Divorced But Never Letting Go Chapter 145
OLIVIA
"Stay calm, ma'am. You're not helping matters," Officer Julian called me to order.
I ignored him, saying, "Don't you dare tell me to stay calm. Didn't you hear what he said? He accused me of something I know nothing about. Now that's insane."
"You were the target. We were paid by someone to kill you," the criminal finally confessed.
His confession sent tiny shivers down my spine. I lost some brain cells and stood up from where I was.
I now know what it feels like to be agitated.
"Who sent you? Start talking now," I moved a step closer to the criminal.
Seeing how close I was, Adrian rushed to pull me back. "Don't do this. Let him speak. I understand how you feel right now, but this isn't the way out."
I stood back. I forced myself to stay calm, but deep inside, I was a burning furnace.
I was being consumed by the desire to kill the criminal even before he was done with the confession.
"Some lady called Rene. She gave us your photo and asked us to kill you," the criminal confessed further.
"Rene?" Adrian and I exclaimed in shock as though it were planned.
"But how's that possible? Rene isn't even in Singapore. How was she able to find me?" I asked the criminal.
I got closer, but not intending to hurt him. I just needed him to speak the truth to my face.
"She has an insider from the party. That was how she discovered your whereabouts," the criminal added.
"That will be all. Take him back to the cell," Officer Julian ordered one of the cops who were present in the waiting room.
"Where are they taking me to? I thought we both had an agreement?" the criminal cried while he was being forced away.
From his cry, it dawned on me how easy it was for the officer to force the truth from his mouth.
Despite his confession, I was still confused. There were a thousand questions in my head that needed to be answered.
Too bad the questions might not be answered since the criminal had been taken away.
"Do you know this Rene?" Officer Julian asked me.
"Yes, I do," I nodded my head in response.
After narrating my past ordeal with Rene to the officer, he shook his head sideways and laughed.
"What's funny?" I frowned at the officer. I didn't find his attitude quite amusing.
"I'm sorry I laughed. I got good news for you," he said.
The talk about some good news was enough to make up for his wicked laughter.
"After the confession, we contacted the New York Police Department, who declared Rene wanted. Unfortunately for her, she got arrested while trying to escape from the police. She also confessed to drugging Cyril, your ex-husband, while she pinned it on you," the officer added.
At the mention of Cyril, I was forced to step in. "Hold on a second. Did you just say she confessed to drugging Cyril?" I needed to be sure if my ears weren't leading me astray.
"Exactly what you heard. According to news gathered, we found out that Cyril had a successful kidney transplant in India. His family is pressing charges to ensure Rene gets life imprisonment," the officer revealed.
He barely spoke for long and was still able to reveal a lot. Everything was happening so fast, from the death of Uncle Dante to the arrest of Rene.
"I guess I will leave you guys alone to talk. If you ever need me, one of the cops will lead you to my office," Officer Julian addressed before leaving.
Adrian, Kate, and I all stood in silence, glaring at each other.
The shock from what we heard about Rene had succeeded in sealing our lips for good. I'm sure we all had something to say, but none of us had the nerve to speak in that situation.
"That bitch! Serves her right," Kate broke the silence. She was the first to speak when Adrian and I found it very difficult.
"I wish I were there to see the look on her face. Life imprisonment isn't enough. She should be sentenced to death by firing squad or strangulation. Her corpse needs to be set ablaze. And her ashes? Thrown inside the deepest of all oceans," Kate wouldn't stop cursing.
I had to call her to order. "Kate, that's enough. Don't be ridiculous. Allow the law to take its full course."
"Are you kidding me? That lady deserves no pity. She fucking made your life a living hell. Do you know how many times she tried to kill you? Because of her, Uncle Dante is dead." Kate cried. She lost control of herself and walked out on me.
I didn't take offense at Kate's attitude, nor did I run after her. I already understood the reason for her rage.
It's been three years since the death of Uncle Dante, and a lot has changed.
Kate committed suicide while she was in prison. She couldn't endure the shame and disgrace her decision had caused her.
A week after Uncle Dante's funeral, Adrian and I got married in a paradise-like wedding ceremony.
We both discovered that I was pregnant a few days after our wedding.
We had a son together and named him after my Uncle Dante to honor his memory.
On the day of my wedding, we had a surprise guest in the person of Cyril. He came with a gift as a peace offering.
As we made peace, he appreciated me for helping in getting justice after Rene nearly destroyed his life.
As the only surviving nephew of Uncle Dante, Adrian had to take over Uncle Dante's company in Singapore.
To ensure the smooth running of the company, Adrian and I relocated to Singapore while we elevated Kate's status as the CEO of our company in Paris.
That had been my lifelong dream for Kate even before the death of Uncle Dante. It was quite unfortunate that his death hastened the process.
I couldn't have asked for a better happily ever after.
