Divorced But Never Letting Go Chapter 62
OLIVIA
As much as I desperately needed someone to speak up for me, I still didn’t think it was a good idea to see Adrian and Cyril fight because of me.
It’s going to be a third world war. And the aftermath consequences? Disastrous, it would be. I may need more than miracles to repair the damages caused.
Cyril is already suspecting that I am in a relationship with Adrian, which, of course, I denied immediately. Seeing Adrian defend me this way, Cyril would have every reason to believe he was right after all.
The fact that we just sealed the deal with Uncle Dante further complicates things. Definitely, Adrian would be Dante’s representative until the end of the deal. Fight isn’t something I would wish for right now.
“And who are you to stand in my way? Who gave you the audacity? Have you suddenly lost your manner of approach? Perhaps, you never had one. Stay out of my affairs for good if you don’t end up being hurt. Just so you know, I don’t give empty threats. This is my wife we’re talking about. I see no reason you should be here,” Cyril confronted Adrian and entirely ignored me as though I didn’t even exist.
The way he approached Adrian got me wondering if he actually came for me or Adrian.
“Your wife? Did you just address Lydia as your wife, or I’m beginning to imagine things?” Adrian giggled as he paced around my office, placing both hands behind him.
His confidence was top-notch. I haven’t witnessed anything like that before. He defended me with the last drop of his blood, as though his life depends on it.
To think that I wasn’t even in a relationship with Adrian, yet he was ready to die for me. I can’t imagine the other nice things he would do for me the moment I accept to date him.
“For crying out loud, can you stop calling her your wife? Because clearly, she’s not. We all know you never loved Lydia. Coming from someone who wants to move out of the house to go be with another woman? You should be ashamed of yourself,” with a jaw-dropping voice, Adrian revealed what I told him. He did that to taunt Cyril.
In the process of Adrian trying to hit back at Cyril, he ends up landing me in serious trouble.
When I was seated, my heart was pounding faster. Self-guilt had eaten me up. I was waiting for the ground to swallow me up because I knew for sure that it was just a matter of time before Cyril attacked me.
I faced the wall and shut my eyes. I would rather not look Cyril in the eyes. The terrifying look on his face would be enough to sniff life out of me, let alone speaking to me directly.
“Please, don’t let him get closer to me,” I prayed silently while facing the wall.
I was hoping for the best, yet prepared for the worst that was going to happen to me.
As I mauled over my thoughts, I heard a voice speaking to me from close range. Who else would it be if not Cyril?
“Look into my eyes this minute,” he ordered me with a commanding tone.
I shivered and still struggled to be strong. I was trying to prove to Cyril that I wasn’t that naive lady he married.
Despite my effort to portray my bravery, some parts of me still exposed my cowardice.
“I don’t want to repeat myself again, Lydia. Turn around and look into my eyes. I got a question for you that demands a direct response,” Cyril warned me again. This time, his voice was more ferocious than the first time.
At that moment, I knew it was only natural that I obeyed Cyril.
Having someone like Adrian defending me the first time doesn’t mean he was going to think again.
Slowly, I turned to face Cyril with a broken heart.
My eyes were reddish and soaked in a pool of tears. Another yelling and I am already crying like a pathetic widow.
“So now what?” I folded my arms and adopted a tougher character.
I frowned my face too just to make a statement. I wasn’t certain if what I was doing was the best option. However, I was hoping it was gonna work out.
I barely act tough towards Cyril, regardless of how he usually treats me like a prisoner.
I have always thought that staying mute was the perfect way to go about it, but I was wrong. Cyril always takes my calmness for stupidity. But today, I decided to try a different approach to tackle the menace called Cyril.
“Did you hear what Adrian just told me?” Cyril asked me. He prepared his fist to punch me in the face.
I tried my best to avoid staring at the punch for too long to avoid being scared.
Rather, I focused on Cyril’s face. I ensured that we established eye-to-eye contact to help build my confidence, and it worked.
“Yes, I heard him.
I wasn’t deaf,” I replied harshly.
I resisted the urge of getting too close to Cyril just to play safe.
I know him too well. He doesn’t hesitate to hit me at the slightest provocation.
“Oh, you heard him, too? I thought I was imagining things,” Cyril mimicked me.
He held his breath and proceeded, “What have you been telling Adrian about me? How did he find out about Rene? He even knows that I moved in with Rene. Can you explain that?”
“Explain what?
You are confronting the wrong person. The last I checked, it was Adrian that told you and not me. If you have a problem, sort it out with me and leave me out of this,” I answered with confidence, washing my hands of the issue completely.
My actions stunned everyone including Kate. That was the only time she has seen me talk back to Cyril. She never thought that a time like this would come where I would speak up for myself.
