Divorced But Never Letting Go Chapter 106
OLIVIA
“Book an appointment with Adrian. Tell him to meet me in my office in the next hour. I want to have a meeting with him,” I instructed Kate as she drove me back home.
She stopped the car immediately and turned to me. “Did you just say I should book an appointment with Adrian in your office? Perhaps I've started hearing things that aren't real.”
“This is no joke. Yes, you heard me right. Or do you have a problem with what I said?” I affirmed.
“And why did you stop the car in the middle of the road like that? Do you want to get us killed? Don't you know how dangerous that is?” I snapped at Kate, pouring my frustration on her after my nasty encounter with Cyril's grandmother.
“I am still shocked to hear you say that, ma'am. I mean, we are heading home and not to the company, yet you still want to have a meeting with Adrian in your office? You clarified that you had no intention of stopping by the company today. So what changed? Please make it make sense to me,” Kate lamented.
After her words, I realized that she was right. Stopping by the company wasn’t part of my plans for the day. However, my meeting with Cyril’s grandmother had played a vital role in changing them. I had the urge to apologize to Kate, but as the boss, I decided to hold on to my ego.
“I guess I should have told you about the sudden change of plans. Maybe that would have saved you the stress of asking questions. Drive me to the company. And please—don’t ask me further questions because I won’t respond to any of them,” I instructed. Kate obeyed.
I knew she had a lot of questions in her head, but the warning I gave her might have prompted her to keep them to herself.
As we arrived at the company, I noticed people staring at me as though I had just risen from the dead. I paid no attention to them because I knew they had probably seen the videos of me circulating the internet.
“I've booked the appointment, ma'am, and he will be here soon,” Kate reported.
I nodded in response and signaled her to leave. She was heading straight to the exit when she turned back. “Do you need me to do anything else for you?”
“No, Kate, I don’t need you to do anything for me. That will be all for now. You can head back to your office. I will definitely call you if your presence is needed,” I told her.
I dismissed her for the second time, but she stood still. “Did you notice how everyone was staring at you when we arrived? The stares were so obvious. They just can’t take their eyes off you for a second,” Kate whispered.
“Yes, I did notice,” I said.
“And you’re not even bothered? That’s strange.”
I lifted my head and glared at Kate awkwardly. She apologized and exited my office. This time, she didn’t bother coming back.
Not long after Kate’s exit, I started to think about what she had said. I acted like I wasn’t bothered by the way the staff were staring at me, but deep down, I cared the most. The reason I didn’t approach any of them was to avoid being asked questions about the trending videos.
“I just hope this scandal dies off soon,” I muttered succinctly, then focused my attention on work.
Moments later, I heard a knock on the door.
“Go back, this isn’t the time for jokes,” I sent the person away without finding out who it was.
I thought it was Kate. I was already thinking of ways to yell at her for disturbing my peace.
The knock came again, even louder. I started guessing that it wasn’t Kate after all. I had no choice but to tell the person to come inside.
To my surprise, it was Adrian. I knew he was coming, but I never expected him to show up so fast.
“Oh my goodness. I am so sorry. I had no idea it was you,” I stood up to apologize.
“It’s fine. I understand,” Adrian said, sitting down without picking a fight.
While we talked, I realized that he was staring at the door. I bet he wasn’t even listening to me.
“Is there a problem? I just said I’m sorry,” I voiced out.
“It’s not you. Why are your staff glaring at me like that? What did you tell them about me?”
“Oh, they did the same thing to you? I guess I wasn’t the only one,” I smirked.
“They probably recognized you from the viral video on the internet. Not to worry, I am going to address the issue,” I assured Adrian just to calm his nerves.
“No, you’re not going to do that. It will be pointless. Just let it go,” Adrian advised. We most likely shared the same thought.
“The only concern is Cyril. If you can solve that, then you have nothing to worry about anymore,” Adrian added, heading in the direction I wanted.
“And that’s the reason I invited you over. There’s something you need to know,” I said, providing insight to prepare Adrian’s mind ahead.
“And what is it?” He adjusted his chair.
“I visited Cyril’s grandmother earlier today to discuss her grandson’s recent attitude. Guess what she told me?” I paused to take a deep breath, then continued. “She insisted that our marriage needs to last another five years.”
“She said what?” Adrian screamed as he stood up from his chair.
“And what is your response? You’re going to accept her offer, aren’t you?” Adrian freaked out. I could hear his heart beating faster from where I was seated.
“No, I didn’t. Can you please sit down now?”
“What a relief. Now I am calm,” Adrian said, holding his chest like someone who had just suffered a panic attack.
“I told her I’m getting a divorce. Yes, I am leaving the marriage,” I dropped another bombshell just when Adrian thought the heat had died down.
