Divorced But Never Letting Go Chapter 125
OLIVIA
"I am coming over. As we speak, I am a few miles away from your apartment."
That was the text I received from Adrian in the early hours of the day.
As much as I enjoyed having him around, I still wasn't expecting him.
We had spoken for hours on the phone the previous night, and not once did he indicate that he was coming over.
"I guess it's too late now. I can't do anything to change his mind," I sighed.
Sending Adrian away was certainly not the best option. It would have been easier if he had notified me before booking a flight to Paris.
I had a quick bath, put on a decent outfit, and dashed to Kate's room.
Unlike me, who had just bathed, Kate was already dressed. It looked as though she had been awake all night.
"So, what's the occasion? Why are you dressed up already?" I asked Kate.
If I hadn’t known her for so long, I would have argued that she was going on a date with the president.
"Adrian texted me that he was coming over. I just figured it would be nicer to get dressed and wait for him. What do you think?" Kate responded with a friendly gaze.
"I see. I guess we've got the same motive after all," I smiled.
Suddenly, we heard a knock on the door.
"Don't worry, I'll get that myself," I told Kate. I already knew it was Adrian—he was the only one I was expecting.
I adjusted my dress and took a deep breath, just to be certain I didn’t look horrible.
"Just a second, please," I called out from inside after a second knock on the door.
"Wow! You look so stunning. You're so hot, the sun is jealous of you," Adrian complimented my beauty.
He acted like we hadn’t seen each other in years.
I embraced him and welcomed him inside my apartment. It was his first visit to my newly furnished place—our previous meeting had been in my hotel room.
Kate stepped outside to welcome Adrian, and we all had the time of our lives, tossing jokes at each other and discussing business.
We did our best not to make Cyril the center of attention. We all pretended he never existed to avoid ruining the good moment.
"I've got a suggestion to make. I don’t know if you two will subscribe to it," Kate said after we finished breakfast.
I glanced at Adrian and whispered in his ear, "Do you know what she wants to talk about?"
"I wouldn’t know. Let’s just hear from her," Adrian responded. He was just as confused as I was.
"Alright! Go ahead," I gave Kate permission to speak.
"But please—make it meaningful. Don't ruin this incredible moment. You should know what I'm talking about," I warned Kate in advance.
Without mentioning a name, she already knew exactly who I was referring to.
"I've been thinking lately—how about I head back to New York and sort out some of the things we left behind? I mean, Adrian is here now. You don’t have to worry about being lonely," Kate suggested.
I took my time to think about what she said, and I realized she might be right.
However, I still sought Adrian's opinion. It was important that I hear what he had to say.
"That's fair enough. To be honest with you, I had thought about that before. It's safe to say that Kate and I are thinking in the same direction," Adrian endorsed the suggestion.
Hearing him address the issue was quite relieving. I had no choice but to grant Kate's wish.
Her trip back to New York also gave me the liberty to spend more time with Adrian and get to know him better—especially since I might be spending the rest of my life with him.
It’s been two days since Kate left for New York, and it feels like she’s been gone for eternity.
Despite Adrian’s presence, I still missed having Kate around.
It was quite unfortunate that I couldn't relate to Adrian the same way I did with Kate.
Aside from the great sex, Adrian and I had a great time bonding.
I also discovered some hidden traits in Adrian that hadn’t been revealed to me earlier.
As I sat in the living room, reflecting on my journey since my divorce from Cyril, my phone rang.
It was a call from Kate. I was stunned and, at the same time, elated to see her name pop up on my phone.
What perfect timing. She called at just the right moment—right when I was thinking about her.
"Hi, Kate. How far have you gone with the arrangement? Are you done yet? When are you coming back to Paris?" I tossed a series of questions at Kate.
"Take a chill pill. I guess someone is missing me already," Kate teased.
"Shut the fuck up and answer the damn question," I joked, and we both laughed.
"I'll be back in a few days. However, that's not the reason I called," Kate responded.
Her voice changed immediately. I needed no one to tell me that she had something critical to say.
"I heard something terrible about Cyril and Rene. I feel you should know about it too," Kate divulged.
At the mention of Cyril and Rene, my mood changed.
I warned Kate not to speak about them, or I was going to end the call.
To my surprise, Kate disobeyed. She sounded so tense, which indicated how serious the situation was.
She caught my attention.
I had no choice but to let her speak. "Fine! Speak. It better be worth it. I wouldn’t want my day ruined before it even starts."
"I heard that Rene is planning to kill Cyril and take over the company. Please, we have got to do something to stop her before she gets away with it," Kate revealed.
My heart froze as my phone dropped to the ground, making a loud noise.
I overheard Kate’s indistinct chatter over the phone, but I was too terrified to speak.
Cyril and I might be separated, but the last thing I wished upon him was death. I bet he wouldn’t wish the same for me either.
The sound of my phone hitting the floor brought Adrian into the living room, where he met me in shock.
Barely two months since I left Cyril, and his life was already spiraling into chaos.
If only he had listened to me when I warned him about Rene.
