Divorced But Never Letting Go Chapter 84

OLIVIA

Right before our eyes, Kate and I saw Adrian step out of the car parked in his garage. The excitement inside me wouldn't let me rush to embrace him.

I stood there, looking at Adrian like a dummy. I kept wondering if I was seeing a ghost or a real human.

What baffles me most was the fact that Adrian wasn’t hurt. Neither was there any sign that he got involved in some sort of fight with someone. He looked healthier than before.

“Olivia, you are here at my house? What a pleasant surprise. I wasn’t expecting to see you at this hour,” Adrian smiled and embraced me.

I was too dumbfounded to reciprocate the warm embrace, let alone respond to his greeting. I wasn’t alone—Kate was also astonished. Neither of us was able to break the silence between us.

“Can we please go inside? I don’t understand why you aren’t speaking. I’m pretty sure you’ve got a lot to say about Cyril’s visit to the company. I want to believe you received the text I sent about his visit, didn’t you?” Adrian asked in a friendly tone. He was about to open the door when I pulled him back.

“Hold on a second, Adrian! Where were you? Where are you coming from? Why weren’t you taking your calls or replying to your texts? You got Kate and me worried,” I lamented.

“Okay, you might want to slow down with the questions. You’re starting to sound scary. I don’t even know where to start. Is there a problem? You sound pretty disturbed,” he said, looking concerned.

“Forget about my well-being and just answer the question. When I noticed you were unreachable, I had to call your uncle to confirm if he had seen or heard from you recently,” I added, hoping Adrian would understand my frustration.

“You did what? Why did you have to call my uncle? I mean, you both haven’t spoken in ages now. Or have you forgotten that I am his representative? Was the situation that bad that you had to call him?” he screamed.

“Yes, even worse than you can ever imagine,” Kate buttressed and saved me from the lengthy explanations.

That was the first thing she said since Adrian showed up. I could imagine how long she’d been enduring the utterances.

“From my observation, this must be indeed serious. We need to have this conversation inside the house,” Adrian demanded. This time, I didn’t argue or stop him from going inside his home. I just had to comfort myself and go with him.

Immediately after we walked into the main house, he picked up his phone on the sofa and showed it to me.

“You see this? You do know what this is, don’t you? It’s my damn phone. I forgot it at home. Now you see why you weren’t able to reach me.”

With his explanation, I was a bit calm and relaxed. I was also thrilled to know that he was alive.

I was already cursing myself because I thought something terrible had happened to him.

“Holy moly. What did I just see?” Adrian screamed after going through his phone.

I was confident that his reaction had something to do with what he saw on his phone.

“What happened? Why did you have to scream like that?” I rushed to meet Adrian. I was so anxious to know the reason for the shout.

“Seventy missed calls from you and Cyril? Are you kidding me? Do you intend to blow off my phone?” he cried.

At first, I was cool with what he said, not until my mind took me back.

“Did you just say Cyril called you severally?” It was quite unfortunate that I wasn’t paying attention to what Adrian said since I got carried away by my predicament.

“See for yourself if you’re doubting me,” Adrian flickered the phone to my face to feed my eyes. And truly, he was right.

It also turned out that the assumptions that Kate and I had about Cyril were authentic when we figured that Cyril might come to hurt Adrian after he had discovered the truth.

“Oh no. This shouldn’t be happening to me. I am doomed,” I bemoaned. I fell on the sofa with both hands above my head like someone whose life had crumbled.

“What’s going on here? Why are you acting like that? And why did Cyril bombard my phone with thousands of missed calls?” Adrian lamented.

 I refused to respond.

With the present situation, I wasn’t sure if Adrian would want to hear the disturbing news.

I might as well create a rift between him and Cyril, and I wouldn’t want that to happen. That aside, Cyril might want to terminate the partnership between Uncle Dante and the company.

“Can someone please say something to me? I am losing my mind already. What exactly is going on right now? If I don’t get a response from either of you, I will be forced to call Cyril myself and get what I want to hear,” Adrian threatened.

“I will speak now. I am ready to answer your questions. You don’t have to call Cyril. You will make it worse,” I pleaded with Adrian and stopped him from taking that drastic move before it would ruin us all.

He barely gets angry, and when he does, the earth’s surface and everything that exists in it pause and listen to him.

I went into silent mode after assuring Adrian that I was going to speak up. I ended up worsening it again with such an attitude.

“I can see you are not ready to speak. I will just go ahead and do what’s on my mind. Don’t try to stop me because it’s not gonna work,” Adrian categorically told me.

Like a helpless fellow, I watched Adrian reach out to Cyril over the phone right in my presence.

Right where I was, I wished for the call not to be successful.

Luckily for me, it was precisely what happened. What I wished for came to pass.

“Cyril isn’t taking my calls. I thought he called before? What game are you all playing with me right now? I don’t seem to understand what’s going on.”

“Cyril already found out about your affair with Ma’am Olivia. As we speak, he’s got photos to back his claim,” Kate spilled and bailed me out from my cell of anxiety.

“What did you just say? That’s not possible. How did he do it?” Adrian bemoaned as he doubted the authenticity of Kate’s news.

“I would never lie to you, sir. If you do feel I am telling a lie, you can ask my boss. That’s not all! He has also filed for a divorce,” Kate added.

“Kate, that’s enough! Go wait for me in the car,” I snapped, stopping her from revealing any more. She was saying too much, and I wasn’t pleased.

“Ma’am, are you serious? You actually want me to leave?” Kate protested, pointing at herself in disbelief.

“You heard what I said, didn’t you? I don’t want to repeat myself,” I replied, pointing at the exit door, signaling her to leave.
