OLIVIA

Anxiety spread from my face and traveled down to my lungs' region as I stood at the prosecuting area, waiting for the judge to pass the final verdict regarding the allegations against me of being responsible for Cyril's condition.

I lost count of how many times the case has been adjourned.

I've lost all hopes of getting a favorable ruling. Currently, the only thing left inside of me is emptiness and fright.

I might as well confess to the crimes I never committed just to be free from this dungeon of calamity and frustration.

I looked behind me and saw Kate resting on the chest of Adrian.

Poor girl! She's been through a lot this period. And she isn't even the one accused falsely.

I drifted my attention back to the judge to avoid missing out on what she had a say.

“So here's my verdict,” the judge said before she took a deep pause to put on his glasses.

I was yearning for her to be done talking. Her silent treatment keeps raising my blood pressure.

From the look of things, I might as well develop a cardiac arrest before the final verdict.

“So, according to the investigation carried out over the past few days, I hereby declare Miss Olivia not guilty due to lack of concrete evidence.

She's now discharged and acquitted. May the court arise,” the judge finally passed the long-awaited verdict.

I opened my eyes to my reality. And when I did, tears were already drooling like an ocean.

My joy couldn't be contained. I believed it was all a dream. I wanted someone to wake me up from my slumber.

As I tried to process what had just happened, I saw Adrian and Kate standing in front of me, waiting for me to step outside the cubicle.

I was so overwhelmed by the situation that I didn't even notice when they showed up.

I stepped outside and kissed Adrian so passionately while trying to fight back my tears

“I am proud of you, my love. You are the strongest woman I know. I've always trusted that the decision will go in your favor,” Adrian applauded my victory over the Penhurst Family.

I cried, but they were tears of joy. Getting so many accolades from someone like Adrian was enough motivation I needed.

“I am still here, though. Perhaps you two should get a room,” Kate cleared her throat to remind me of her presence.

She cracked a joke and forced a smile on my sorrowful face.

“Go get yourself a man and leave mine alone, you jealous soul,” I teased Kate.

Suddenly, my gaze narrowed to Rene staring at me in the face. I attempted to go fight Rene, but Kate and Adrian held me back.

 “She ain't worth it

Just let it go. We got the victory we required and that's what matters,” Adrian advised.

As we walked back to the car, I discussed plans to go back to Paris and start a new business.  However, Kate and Adrian kicked against it.

“Starting a new business isn't a bad idea to me. Nonetheless, I suggest we sue the Penhurst family and make them pay for damages,” Adrian suggested.

“I am in full support of his decision. We can't let them win. They did us dirty on several occasions. This is the time to get back at them,” Kate endorsed Adrian's suggestion just when I thought she was gonna kick against it.

“No, that's not happening. I am done with New York. I am done with the Penhurst drama. I just wanna head back to Paris and pick up the pieces,” I told them.

To my surprise, they never argued with me or opposed my decision. They were quite aware of my recent challenges.

And it would be quite illogical of them to engage me in a heated argument just to prove a point.

 _________

It's over a year since I relocated back to Paris to kickstart our brewery company. So far, it seemed like the best decision of my life.

With Adrian as my partner and Kate as my assistant, what more can I ask of you?

In less than a year since the company was founded, Adrian and I made plans to extend the business and reach out to more potential investors.

I had a feeling that moving to Paris would be the start of something new, but I had no idea that it would be this fast.

Not even the success of the company was enough to reduce Adrian's love for me. Rather, it increased drastically.

Every day, he comes up with different strategies to prove how much she loves me.

Kate wasn't left out either. Just when I thought it wouldn't get any better, she managed to secure an apartment for herself.

As though that weren't enough, she also found love in the sight of Gregory Alan, the richest painter in Paris.

Some few years ago, I was cursing every minute of my life while I was married to Cyril. But these days, it's joy all the way.

“I guess it's time for him to pop the question. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him,” I mumbled while seated in my ultra-modern exquisite office.

Despite my recent accomplishments, I still felt that the only thing missing was being married to Adrian.

What's a beautiful love story without a happily ever after?

My thoughts were, however, hampered by a knock on the door that caught me off guard.

I adjusted myself. "Come inside. The door is opened,

I had every reason to believe that it was the foreign investors

I stood up, hoping to welcome them with a warm smile. Unfortunately, I was met with disappointment when I saw Kate walking inside with some files in her possession.

Instantly, the smiles that crowded my face suddenly vanished without a trace.

“Is there a problem? You don't look too excited,” Kate asked me when she noticed how unhappy I looked.

  I didn't respond

I just returned to my chair and asked her to drop the flies on the desk.

Her presence in my office sparked a mixed reaction. I couldn't tell if I was excited or upset.

Shortly after Kate left my office, Adrian walked inside. Like magic, happiness found its way back to my heart again.

Adrian came at the right time when I needed him the most.

He didn't just come alone; he also brought an attractive flower bouquet and a pack of ice cream.

After he spoon-fed me, we didn't end up kissing for over fifteen minutes.

We weren't even considerate that someone might just walk inside and catch us red-handed

“Now that's enough, you naughty. Someone might walk in on us,” Adrian called us to order. I got carried away to even put myself in order.

 “Guess who called today?”

 Adrian asked me.

After several attempts to guess, I finally gave up. “Please tell me. I am tired of guessing.”

The spaces in my head were preoccupied with lots of company activities to the point where I couldn't guess right to save my life.

"It's Uncle Signor Dante. He is inviting us to a family dinner in Singapore. Isn't that great?” Adrian disclosed enthusiastically.

Judging from how he sounded, I knew it was just a matter of time before he slid a ring on my finger.

Another exciting angle from the family's dinner was the possibility of Adrian proposing to me in the presence of his family.

“Aww! This is beautiful. It's an honor to be a guest at your uncle's party. Please tell him I will be there,” I responded emphatically. It wasn't a situation where I had to think about my response.

“Lastly, you are free to invite Kate. I mean, you both are part of the family,” Adrian said.

That was the part that excited me about the post. Seeing Adrian acknowledging Kate was one of the best things he's ever done since we started dating.

 ___________

Choosing to attend the party was the best thing that ever happened to me in a while.

Aside from the party at Adrian's mansion in New York, that was my first time attending a public function.

Being married to Cyril caused me numerous damages, and one of them includes the eradication of my social life.

I forgot what it feels like to move out of my comfort zone and connect with people.

But with Adrian, I rediscovered myself. I was exposed to so many things that we have hidden from me while I was married to Cyril.
