Divorced But Never Letting Go Chapter 121
OLIVIA
I woke up in the morning with Adrian sleeping next to me in bed. It had always been my dream to see that happen.
Unfortunately, my marriage with Cyril had limited me from many things I would have accomplished.
It was my first day as a divorcee. It also turned out to be one of the most important days of my life.
I was relieved knowing that I wasn’t married to Cyril anymore.
I was also thrilled that Cyril wouldn’t be coming after me anymore, thanks to the restraining order from the judge.
I wrapped my arm across Adrian’s body and kissed his forehead. “Good morning, honey. I hope you had a beautiful night?”
“Of course, I did. But not as beautiful as you. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me,” Adrian yawned and lifted his head, showering me with praises.
He had already prepared himself for a moment like this.
He hadn’t asked me to marry him yet, but I was already imagining us as a couple.
He treated me like a queen. He treated me in a way I had never felt before.
“You know I love you, right?” I asked him.
I was acting like a toddler experiencing her first love.
“Of course, I do. I just hope what we have now doesn’t end. I am ready to spend the rest of my life with you,” Adrian said to me.
I had every reason to believe that he was the truth. In recent times, his actions had proven that.
“Hold on a second. I’ll be back,” Adrian told me.
He dashed outside and returned some minutes later with a tray of hot pasta sauce, garnished with chicken and a glass of juice.
I died a thousand times when I saw him coming closer to me.
I shed tears—tears of joy.
What I wanted from my ideal man was finally manifesting in the exact way I had planned it.
All my life, no one had ever given me breakfast in bed. It was funny to imagine that the first person who did it wasn’t even my husband.
As I devoured the plate of pasta, I kept glaring at Adrian simultaneously.
I just couldn’t get my eyes off him. Every minute, he gave me a thousand reasons why I shouldn’t stop loving him.
After I was done with breakfast, his domestic staff showed up and took the tray away.
“So, what are your plans now?” Adrian asked me shortly after his maid departed.
“What did you say?” I looked confused.
I had been carried away by the moment. It took me a while to realize he was actually referring to me.
“You’re free from Cyril and everything about him. What’s your next line of action? I mean, you certainly have other plans, don’t you?” Adrian stressed.
This time, he took his time to clarify his words without beating around the bush.
I sighed. “Honestly, I haven’t thought about it. I just want to live the life.”
“How about a trip to Paris?” Adrian suggested.
I was confused. It was one of those suggestions no one could have ever predicted.
I thought he was about to ask me to marry him. What baffled me most was the fact that we hadn’t even had sex last night.
To him, my body wasn’t the first thing that attracted him to me. Rather, it was my vision and intelligence.
He made me understand that we could still function together as a couple without frequent sex. He exposed me to many things I hadn’t witnessed all my life.
“Or don’t you want to take a trip to Paris? If you ask me, I’d say that’s precisely what you need at this point.
I mean, considering the fact that you’ve been through a lot in recent times, you definitely need relief—something to cool off your head,” Adrian emphasized.
He sounded so serious. At first, I thought he was kidding. If I hadn’t trusted him, I would have suspected he was just trying to push me away so he could flirt around town with different girls.
“Okay. That’s a brilliant suggestion. What about my apartment? If I’m staying away for too long, don’t you think I should put it up for rent until my return?” I sought Adrian’s advice.
Unlike my last trip, I didn’t see myself returning to New York anytime soon. The only reason I had come back earlier than expected was the company.
I couldn’t have imagined being away for too long, knowing the company needed me.
“Don’t worry about the apartment. We’ll figure that out really soon. Hopefully, we’ll find an occupant before your long vacation,” Adrian assured me.
Without hesitation, I took out my phone and called Kate. She answered immediately, as though she already knew why I was calling.
“Good morning, ma’am,” Kate greeted me in a faint tone. Without asking, I could tell my call had ruined her perfect slumber.
Aside from me, Kate was the one person who truly needed time off to ease the stress she had been through in recent times.
“Sorry for calling at this time. I had no idea you’d still be in bed,” I apologized.
“Please, I need you to book a flight to Paris for me. This time, it’s going to be a long vacation,” I instructed Kate.
“Vacation?” Her voice echoed.
“Yes, vacation, Kate. You got a problem with that?”
“Certainly not. I’ll do that immediately,” she changed her tone, and I got off the phone.
I reflected on Adrian’s suggestion over the last couple of minutes and realized he was right.
The fear of bumping into Cyril again in the city pushed me to adhere to Adrian’s advice.
At this point in my life, the last person I wanted to set my eyes on was Cyril.
We might be officially divorced, but the sight of him brought back ugly memories I wanted to forget every day of my life.
Seeing his face again might also ruin my healing process.
