Divorced But Never Letting Go Chapter 113

OLIVIA

It’s been over a week since Kate and I arrived in Paris, and it feels like my life has been restored to normal again.

Never once did I imagine that I would be away for days, let alone weeks.

It’s good to know I could finally function without showing up at work for a day.

The thought of being away from Cyril and Rene motivated me to stay longer than I expected.

If it wasn’t for Adrian, who keeps calling to remind me how much he misses me, I wouldn’t mind staying for a few more weeks.

“So, when do you intend to go back to New York, ma’am?” Kate asked as we sat in the lounge of the hotel we’d checked into.

“Go back home? I've never really thought of that. Do you still want to go home?” I responded to Kate's question with another question while I devoured my chicken wings to my satisfaction.

If I was given the chance to decide, I would have a lot to start a new life in Paris. So far, the city has been conducive for myself and Kate.

Imagine residing where nobody knows you. The liberty of walking around freely without being scared of the press?

That was the kind of life I dreamed of as a kid. Fame and extravagance were never meant for me.

“What about the company? You’ve been away for a week. Don’t you think it needs you?” Kate advised me.

Unlike me, Kate wasn't crazy about Paris and wished to return to New York.

“Kate, the company would be fine without me. The same company you talked about had existed before I came into the picture. Besides, Cyril is there. I believe it's not too much for him to handle,” I replied.

Under different circumstances, I would have loved to return without being asked. But at the same time, I wanted to be missed.

I wanted Cyril and his grandma to feel my impact on the company.

“This shit is getting serious. What about Adrian? Don’t tell me you don’t miss him. I mean, the poor boy won’t stop calling you. I think you should give it a second thought,” Kate spilled.

She caught me on that one because I knew she wasn’t far from the truth.

Not quite long after Adrian's name was mentioned, I got a call from him.

Kate was the first to see the name on my screen. She didn't say a word but from the way she looked at me, I knew the question running through her mind.

“Hello, Adrian. How's the city?” I answered the phone almost immediately.

I had no reason to delay the call for too long.

“When are you coming back? I just stopped by the office, and I was told you haven't returned yet,” Adrian asked.

From the tone of his voice, I could tell that he was missing me badly.

I can't seem to imagine how many times he must have visited the company, hoping to see me seated in my office.

"I will be back soon. I just needed a break from everything happening in New York. I don't want you to miss me too much,” I assured Adrian.

Adrian never responded immediately. It didn't quite sound like an assurance to him.

“Okay.” Adrian sighed. I've suddenly made him speechless.

“How about I oversee the affairs of the company until your return? I would gladly do that,” Adrian suggested.

He sounded more dedicated than Cyril who could be considered as the owner of the company.

I turned down Adrian's request immediately. “That won't be necessary. That's where Cyril comes in. If he feels Rene can do a better job than me, this is the time.”

 “Rene?” Adrian laughed.

“The same Rene that I bumped into on my way out of the company? That girl is so clueless. You needed to see the way she was staring at me."

“You met Rene today at the company?” I exclaimed and lost my cool.

“What did she say to you?” I asked anxiously.

I couldn't imagine myself losing Cyril and Adrian to the same lady. If she could get Cyril to file for a divorce, then Adrian wouldn't be a difficult catch.

“Now you're beginning to sound weird. Are you insinuating that I might be flirting with her? Hell no! I only got my eyes on you and no one else,” Adrian assured me with the sweetest words that played a vital role in allaying my fears.

“I trust you now. That lady is evil. You have to avoid her by any means. Is that understood?” I warned Adrian.

I convinced myself that I had nothing to worry about, but deep down, I feared I might lose Adrian the same way I lost Cyril.

“I’ve got something critical to say to you. However, you might need to wait until my return,” I digressed.

Hearing Rene’s name was a cringe, let alone discussing her.

“Why do I have to wait until you’re back? What’s stopping you from telling me over the phone?” Adrian urged me. He sounded too impatient.

“Nah! Adrian. Not today. Buy yourself more time. I’ll be back soon,” I ended the call before he could ask more questions and force me to spill.

“So tell me, how do you feel now?” Kate winked at me after I ended the call with Adrian.

“Sorry, I don’t understand what you’re talking about,” I looked away and pretended as though she wasn’t talking to me.

“No way! You just can’t hide it. You need to look in a mirror and see how reddish your chin has become. You can’t do without Adrian, yet you don’t want to admit it,” Kate teased me.

I would have doubted her not until my blood pressure increased drastically when I discovered that Rene and Adrian bumped into each other at Penhurst Company.

It was at that moment I convinced myself that I was ready to spend the rest of my life with Adrian.

I also concluded not to share Adrian with anyone, let alone a she-devil like Rene.
