Divorced But Never Letting Go Chapter 104
CYRIL
“Where am I?” I asked rhetorically, rubbing my blurry eyes.
I caressed my head in pain and glanced around to confirm my surroundings. Still, I couldn't recall how I had ended up in a hotel room.
The last thing I remembered was being bundled out of Adrian's party like an intruder.
My back still ached from the beating I had received at the hands of Adrian's guards.
“What was I thinking? When did I suddenly become a chronic drunk?” I questioned my decision to attack Olivia. That was when I realized I was the biggest fool on earth.
It wasn't my intention to appear drunk at that party. It was all Rene's idea.
After she narrated how Olivia and Kate had inflicted so much pain on her, I decided to fight for her.
I never realized I was making the biggest mistake of my life.
In the process of trying to unravel the truth, I got a sudden call from my grandma.
It came as a shock because I couldn't recall the last time she had reached out to me.
I wasn’t her favorite grandson. She had always preferred the others over me.
They always danced to her tune, unlike me, who could be pretty annoying at times.
“Hi, Granny. How are you doing?” I feigned a baritone voice.
I didn’t want her to have the slightest idea that I was weak.
As much as we were always at loggerheads, she understood me better than anyone else in the world. It was only a matter of time before she discovered I was drunk.
“Why do you sound so intoxicated? Have you been drinking lately? Where the hell are you right now?” she scolded me over the phone.
It was one of the reasons I didn't enjoy talking to her. It would have been worse if she were seated next to me.
“Intoxicated? Nah! I don’t think so. I’m just tired from work. Running the company isn’t for the faint-hearted,” I lied.
I even spiced up the conversation with some comic relief, hoping to make her digress from the topic.
“Don’t do this, Cyril. You suck at lying. We both know Olivia runs the company, not you. All you do is laze around. If it weren’t for her hard work, the company would have gone bankrupt,” she blurted out.
Quite typical of my grandmother.
She always had to rub it in my face at the slightest provocation.
I couldn't even defend myself, knowing she was right.
“Can we not talk about Olivia now? This isn’t a good time. Why did you call?” I flared up.
Although I was aware of Olivia’s prowess, I still hated being reminded of it every damn time. And that’s exactly what my grandma was good at.
“Olivia was here a while ago,” she revealed.
Instantly, I tossed off the bed. “What did you two discuss?”
The sharp pain in my head suddenly disappeared, and I was back to my normal self again.
It was safe to say I was still obsessed with Olivia's affairs, even though I didn't want her anymore.
“Why are you so suddenly interested in Olivia’s affairs? I thought you never loved her?” she teased.
I became more confused than before. A negative feeling gnawed at me about Olivia’s visit to the mansion.
It wasn’t a coincidence that she visited my family less than 24 hours after our outburst at Adrian’s party.
“Can you stop acting like a child and let me talk? You’re beginning to sound like a broken record,” she cautioned me.
I promised her I was calm, but in reality, I wasn’t. Curiosity had taken the best of me.
“I told your wife that your marriage needs to last another five years, and she wasn’t happy about it. So she decided to file for a divorce. Meaning, she’s sick and tired of the marriage,” my grandma revealed.
I was having mixed reactions.
I didn’t know whether to react to Olivia wanting a divorce or my grandma insisting the marriage should last five more years.
Suddenly, Rene showed up out of nowhere with a man dressed in a lab coat, nearly freaking me out.
“Are you there? What do you think? If you ask me, I think we should let her go. We’ll find someone better to accept the agreement,” my grandma suggested.
I had my eyes locked on Rene while still on the phone with my grandma.
I wasn’t even paying attention to her anymore. Rene’s arrival had further complicated my situation.
“Can I talk to you later? I’ve got an emergency right now,” I quickly ended the call to tackle the problem with Rene.
“What are you doing here? And who’s this?” I asked.
I went from being interrogated by my grandma to wearing the garment of confusion that Rene’s arrival had brought.
“What sort of question is that? I brought you here after you were thrown out of Adrian’s party. They dumped you in a gutter. Luckily for you, I was there to rescue you. I had you cleaned up and changed your outfit,” Rene explained.
I did a quick check on my outfit and realized it was different from what I had worn to Adrian’s party.
“And this? Who is he?” I pointed at the young man in a lab coat.
“Oh, that’s Doctor Marcus. You’ve been sleeping since yesterday. I thought you were unconscious, so I had to invite him over,” she said.
“Unconscious?” I mumbled in disbelief. I couldn’t recall the last time I had gotten that drunk.
“As you can see, I’m fully awake now. Can you please ask him to leave already? His presence won’t be needed here anymore,” I commanded.
Rene obeyed.
“Who were you on the phone with? You sounded disturbed. What’s the matter?” Rene asked immediately after the doctor left.
“Olivia wants a divorce,” I responded instantly. There was no time to think about it.
“This is a joke, right? How did you find out? She was here earlier, wasn’t she?” Rene freaked out.
“My grandma called. She told me Olivia visited her to make the declaration. Although, there’s a twist—my grandma wants the marriage to last another five years,” I added.
“Another five years? Now this shit is getting messier. What was your response to that?” Rene was so curious.
I thought she would be the happiest woman on Earth if Olivia and I finally went our separate ways.
