Divorced But Never Letting Go Chapter 107
OLIVIA
"You're finally getting a divorce?" Adrian asked, his voice laced with disbelief.
"Yes, I am. Why do you sound so surprised? I thought this was what you always wanted?" I questioned him, not expecting such a reaction.
"It's not that, Olivia," Adrian said, standing up and coming over to me.
He sat on the desk and fondled my hair. "Of course, you know I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I’m just surprised you finally took the bold step. I've waited all my life for this moment."
I got up from my chair, crossing my arms. "Why do I have a feeling you’re lying to me? Your facial expressions don’t match your words. Adrian, am I making the biggest mistake choosing you over Cyril?"
I wasn’t impressed with Adrian. His reaction made me wonder if I should reconsider spending another five years with Cyril, just as the Penshurst matriarch suggested.
“Olivia, please don't say that.
You know I love you, right?” Adrian spoke in a soft tone. He vacated the Desk to come flirt with me.
I turned around and pulled him closer. I looked directly into his eyes to speak. “Adrian, I want you to be honest with me. What exactly is the problem? Do you still want me?”
“More than anything in the world right now,” Adrian swore to my face.
He went further to kiss my forehead and hands.
“I am just worried about you. Leaving the marriage equally means losing the company and everything you ever worked for. Have you considered that?” Adrian finally hit the nail on the head.
He seemed to have made lots of sense from his speech.
I left him and returned to my chair.
I rested my head on the desk for a while before lifting it.
I chewed my nails while I thought about what Adrian said.
“Did I say something wrong?”
He sounded so guilty.
I wasn't done thinking of my next move when Kate walked in with a file in her possession.
She wanted to walk away after noticing the atmosphere in my office.
“Don't leave, Kate.
What's it about?” I hated Kate.
I figured that her presence might just ease the stress off me.
“Some Investors are here to see you, ma'am. Should I let them in?” Kate disclosed.
“Some investors?
Where are they from?”
I looked confused.
I wasn't sure It was the right time to speak to anyone in my situation.
“I wouldn't mind heading back home just to let you focus on work,” Adrian volunteered to leave.
“No one is leaving.
Feels good that you're here. It will allow me to introduce you to the investors,” I stopped him from leaving.
“Ask the investors to come in,”
I ordered Kate.
“Are you sure you want me to stay? It's obvious that my presence is making you lose focus,” he teased me.
“Don't flatter yourself, Adrian. You had nothing to do with this. I will be fine,” I joked and let out a smile.
It didn't take too long for the Investors to show up minutes after Kate's exit.
"Mr. Jerry Wang. Nice to finally meet you. Had no idea it was you," I greeted, shaking hands with him.
One of them happens to be Jerry Wang. We agreed that he was going to stop by for a meeting.
Unfortunately, he showed up when I least expected.
I got so carried away discussing business with the investors that I forgot about Adrian.
I quickly made up for my mistake by doing a quick introduction between them.
“Can you please take me on a tour around the company?” One of the investors asked. Although, he spoke in Chinese. All thanks to Jerry Wang that came through with the translation.
I had a great time showing them around the company. The most interesting part was the fact that Cyril's name wasn't mentioned.
They all recognized me as the CEO of Penhurst company. I was already imagining how the company would cope when I finally completed the divorce procedures.
“That was great.
You know that, right?” Adrian teased me after we both saw the investors off on their way out of the company.
“Of course, It's going to be great. What do you expect? I mean, I am the boss,” I blushed and praised myself in the presence of Adrian.
The fun short loved the moment Adrian glanced at his wristwatch and frowned.
“The lighthearted moment was cut short when Adrian glanced at his watch and frowned.
"What’s the matter?" I asked, concerned creeping into my voice.
I thought I had done something wrong. I was already making plans to apologize to him.
“It's not you.
I've got a meeting with a client in the next 30 minutes,” Adrian disclosed with the same sad face.
I was reviled.
My fears were allayed just when I thought something was wrong.
“Hold on a second.
If you're leaving to attend to something critical, then why are you sad?”
"I don’t want to leave your side, not even for a second. I want to be with you every goddamn time," Adrian said dramatically, making me chuckle.
"Adrian, I’ll be fine. Just go. You don’t have to worry about me," I assured him, pressing a kiss to his forehead without caring who saw us.
For the first time since I decided to get a divorce, I felt free. I was no longer ashamed to express my love for Adrian.
As I watched him drive away, I muttered, "What a man."
The exhaustion from the day’s events suddenly caught up with me. All I wanted was to return to my office and rest my head.
But as I stepped inside, I froze in shock.
Sitting in my chair like she owned the place was Rene.
How she got in, I had no idea.
But after the long, exhausting day I’d had, she was the last person I wanted to see.
All I needed was relief—not someone to stress me further. And that’s exactly what Rene’s presence promised.
