OLIVIA

As I paced around my hotel room, different thoughts flooded my mind.

No matter how hard I tried to move on, I still wasn't able to get over the note I received from Cyril.

"What could he possibly have to say to me? Why did he send a note instead of approaching me himself?" I asked myself over and over again.

I just couldn't figure out what he wanted. Deep down, I was scared that Cyril was going to hurt me, especially after the way he looked at me at the courthouse.

On second thought, I realized how difficult it might be for him to harm me in a public place.

"I’m going to see him. I just have to be extra careful. He might not have a genuine reason for showing up," I told myself.

Quietly, I sneaked out of the hotel, making sure Kate didn’t see me.

I knew she would never support my decision to meet Cyril, not after what happened the last time.

As I stepped outside, I scanned the area, but Cyril was nowhere to be found. I searched every corner, yet there wasn’t a single trace of him.

I couldn't call out his name in public, and dialing him wasn’t a better option either.

"I guess he probably left because he couldn't deal with the shame and disgrace," I muttered to myself.

Tired, I decided to leave. But as I turned around, I nearly jumped out of my skin—Cyril stood right in front of me, as though he had been waiting to strike from behind.

I clutched my chest, struggling for breath. “What was that for? Do you want to give me a heart attack? Why would you show up like that?”

“I’m sorry for making you freak out. I didn’t know what to do. I was afraid to come close to you,” Cyril apologized.

“Damn your apology, Cyril. How did you find me? I don’t recall telling you where I was staying,” I fumed.

“I checked in at the hotel across from yours. I saw you walk inside last night and decided to come talk to you,” he said softly, showing a side of him I had never seen before.

I blinked, rubbing my eyes just to be sure I wasn’t hallucinating.

“I see. So you’re stalking me now? Are you that jobless?”

“No, it’s not stalking. It’s just…” He stuttered for the first time since I’d known him.

It was obvious—Cyril had lost his confidence. There was nothing left inside of him.

Before I could say another word, he dropped to his knees, begging me to come back into his life.

“Get up, Cyril. You’re embarrassing me,” I hissed through clenched teeth.

I quickly looked around, making sure no one was watching us. Thankfully, we hadn’t attracted any attention. I couldn't afford to go viral for another negative reason.

Reluctantly, Cyril stood up. Just when I thought the drama was over, he launched into another emotional plea, explaining how miserable his life had been since our divorce.

He cried his eyes out, but I didn’t fall for his antics. Not even an ounce of pity stirred within me.

I just stood there, pretending he wasn’t speaking to me. The last time I listened to him, I fell into his trap—and it ended in regret.

“Cyril, it’s over between us. I don’t want to have anything to do with you anymore,” I said firmly, making sure he could read between the lines.

I had overcome my fear, and that gave me the advantage over him.

 “What is he doing here?”

Kate’s voice rang out as she appeared out of nowhere. I had no idea how she found me since I hadn’t told her I was meeting Cyril.

Still, I was relieved she had shown up. This gave her the perfect opportunity to settle the score she had with him.

“Hi, Kate. How are you doing? I had no idea you were here,” Cyril forced a smile.

He tried to act nice, but Kate ignored him like he didn’t even exist.

“Ma’am, what is this monster doing here? How did he find out where we were? What part of restraining order doesn’t he understand?” Kate snarled.

She spoke calmly, yet inside, I could sense the rage burning like a furnace.

I could already picture the hurricane she was about to unleash on Cyril.

“Kate, I’m sorry for what happened in the past. I came for a peace talk. Please, plead with your boss to come back to me. I miss her so much,” Cyril whimpered like a scolded child.

I wasn’t surprised that he didn’t react when Kate called him a monster.

The Cyril I knew would have caused mayhem. But now, with so much at stake, he had chosen to act like a fool to achieve his goal.

“You know what? I’m calling the cops. They’re in the best position to have this discussion with you,” Kate snapped.

Right in front of me, she pulled out her phone. “Detective Paul? I need your presence for a time-sensitive situation.”

Kate wasn’t even done speaking when Cyril took off running.

That was the fastest I had ever seen him move—his legs practically touching the back of his head.

“What was he talking to you about? Why did you even get close to him? What if he had hurt you?” Kate demanded, her voice filled with concern.

After I explained everything, she insisted that I should have called the cops the moment I got the note from the strange man.

“That’s the least of my worries. I’m never going to stress myself about Cyril ever again,” I told her.

I also made it clear that I didn’t want to hear his name again.

 Kate obliged.

I was working toward my healing.

The thought of Cyril only reopened old wounds that had already been sealed.
