Everyone at the Capulet Group knew the boss was in a terrible mood.
Every department head had been on the receiving end of his temper.
Even the secretaries were too scared to approach him.
One day, they needed him to sign a contract. The secretaries pushed the task onto each other, none of them daring to go in.
Finally, the task fell on Jared, who was equally scared.
In fact, as George's personal assistant, he had it the worst.
While they were at a standstill, Vivian came bouncing in, munching on a bag of chips.
She volunteered to take the contract in.
George was working, head down, and barked without looking up, "Get out and knock!"
Vivian jumped, looking hurt. "George, I'm just bringing you some documents. Why are you so mad?"
George looked up, his anger easing a bit, but his tone was still cold. "What are you doing here?"
"I missed you," she replied with a bright grin.
She put the documents on his desk and tried to sit on his lap.
He pushed her away, irritated. "I'm not in the mood."
"What's wrong?" Vivian pouted.
"Go get Jared."
"Okay." Vivian obediently left.
Jared came in.
George was about to speak when he saw Vivian sitting on the couch, eating chips.
"Vivian, leave."
Vivian was even more upset. He had to talk behind her back?
But seeing his cold, scary expression, she didn't dare argue and left.
George then told Jared, "Set up a meeting with Julian from the Tudor Group."
Jared was puzzled. "We don't have any business with them. What's the reason for the meeting?"
George gritted his teeth. "To settle a debt."
Jared didn't know when his boss had borrowed money from Julian, but he quickly made the arrangements.
The Tudor Group's response was swift. Teddy relayed, "Mr. Tudor says Mr. Capulet doesn't owe us anything."
George didn't know if Julian was playing dumb or what.
He told Jared, "Tell them Louisa is my woman. If she wants something, I'll buy it for her. Thanks for the offer."
Julian's reply was blunt. "Whoever owes, pays."
In other words, their business was none of George's.
George was so angry he smashed a ceramic cup on his desk.
Jared was startled and quickly tried to calm him down. "Mr. Capulet, don't worry. I think Mrs. Capulet and Mr. Tudor aren't what you think. She's probably just mad about your affair. Maybe you should try to make it up to her?"
