After the Affair: Falling into a Billionaire's Arms Chapter 52
Dawnlight Club was a fancy place, beautiful but pretty far from the city. It was usually quiet except on holidays.
Louisa stayed silent, trying to figure out Hazel's intentions.
Hazel, getting impatient, snapped, "I'll wait until eleven. If you don't show up, we'll stick to the $2 billion compensation we agreed on. Forget about the extra one billion; that contract will be void."
She hung up without waiting for Louisa's response.
Louisa tossed her phone aside and lay back on her bed, staring at the ceiling, deep in thought.
She and Hazel never got along.
From the first time George brought her to the Capulet Manor before they got married, Hazel had been critical, looking down on her for not having a prestigious family background, thinking she wasn't good enough for their fallen Capulet family.
Even after she married George, Hazel wouldn't let her live in the Capulet Manor.
Every holiday visit was filled with Hazel's sarcastic remarks.
It was clear Hazel was just waiting for her and George to divorce.
Other than that, Hazel hadn't done much else, except for recently smearing her reputation.
This time, Hazel probably just wanted to warn her or see if she could negotiate a lower price.
But did she really need to go?
Louisa believed that even if she didn't go, Hazel wouldn't dare do anything drastic.
Just then, she heard the sound of wheels outside.
It wasn't loud enough to disturb her, but it was heavy and muffled, like something heavy was being moved.
Curious, Louisa went downstairs and opened the door.
She saw a few people pushing a cart loaded with items into her neighbor's place.
One of them noticed her and quickly said, "Miss, did we disturb you?"
"No, it's fine." Louisa shook her head, glancing at the luxury items being moved, all top-tier brands.
She instinctively looked over at her neighbor's place. The bright living room, the large curved floor-to-ceiling windows, the layout was completely different from hers, much larger and tastefully decorated.
The items being moved, just the set of tableware alone, must have cost millions.
With that kind of money, shouldn't they be living in a mansion? Why move into an apartment?
Rich people sure have strange ideas.
The head butler noticed her staring and, thinking she was worried, added, "We'll be done soon, just one more trip. We'll keep it as quiet as possible."
Louisa couldn't help but smile. Even the servants of rich families were so polite?
She shook her head and said, "It's daytime, not night. Move as you please."
She smiled politely and turned to go back inside.
The head butler called out again, "By the way, Miss, just a heads up, I passed by the property management office earlier. They said there will be a water and power outage in two hours. The elevator will be out too, and it's not easy going up and down from the 17th floor. You might want to prepare."
Louisa nodded. "Thanks."
Back inside, she checked her phone and saw the notice from the property management in the residents' group chat.
Looks like staying home today wasn't an option. Still, she didn't plan to meet Hazel.
She had just moved in and still needed to buy a lot of things for her place.
She decided to go to the supermarket and maybe browse a bookstore.
After a quick shower and a change of clothes, she headed out.
But as soon as she stepped out of the building, two sharply dressed men blocked her path.
She recognized them; they were bodyguards from the Capulet Manor.
They stood expressionless, their voices cold, "Mrs. Louisa Capulet, Mrs. Hazel Capulet is waiting for you at the club. Please come with us."
With that, they gestured towards the car.
Louisa glanced at the car and subtly looked around, hoping for a way out.
But these were trained bodyguards.
Sensing her thoughts, one of them said, "Mrs. Louisa Capulet, it's best if you cooperate. Mrs. Hazel Capulet just wants to talk. Even if you make a scene, no one will interfere. It's a family matter, after all."
Louisa stayed silent.
Given the situation, there was no easy escape.
Fortunately, after the incident with David, she always carried a knife and a recording device in her bag, ready for anything.
She nodded coldly. "Lead the way."
They arrived at Dawnlight Club just before eleven.
The Capulet family driver was waiting outside.
He nodded to the bodyguards and respectfully extended his hand to Louisa, "Mrs. Louisa Capulet, Mrs. Hazel Capulet is waiting for you. Please follow me."
Louisa said nothing and followed him inside.
After a few turns in the hallway, the driver stopped at a private room and opened the door. "Mrs. Louisa Capulet, please."
Louisa walked in.
The room was a lavishly decorated café, filled with the aroma of coffee and aromatherapy.
Hazel, in a purple silk evening gown, sat at a table sipping coffee, looking every bit the picture of elegance.
Seeing Louisa, she gave a disdainful look and said, "Sit."
Louisa, unimpressed by Hazel's pretentiousness, smirked and sat down, getting straight to the point, "Didn't you want me to sign an updated contract? Where is it?"
"What's the rush? Let's talk over coffee."
Hazel gestured to the cup in front of Louisa.
Louisa glanced at it. It looked like a normal cup of coffee.
She chuckled, "Poisoned, is it?"
Hazel's expression twisted. "Then just don't drink it."
Louisa nodded. "Yeah, probably best not to."
Hazel sneered, "Typical of someone from a small family, so petty and unsophisticated."
Louisa laughed, "Oh, you're so noble! So noble that you had me kidnapped? So noble that you publicly smeared my name? Is this the kind of class your high society has?"
