Divorced But Never Letting Go Chapter 110
OLIVIA
“What are you doing here, Cyril? I wasn't expecting you,” I frowned and picked up my bag from the ground.
“Hi, Olivia, can we please go inside the office and talk?” Cyril spoke softly.
“You haven't answered my question, Cyril. What the hell are you doing here? I thought you said you never wanted to set your eyes on me again?” I fumed at him.
I was doing everything possible to make him walk out in frustration, but it wasn't working. He made it clear that he wanted to stay and have a decent conversation with me.
“Let's go inside. Five minutes is all you got. I've got other important business to tend to,” I finally agreed to let Cyril inside the office.
From the way I treated him, it would be difficult for a total stranger to believe that he is the CEO of the Penhurst company.
“You didn't pass the night at home. Where were you?” Cyril asked me just when I thought it couldn't get any worse.
“Are you stalking me now? If this is the reason you're here, I guess I should just leave,” I stood up in anger.
“Please don't go,” he went on his knees and held my legs.
“I apologize for the other day. It wasn't me. It was all Rene's idea. I was drunk, too. I couldn't have attacked you in my right senses,” Cyril explained.
I wasn't surprised. I knew Cyril's attack on me had everything to do with Rene.
From the way Cyril spoke, it was starting to seem like he wanted to resolve the issues in our marriage.
I refused to fall for Cyril's tricks. That wasn't the first time he had apologized for his mistakes, only to go back to wearing his garment of cruelty.
“You want us to get back to winning ways, right?” I mumbled.
I brought out my phone and showed Cyril the video from the incident at Adrian's house, circulating the internet.
“Oh, my goodness. What the hell have I done to myself?” Cyril wept. He stood up and placed his hands on his head, reflecting on his mistakes.
He came back to me again. This time, he got even closer than ever before.
I adjusted backward because I thought he was going to punch me in the face. It was a signature move from Cyril that I'd gotten used to.
“Look into my eyes and tell me you don't love me anymore,” Cyril dared me.
It was a difficult task, regardless of how simple it appeared.
Deep down, I knew I wasn't in love with Cyril anymore. But admitting it directly to his face? It was something I couldn't summon the courage to do.
“Please stop this emotional blackmail,” I pushed Cyril away to regain my lost confidence.
“I hate to admit this to you, but I am leaving the marriage. I am sick and tired of it,” I finally spoke, but without looking Cyril in the face.
Before I could turn around, I felt a soft touch on my shoulder. A male voice accompanied the touch. “What did you just say? I want to assume that you weren't talking to me.”
“I am meeting a lawyer soon to have our marriage dissolved. Until then, I don't want to have anything to do with you anymore,” I confirmed my decision.
I took the bold step to stand in front of Cyril to make my intentions clear without worrying if he was going to hit me.
“Olivia, I—” Cyril's words became slippery like a banana peel on the ground. He suddenly started to stutter.
As though that weren't enough, he walked out of the office without saying anything.
I could tell he was hurt. I became more worried.
I wanted him to express his frustration. His silence was oftentimes deadlier than a venomous snake.
I had expected him to laugh in my face the same way his grandmother did.
Perhaps, he could have reminded me that my family had a lot to lose if I walked out of the marriage. Rather, he quietly walked away like a loser.
“Oh, my goodness. Am I making the right decision? Should I have considered his apology and accepted him back?” I asked myself as I reflected on the way I treated Cyril.
I stopped worrying about Cyril and spent the next few minutes trying to get work done.
I realized that keeping my mind busy would be a perfect way to forget about Cyril. However, it only made things worse. Occasionally, I got distracted each time I recalled the heated argument between Cyril and me.
Out of frustration, I smashed my pen against the wall and screamed my lungs out.
My voice was so loud that it attracted Kate to my office.
“I heard your scream from my office. I decided to rush in as soon as I could. What is the problem?” she asked me.
I couldn't speak up. The words suddenly became too heavy for my lips.
I wasn't aware when I started weeping bitterly.
“Oh, no. You don't need this,” Kate consoled me. She wrapped her arms around me, drying my tears.
“Trust me, I tried. I tried to warn you about it, but you weren't taking your calls. I tried to stop him from heading to your office. You know Cyril too well. I had to let him be when he threatened to terminate my employment,” Kate explained.
“He didn't hurt me. At least, not physically,” I disclosed.
I wasn't paying attention to Kate's apology. It was the least of my worries.
“He was here to plead for a second chance the moment he found out I was leaving the marriage. He left without saying a word,” I added.
I lifted my head to look at Kate. “Do you think I am a bad person? I shouldn't have rejected his apology, right?”
“Nah! This ain't your fault. You did what was best for you. You don't have to feel bad about it,” Kate stressed.
Our conversation was, however, interrupted by a call from Cyril's grandmother. Instantly, I felt a part of me walking away.
I knew that my problems had only just begun.
Speaking to Cyril's grandmother after the ugly encounter between me and Cyril would shatter my heart to bits beyond repair.
