OLIVIA

“Kate, can you be kind enough to prepare a meeting for me in the conference room, scheduled for the next 30 minutes? I want to meet with the company's investors one last time,” I informed Kate as we drove back to my apartment after celebrating my victory in court.

“Okay, ma'am. I will reach out to all the investors immediately,” Kate heeded my command.

“Sorry, ma'am, I just thought about this now. Will Adrian be a part of the meeting? You know he just left not quite long ago. You never mentioned if he should be part of the meeting,” Kate asked me a few minutes after my previous instruction.

“This shouldn't be a question, Kate. I intentionally decided not to mention Adrian's name, and you should know the reason. Well, we are all aware of how important Adrian is to me at this point. I will need him more often,” I responded as I took a U-turn back to the company.

My initial plan was to go back home and rest after a terrible day in court. But at the same time, I was desperate to get rid of Cyril.

Since the judge had finalize the divorce, the only thing that still connected us was Penhurst's company. I felt the need to put a stop to that.

“And oh, text Cyril too. I almost forgot about him. He’s the reason I’m doing this. He just has to be there. I’m pretty sure he’s back home now. But if he doesn’t show up, that’s no fault of mine. At least we tried,” I reminded Kate, and she obliged.

We finally arrived at the company on time. To my surprise, all the investors were present in the conference room, including Adrian.

I never thought they would be punctual, considering the short notice of the meeting.

On the left side of the conference table sat Adrian. I barely paid attention to him. I didn’t want some of those investors to have the slightest idea that I was having a romantic relationship with him.

“I appreciate you all for coming. I never thought you would all keep to time. To be honest with you, I am impressed,” I kicked off the meeting with an impressive speech after exchanging pleasantries with them.

“How about Mr. Penhurst? Don’t you think he needs to be here before the meeting begins?” Adrian asked me in the presence of everyone.

I never saw that coming, but I was glad he asked. That way, no one would have guessed that we had some sort of entanglement.

 “I’m here now.”

We heard a female voice from close range—one that sounded nothing like Cyril.

We all turned our heads to witness a dramatic entrance into the conference room. It was safe to say she stole the spotlight of the day.

The investors mumbled in utmost confusion, plenty of questions plaguing their minds.

Not everyone knew who Rene was or why she showed up after Cyril’s name was mentioned.

“What are you doing here? I don’t recall inviting you over,” I stood up and asked her on behalf of everyone.

“You weren’t informed? Cyril asked me to represent him,” Rene said stylishly, flaunting her hair like a whore.

“Cyril did what?” the majority of the investors echoed, still trying to understand Rene’s relationship with Cyril.

“You have a problem with that? Deal with it. And if you feel I might be lying, feel free to call him,” Rene spoke rudely to the investors.

It was her first time meeting them, and she couldn’t put up a good impression to save her life.

Not just them—I also had a reason to be worried. I didn’t want to believe that Cyril thought the best person to put in charge of the company was Rene.

Nonetheless, I chose not to be bothered by how Cyril ran his affairs.

I was glad that I was finally getting rid of the burden of running the business.

“It’s fine. You don’t need to leave. Please do join us,” I finally accepted Rene as part of the meeting.

I figured it would have been pointless to drag words with her, knowing it was never going to end well.

“Can you please introduce yourself to the investors?” I implored Rene.

I was the last person who would address Rene as Cyril’s mistress in the presence of everyone.

“Hi, everyone. I’m Rene, and I’m Cyril’s friend. He couldn’t show up to this meeting—he had to step out for a time-sensitive situation. But don’t worry, I’m here to represent him,” Rene said, offering more information than expected.

From her actions, I already foresaw the downfall of Penhurst Company.

It was obvious that she lacked what it took to run a successful company.

The meeting proceeded well until I made the special announcement that I was relinquishing my position at Penhurst Company.

“You can’t be serious, Olivia. What went wrong?” Mr. Chan Son panicked.

He was a representative from a Chinese firm. Aside from Adrian and his uncle Dante, Chan was one of our biggest investors.

Hearing about my decision to step down broke his heart.

His reaction made me understand how important my image was to the company. Unfortunately, Cyril’s grandmother failed to realize that.

“Cyril and I are officially divorced now. I guess that’s why he couldn’t show up today,” I explained.

“That’s why I’m handing this document to his representative.” I handed some documents to Rene.

I didn’t waste my time explaining to her what the documents meant because I was confident she understood everything perfectly.

The smile on her face said it all. She wanted this more than anything in the world.

The investors were split—some wanted to cut their losses and leave.

At the end of the meeting, I was glad that no one from the board asked if I ever wanted to start my own company.

It would have complicated the situation further.

And with Rene’s presence, Cyril was going to wage war on me without considering the restraining order against him.
