Divorced But Never Letting Go Chapter 122

OLIVIA

After my discussion with Adrian at his house, I was already having second thoughts about his opinion. I hadn’t stopped imagining new possibilities either.

Why do I need to come back to New York when I can actually start a life in Paris? New York had done nothing but bring me harm lately. I definitely needed a change of environment to accelerate my healing process.

Since my exit from both my marriage and the company, I saw no reason to show my face in New York again.

I was eager to leave everything behind, and having Adrian as my only partner was a good start—better than I had ever imagined.

I had only spent a few weeks in Paris, yet I had fallen in love with the city immediately. It was the perfect place for me to start a new life.

“How long will you be staying in Paris? You never mentioned that. Five days, a few weeks, or a month?” Kate asked me.

“Forever, Kate. I’m finally leaving New York for good, and I ain’t coming back,” I replied with a smile on my face.

She closed the laptop and looked at me. “You’re going to be gone forever? Is this a joke? Please tell me this ain’t true. What about me? Don’t tell me you’re leaving me behind?”

“Kate, don’t worry. We’ll still keep in touch. One last thing—you can keep this apartment. I probably won’t be needing it anymore,” I told her.

I thought gifting her my newly furnished apartment would be enough to convince her. I was wrong.

Kate insisted on coming with me to Paris, and nothing was going to change her mind.

I sighed, taking a deep breath. Her actions only highlighted her loyalty toward me.

“It’s fine. Book a flight for the two of us. I’ll put this house up for sale, just as Adrian suggested,” I finally granted Kate’s wish. It was my way of rewarding her for her loyalty.

“Adrian is aware you’re relocating to Paris?”

“Of course, he’s aware. On the contrary, he proposed the trip. But now, I want to make it permanent,” I replied to Kate’s question.

I left the living room to give her space to focus on booking the flight.

Seeing how excited she was after finding out she was coming with me, I didn’t want my presence to distract her.

While in my room, I reached out to Adrian over the phone to discuss my decision to permanently move to Paris.

“That’s wonderful. Initially, I had thought about that. However, I didn’t want to start making decisions for you. I’m glad we’re both thinking in the same direction,” Adrian told me, just when I thought he was going to be against it.

He also assured me he would find someone to purchase my apartment.

Everything in my life was happening so fast, in a way I never expected.

First, it was my marriage and the company. Now, I was leaving everything behind to start a new life in a foreign land.

I ended the call with Adrian and dashed back to the living room to join Kate. Coincidentally, she was already coming to meet me.

"I'm done booking the flight. We depart in a week's time. I had to do it that way because we’re yet to find a buyer for this apartment," Kate explained. Her decision was well justified.

A few days after Adrian helped me put the house on sale, we found a buyer immediately. I had no idea how he did it, but I was glad he did.

The buyer came at the perfect time, just when I had thought it was going to take forever.

As our departure date drew near, Kate and I decided to check into a hotel.

I couldn’t risk renting another apartment when I was leaving so soon.

Seated alone in my lodge, scrolling through the internet, I suddenly heard someone knocking at the door.

I felt distracted and annoyed. I knew it wasn’t Kate because I had already instructed her not to show up in my room unless I needed her.

I tried to ignore the knock, but it persisted. This time, it was louder than before.

I had no choice but to attend to the person at the door.

When I opened it, I was met with a strange man dressed in black.

My eyes darted to both sides, scanning for anyone else, trying to see if he was alone or had come with someone.

He wasn’t dressed like hotel staff, which made me panic a bit.

"Who are you, and what do you want?" I finally asked, taking a moment to compose myself. I was afraid my anger would ruin everything.

"Someone asked me to give this to you," the strange man said, handing me a note before turning around and walking away.

 He left without introducing himself.

He left after planting tension in me.

For a moment, I was tempted to go yell at the manager for his lack of competence and inadequate security.

How had this man been able to locate my room number?

If he had been a hired assassin sent to eliminate me, he could have done it quietly and gotten away with it.

Minutes passed after he left, and yet nobody showed up. That alone was enough proof that no one had seen him enter.

Out of curiosity, I opened the note and read it aloud.

"It's Cyril. I am outside your hotel premises. Can you please come outside so we can talk?"

Frustrated, I tore the note to pieces and stormed back into my room.

"That bastard!" I seethed. "I should have known he was behind this. What the heck does he want from me? Can't he leave me the hell alone?"

It was unclear why Cyril wanted to speak with me after everything that had transpired between us.
