Divorced But Never Letting Go Chapter 118
OLIVIA
“I get the point now. You’re surprised by my sudden visit, aren’t you? I was heading to your apartment when I saw Cyril being dragged into a police vehicle like a criminal. I had a feeling he might have come here to do something stupid. I was also surprised that he knew your new address,” Adrian explained, satisfying my curiosity.
I was relieved. Initially, I had been scared that I was imagining things that weren’t real.
Adrian’s presence was undoubtedly what I needed most, especially when it felt like I was going astray.
He was surely going to serve as my support system. Banking on Kate would have been the wrong choice, considering how shocked she had been when Cyril became unconscious.
“Thank you for coming, Adrian. I must confess, you came at the right time. That son of a bitch almost had me. Thankfully, Kate came to my rescue. She hit his head with a vase,” I told Adrian.
There was no way I could explain the whole scenario without mentioning Kate’s heroics.
In all uncertainty, Adrian pointed at Kate. “You mean Kate hit Cyril’s head with a vase and knocked him unconscious when he tried to hurt you? I don’t believe you.”
I smiled. “I completely understand your plight. It’s hard for you to believe because Kate is freaking out, right?”
“My boss is right. I did it. I only freaked out because I thought he was done. I was afraid I had committed murder,” Kate explained further to vindicate herself.
“Cyril is going to be charged in court, isn’t he?” Adrian asked again.
He was so eager to see Cyril punished.
I nodded. “I seriously don’t know. I’ll keep in touch with the cops.”
“That’s wild,” Adrian sighed.
“How about you get a restraining order on him? That way, the son of a bitch won’t have the chance to attack you again,” Adrian suggested.
“Precisely what I told her,” Kate hurriedly spoke.
She didn’t even give me a chance to respond to Adrian. It was as though she had been waiting for someone else to suggest the same thing.
“Kate is right, Olivia. We all know how desperate and crazy Cyril is. He won’t rest until he’s done with his evil plot against you,” Adrian added.
For the second time, I was getting the same advice from the two people I cared about the most. Judging from the situation, they might not be wrong at the same time.
That was the second time Cyril had attacked me in less than a month. First, at his party. And now, in my new apartment.
The most interesting thing was that he had been drunk on both occasions.
“Can we talk about something else? I wouldn’t want to spend the whole day talking about that monster. He’s not worth it,” Kate suggested, yawning.
She came through when I needed someone to bail me out.
I wasted no time supporting her. “Of course. Let’s go make dinner, Kate. I’m sure Adrian must be starving by now.”
“Of course. Damn! The worms in my belly are organizing a concert already,” Adrian joked, making us all laugh.
After we finished having lunch, Kate stood up to leave, but Adrian held her back. “Where are you going? We just ate.”
“For the same reason I need to give you both some privacy to talk. You certainly require some time alone, and that’s precisely what I’m doing,” Kate explained.
Without much explanation, I completely understood the reason behind Kate’s departure.
However, I kept my observation to myself, allowing Adrian to handle the situation. I wanted to see if he was thinking the same thing as me.
“That’s never going to happen, Kate. We’re all going to sit here and talk like one big family.
We haven’t really had that moment since we’ve known each other,” Adrian insisted.
“Is this what you really want? I mean, I don’t mind leaving you two alone,” Kate asked again for clarification.
She still didn’t fully grasp what Adrian was trying to do.
Adrian looked at me, silently seeking my opinion. I responded with a nod and a fake smile, but deep down, I was shocked beyond imagination.
We ended up discussing random things we shared an interest in, and it became clear to me why Kate was so eager to leave us alone.
She assumed we were going to make love. However, Adrian proved her wrong by asking her to stay and be part of the conversation.
He showed her that it wasn’t always about sex and romance.
For the first time, we shared a moment together that had nothing to do with intimacy.
At that moment, it dawned on me how much I had been missing lately.
I learned so many interesting things about Adrian that had never been revealed to me before.
Initially, I thought he was only after my body, but I was wrong. He was more than a perfect gentleman.
I became convinced—Adrian was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.
We had so much fun that we completely forgot Cyril was still locked up in prison.
“I had a great time. I hope we can do this again sometime. What do you think?” Adrian said as we walked him to the door.
“That would be great,” Kate answered on my behalf.
I didn’t take offense, knowing she had probably enjoyed the evening the most.
“We would love to do this again with you, too. To be honest, you were quite hilarious. Why did it take us so long to see this side of you?” I asked, genuinely curious.
I wanted to know if he had intentionally kept this part of himself hidden or if he had simply never had the chance to show it.
“Shit happens, Olivia. I guess we never had the perfect timing because of everything that was at stake,” he replied.
“I see,” I sighed.
Kate and I walked him to his car and watched as he drove away.
It felt good that none of us had mentioned Cyril’s name throughout dinner. We all knew his name was a killjoy.
