ADRIAN

Detective Lily finally led us to the wood where Olivia was tied up around a tree like a sacrificial lamb.

Lily wasn't wrong when she told us that she had been to the woods before to apprehend some criminals.

Olivia wasn't alone in the woods. She's got two hefty men standing right in front of her. From a distance, I could tell that they were cold-blooded murderers.

Right in front of her was a man pointing a gun to her head while she cried her eyes out.

 “Did you see that?

 He's trying to shoot her.

We have got to save her now.

We can't let that son of a bitch accomplish his mission,” I called the attention of Lily.

At that point, I was tempted to snatch the gun from her and shoot the assassins from close range.

 “I saw them!

I'm just waiting for the perfect time to strike, so I suggest you shut the fuck up,” Lily whispered, yet it still managed to get on my thick skin.

I drifted my gaze at Kate, hoping that she was going to take sides with me. I was wrong.

From the look on her face, it indicated that she wasn't pleased with my actions.

I refrained from asking questions. This time, I sealed my lips for good. Before I could focus my attention back on Olivia, I heard some gunshots.

In the process of racking my head, the two suspected assassins were already lying on the ground in their pool of blood.

Lily addressed the other male cops in French language. Some minutes later, they had already flooded the crime scene.

Kate and I weren't left out, as we wasted no time to join the cops.

Kate assisted me to untie Olivia from the tree that made her appear like a living sacrifice.

“You guys came for me. Thank you so much,” Olivia managed to open her mouth to speak.

Her eyes were shut before we got there. She only managed to open them when we got there.

She looked pale, disoriented, and unable to speak fluently.

“Of course, we came for you. There's no way we are going to abandon you to die,” I kissed her forehead and made her rest on my chest while I served as her comforter.

I left her in the care of Kate while I met with the detective to be kept abreast with the situation.

“One of them is dead while the other is unconscious. We just called the medical team. Hopefully, he's going to reveal those behind this crime,” Lily briefed me.

“Perfect! I was about to ask you. I was curious to find out who could have done this to Olivia,” I told Lily.

It was as though she could read my thoughts to know what I wanted.

“Can we go see Olivia?” Lily asked shortly after briefing me about the investigation process.

“Where's my phone? Can you please get it from their pocket? One of them snatched it from me while I tried to reach out to you,” Olivia pleaded with me just as I was about to introduce her to Detective Lily.

After a thorough search, I finally found Olivia's phone inside the pocket of the assassin that was shot dead.

 “Holy grail.

Now I know why she wasn't taking her calls or replying to her texts,” I mumbled to myself while I walked back to them.

“Thank you so much for everything,” Olivia planted a kiss on my lips after retrieving the phone from me.

It seemed like her happiest day ever.

“This is Detective Lily from the Paris police headquarters,” I did a brief introduction. Since Olivia seemed to be in a good mood, I figured that was the perfect time to introduce themselves to each other.

I also didn't hesitate to let Lily Pulitzer know that Olivia and I are couples. There was no point denying Olivia in public.

“Nice to meet you.” Lily shook hands with Olivia as they conversed.

“Any idea who could have done this to you?” Lily asked Olivia. It was starting to seem like an interrogative session.

“I honestly don't know. They were on the verge of revealing before you shot them,” Olivia responded after glaring at me to know my reaction.

Shortly after, an ambulance drove in to convey the assassins to the hospital.

“I guess you need to come with us to the station. We got a couple of questions for you,” Detective Lily told Olivia.

I stepped in immediately. “I am coming with her. And please don't say no. I can't leave, especially when her life is in danger.”

 “Me too.

 She's my Boss.

She may need my presence for some moral and emotional support,” Kate insisted.

Lily sighed. “Fine! Can we go now? It's a good thing that all of you will be there. Perhaps, you have the opportunity to be part of the investigation.”

Lily was left with no option but to accept our demand after seeing how dedicated and focused we were to the affairs of Olivia.

I made Lily understand that I was ready to take a bullet for Olivia.

As I walked Olivia back to the car, I scanned the whole environment just to be certain we weren't being followed by anyone.

“You drive behind the cops to the station, while Olivia and I occupy the back seat. She definitely requires me now more than ever,” I instructed Kate, and she obeyed.

Halfway through the station, I noticed the oddity from Olivia.

I tried to ignore it and focus on the investigation, but unfortunately, it seemed difficult.

From her disposition, I was confident that something was certainly eating her up.

 “What's the matter?

You know you can confide in me, right?

Your problem is mine to solve,” I assured Olivia. I didn't have to wait for her to speak, demonstrating my concern.

“It's about the kidnap,” her lips clinched against each other as we spoke.

“What about it?” I got closer to her.

I was ready to be a good listener.

“I think I might just know the brain behind my kidnap,” Olivia blurted out.

Although, I still had my doubts judging from how she spoke.
