“What else did Emma do against Hazel? Before this,” I ask Grace, hoping that she finds some sense of camaraderie in me asking about the bad deeds of her new archenemy.

“Do you remember those articles and videos that went viral about Hazel being a prostitute? That was all Emma, she asked me to dig up some dirt on Hazel, and I stumbled on that video; with some editing, it became the perfect proof.”

“But you weren’t there when she danced, and the pack members present all swore under Alpha command that they deleted the video and that they haven’t share it with anyone.”

“Maybe they deleted it from their mobiles, but I found a copy in Lucy’s cloud. Most probably she was not aware that even if she deleted the video on the mobile, it would still be available on the cloud. And I deleted it from the cloud once I found it, just in case.”

Fuck, I haven’t thought about that.

“Let’s not waste any more time, the guards on patrol could be here any minute, we need to leave before they get here.”

I nod in agreement.

“I need you to assure me first that after I free you, you won’t attack me or try to go after Hazel, as I told you, you will never find her. We’ll go back to Crescent Moon pack, and there, you can make me your new Luna. We’ll be happy together, you’ll see.”

I nod again, even though I know that what she’s saying is just crazy.

“I need confirmation. Tell me that you love me, Derek, tell me that Hazel was just a mistake.”

I grit my teeth, feeling sick at the thought of uttering those lies, but if I want to get out of here, I don’t really have much of a choice.

“Grace, I love you, and I always have. You are so beautiful, and smart, I was a fool for falling for the mate bond. I want you and only you, and I can’t wait to be with you when we are back.”

I want to bite my tongue off for all the disgusting words I just put on it; but Grace seems happy and convinced, so much so that she unlocks my chains, and helps me stand to my feet.

I won’t kill her now, I will wait until she successfully gets me out of here, and then I will make her pay for what she has done to me and to Hazel.

She leads the way to a cement stairway on the left, my legs still feel terribly stiff and foreign, but I do my best to make them work up the steps, and slowly recover some of their strength and mobility.

We get out in the open without encountering anyone, I can see that the building I was put in is an abandoned factory, the perfect hiding spot.

Grace runs towards a black SUV, and I follow suit, she takes out the car’s remote and unlocks the doors, she seats behind the wheel and waits for me to climb into the passenger seat, only I don’t go there, I wrench her door open, and in one swift movement, I plunge my hand into her torso, and take her heart out. She dies with an expression of surprise on her face.

I would have rather given her a more painful death, but I don’t have the time for that. I need to settle the score with someone, and then I need to find Hazel.

I try to mind-link her now that I am away from the silver, but she is blocking me out. At least, I know she is still alive, and that’s the most important thing.

I put Grace in the trunk of the car, not wanting to alert the patrol too soon about my escape, then I drove towards the packhouse, guessing that the person I am looking for must probably be there.

I enter the packhouse easily, after all I have come here many times, they all know me, and it’s not like they have a lot of security in place here.

I open her office door without knocking, and I am pleased to see the look of surprise and fear in her eyes. That’s right, be scared, because I am going to enjoy what I am going to do for you.

She stands up from where she’s sitting behind her desk, a fake smile is plastered on her face, but her hands are trembling badly.

“Derek, what a pleasure to see you here. To what do I owe this visit?”

She’s a good actress, I give her that, but I can still hear a slight tremble in her voice, which gives the lie away.

“Really? You are just going to play dumb? I thought you were smarter than that.”

Her smile falters a little, but she stands with her lie,

“I don’t know what you are talking about.”

“Your friend, Grace, told me everything. She even told me it was you who leaked the video and fake news about Hazel. Well done, you really played me well.”

“I don’t know what lies she has fed you, but you can’t believe a word she’s said. That woman would do anything to be with you, she’s just pathetic,” Emma says with disgust.

“Pathetic, then what are you? You drugged me so that you could hurt my mate, you made me believe that we were friends, when really you just wanted to hurt her and put your hands on my pack. I am going to ask you only once, Emma, where is Hazel?”

A smirk flashes on her face, her eyes hard.

“I could tell you where she is, but on the condition, that you leave here and never come back. You won’t hurt me or my pack.”

The little shit thinks she can bargain with me, well she has something else coming.

In a few fast strides I am before her and grab her by her neck with both hands, I don’t give her the time to struggle, I break her neck with my hands, her body going limp instantly.

You messed with the wrong person, and you got what you deserved.

I don’t waste any more time with her, I don’t give a fuck if they find her body like that, I only have one focus mind now, which is finding my mate.

“What’s a heat?” I ask them perplexed.

“Damn it! Zeke, stop the car now. Derrick, you take the wheel, you are mated, her heat won’t have too much of an effect on you. We’ll go ahead, I’ll find a hotel and we’ll stop there until it is over. I’ll link you the location.”

Derrick, who’s already at the wheel, starts the car immediately, and drives at top speed like a madman.

“What’s happening? Slow down! You’ll get us killed,” I yell at him, scared out of my mind by this whole situation.

“We can’t slow down, it’s too dangerous here, this is no one’s land, it brims with rogues, if they catch your smell, they’ll be on us in seconds.”

“What’s going on? Why will rogues want to chase me? They can’t smell me from that far, I am in a car.”

I reply, trying not to sound too scared, but really, the idea of rogues chasing me, kind of terrifies me.

“It’s the heat, your smell is amplified,” he explains curtly.

“What the hell is this heat you are all ranting on about?” I asked unnerved.
