“How are you feeling?” Derek asks me worriedly through the link.

“I think I will be ok. This poison is different, but it is only partly affecting me, I can still use my powers, only they are not as strong as usual. It is interfering with my healing ability though.”

Derek runs fast to the packhouse, our warriors shielding us on the way. As soon as we reach the packhouse’s entrance, the door is slammed open, and we are ushered inside, by a terrified Rose.

“Luna! You are bleeding! What happened?” she cries in horror, helping me down from Derek’s back, and starting to fuss over me.

“It’s ok, Rose, it will heal.”

As soon as I am off his back Derek’s shifts back to human, picks me up bridal style, and takes me to one of the couches in the lounge area.

“Wait, no, I will get blood all over it!” I protest.

Derek arches an eyebrow in warning, “Do you honestly think I care? If need be, we will buy a new one, or a new house!”

I look at him for a second, sometimes I forget how rich and spoiled he is, little prince. Anyway, I don’t argue further and let him have it his way.

The doctor comes running beside us, and starts checking my wound, no doubt Derek has mind linked him to come.

“Stay here, you are too weak to be outside, it’s too dangerous,” Derek orders, while walking towards the entrance door.

“Derek, wait, the shield!”

He suddenly remembers that the shield can’t work properly if we are apart, and curses annoyed by this new hassle.

“If you concentrate, you should be able to keep it up yourself,” I explain with urgency.

“But I don’t fucking know how! This is your thing, not mine. I am good at fighting, not with this magic crap!” he bursts out, seriously frustrated by this situation, and feeling caged, when he just wants to be outside supporting his warriors.

I feel a little hurt at his choice of words, magic crap, this magic crap saved everyone’s asses on multiple occasions! Plus, I feel like I am the cause of this, I am the one keeping him inside, he wouldn’t have to be here if my shield was more powerful, and if I didn’t get hurt.

Anyway, I push my feelings aside and try to speak in a calmed and levelled tone of voice.

“Derek, come here, please.”

He huffs but comes to sit on the couch near me.

“The Moon Goddess would not have bestowed magical powers on you if she thought you couldn’t handle them.” He doesn’t seem convinced, but he lets me grab his hands in mine.

“Close your eyes,” I tell him, and he complies.

I let my powers surge forward, making sure that he can feel them through our bond and our mind-link.

“Can you feel it? This power growing?”

He nods, still with his eyes closed.

“Good. Imagine growing it inside of you, call upon it, will it to manifest inside of you, let your wolf help you, they are more in touch with it than we are.”

Slowly, a soft blue glow starts dancing on Derek’s skin, and when he opens his eyes, they are glowing brighter than ever, and he has a look of victory in them.

I smile proudly at him, then continue, “Now, imagine the power covering you, becoming hard, impenetrable, hot like molten lava.”

He closes his eyes again, a small frown of concentration, and then a blue shield appears around him, just like the ones I conjure, only his is completely blue.

Derek opens his eyes and stares down at himself, a wide smile spreading on his lips at the sight of what he has accomplished.

He then cups my face and kisses me senselessly, not caring that the Doctor, Rose and other pack members are just standing nearby watching us.

“Now, be a good kitten, and stay put here, ok? Can you do it for me?” he says it breathlessly, our lips still millimeters apart, his hot breath fanning my lips. I think he’s doing it on purpose, to cloud my judgment, and he surely succeeded; I find myself nodding in consent, without my brain giving any such order to my neck. Cheater!

He smiles knowingly, the jerk, and speeds outside as fast as lightning, before I can call him out on his trick.

But he is not the only one who has tricks up his sleeves, as soon as the doctor is done bandaging me up, I will materialize to the battlefield and help out. In that form no one can hurt me, but I can still use my powers and make a difference in this battle.

I materialize not far away from Cindy, I want to make sure that she is ok, I know she said that as a Beta daughter she can kick assess, but these mutants are deadly, and I am worried for her.

I find her just inside the gate, her fur is covered in blood, I just hope it is someone else’s, but over-all she is looking good, and she wasn’t joking when she said she is good in combat, she’s clawing and biting non-stop, like an angry tornado of black fur.

I am satisfied to see that the shield is still holding, Derek is doing an awesome job. Lukas is also not far, still going strong, leading his soldiers and fighting at the same time.

I blast as many soldiers and mutants as I can, their numbers are going down fast, and I know this battle will soon be over, thank the Goddess, we are having the advantage.

I run to where Derek is, in the middle of a crowd of flying fur, sharp teeth and claws. I blast as many enemies as I can, although it is difficult to aim right, they are a twister of fast-moving limbs; until a low voice tickles my ear, “What are you doing here?”

I spin around astonished to see that Derek has managed to sneak up on me from behind, without me noticing him. How did he even see me in this chaos?

He raises and eyebrow, his lips set in a thin line. I know I said it before, but he looks so sexy when he does that, if I weren’t ghostly, I would have put my arms around his neck and kissed him until I ran out of breath.

Instead, I say awkwardly, “Hey, handsome, I was just helping killing here and there; you know that in this form I am in no danger, right?”

“But your sleeping body is, and they are after you specifically! Imagine if they get a whiff that you are hiding in the packhouse, they will all diverge there, and the people hiding there will all be in danger.”

I stare at him for a moment, his logic kind of makes sense, but why do I feel that he is tricking me again?

“Go back and protect the people in the packhouse, ok?” he adds for good measure, in his sweet but commanding tone.

I look at him for a long moment, when he raises both eyebrows inquiringly, I pout and cave in.

“Ok, but don’t think for a second that I am not aware that you are mind tricking me.”

He chuckles, and then adds through the mind-link in a sultry voice that makes my lower parts tingle in anticipation, “Be a good girl, and later you will get your reward.”

I know I have become completely red in the face, his satisfied smirk proof of that, and I decide it’s time to disappear, before I make an even worse fool of myself.

I wake up on the sofa, Rose and the Doctor are still sitting beside me, thinking I was asleep.

“Luna, you are awake. How are you feeling?” Rose immediately asks, fussing over me.

“I am feeling better,” I reply, even though I am not, the wound is still not healed, and I feel my powers are still weak.

“Would you like something to drink, or to eat?”

“No, thank you, you are very sweet, but with this tension, I don’t think I can stomach anything.”

Rose’s eyes suddenly fill up with tears, her bottom lip trembles, and she starts crying. Why is she crying? Is she scared?
